Chapter 13- Icarus and Daedalus

Two are more months before the event and we are excused on all of our classes. After joining, we will be promoted to Class B Mavens, but if we win, we will be promoted to Class A Mavens. That's an advantage for the two.

Headmistress Scarlet also added Heist to be part of the event, she said that his Gravity Magic will bring him victory if mastered.

Two months, we've got two months of  training.

"Hey Alice, Arthur, can you show me your weapon?" I asked.

"Oh sure, mine is just an ordinary Crusader's Sword" Arthur Showed.

"And here is mine, I can't say it's ordinary but it's not special either. This Arming Sword is the Replica of the Arming Sword our first Queen of our Kingdom used. That sword is called the Vorpal Sword." Alice said, she is surprisingly serious today.

"Let me see." I said, they hand me their swords. I studied that structure of the sword, though I already know the structure of an Arming and a Crusader's Sword. What I am inspecting is the prints in the sword, those prints will show me how they use the sword, their synchronization with the sword.

"Hey, can you Fire your strongest sword skill on this dummy?" I asked. I summoned two dummies.

"Okay sure thing." They said in chorus.

"Sword Skill: Crusader's Haven" that crusader's haven is summoning hundreds of Crusader's Sword then fires it at the target. That's basically a hundred-consecutive-hit-combo with an area of effect. But as I expected

"No damage? Not even a scratch?" Arthur asked.

"Let me show you how it's done." Alice said and got on her stance.

"Cheshire Cat!" She summoned her Cheshire Cat.

"Hey Shire, let's do the dance?" She said.

"Against who?" The cat asked, Alice pointed the Dummy.

"Seriously? The dance against a dummy?" The cat complained.

"Stop talking and let's just do it. Synchronized Sword Skill: Blazing Sword Dance of the Cheshire Cat." Now, Alice performed a 270 consecutive hit combo. Teleporting around that dummy then attack for how many times, it's fast and is also an area of effect attack, though the area affected is not as vast as Arthur's. That attack gave the dummy

"A scratch? Seriously? Just a scratch?" She complained, I looked at her.

"What happened to you?" I asked, she suddenly looked different.

"Oh this? This is what we call Merging. There are three stages of the Sacred Accessory. First is when you summon your Guardian or the Summoning Stage, next is when you borrow an ability from your Guardian or the Borrowing Stage, and last is when you merge with your Guardian or the Merging Stage. Merging stage makes you own the abilities of your Guardian." She explained I nodded.

"Let me borrow your sword Arthur." I asked, she lent me her sword.

"Sword Skill: Sword Haven." I casted. Sword Haven, like the Crusader, summons a lot of sword. But unlike crusader's haven that summons at one side, sword haven surrounds its target, making it inescapable, unless you're at mach one speed. I focused my sight at the target, then slashed Arthur's sword on the air downwards. All of the swords hit the dummy, ending up destroying it.

"How did you do that?." She asked. I just smiled and returned her sword.

"Now Alice, hand me your sword." I said, and like Arthur, she handed me her sword.

"Sword Skill: Moon Dance of the Growling Cat." A cat dance is indeed a good sword skill, teleportation makes it even better, and since I can control my mana to shift my position, it's no problem. Unlike Alice's dance, my dance is a long ranged dance, summoning crescent energy slashes towards the damage, although its combo is not as great as Alice's dance, it's damage is what that matters. It also ended up destroying the target dummy.

"Teach.me.that." Alice said, she's like not herself. I smiled.

"Okay, that's it for today. Prepare for our two-months training. As we have planned, for the first two weeks of training we will be at Alice's Home, at the White Kingdom then the rest of the two months will be at Jurem Empire." I said, they nodded. We then left the field.

I proceeded to the Maven Research Office. I need to ask something to Azure.

"Oh hey Azrael." Segnale greeted. I nodded.

"Is Azure in here?" I asked.

"Yep, I'm here. Why?" He asked.

"Can I talk to you for a second? I want to ask you about something."

"Sure thing." He said.

"I - err- want to talk to you in private." I said.

"Oh--kay?" He said, confused.

I lead the way towards the field.

"So what is it?" He asked.

"It's about summoning a Guardian from the Sacred Accessory. I don't know how, I thought maybe you could help me." I said.

"What makes you think that I have a sacred accessory?" He asked.

"Hmm Alice told me."

"Alice? How did you know her?"

"She's my teammate for the upcoming event."

"That makes sense. So what's your guardian?" He asked.

"Hmm, same as yours. A Phoenix." He looked shocked.

"You really are my brother." He whispered. Even though he whispered it really quietly I still heard it because of my enhanced senses.

"You're my what?" I asked.

"What do you mean? I didn't say anything."

"No! I heard you, you said that I really am your brother? What do you mean by that?" Is he that other son the gatekeeper mentioned? Is he really my brother?

"What? You heard that? I surely whispered it silently." He said, so now he's not denying it.

"Yeah. I've got enhanced senses." I said.

"That makes sense, there's no point denying it. Yes you are my brother. My soul brother, I mean I think of you as one, if you don't mind." .l

"Oh okay. I don't mind, brother haha" I jokingly emphasized the brother

"So, about your guardian. I might be able to help." He then touched his Sacred Accessory. A necklace the same as mine but darker. If mine is light gold his is dark gold.

"Phoenix Guarding the North, with your flame of protection, I hereby ask for your Presence, Daedalus." He chanted, the Necklace the glowed and fire came burning.

"You called Azure?" A deep voice coming from the Flames appeared, then a bird, the same as before appeared. The difference is that the flames are darker, reddish yellow unlike that Phoenix in the library that is Orangish yellow.

"My brother here said that his guardian is also a Phoenix, can you help him out?" Azure casually said. Brother? I don't know why but it sounds so good.

"Are you certain?" Daedalus asked, Azure nodded. "Can you show me your Sacred Accessory Azure's Brother?" I nodded, then lifted my hand with the Necklace on it. Daedalus touched the Necklace using its beak. My necklace also glowed the same as what happened to Azure's. Flames came burning down.

"You called my Guardian?" That familiar voice appeared. Then the orangish yellow flames followed.

"Icarus?" Daedalus asked. Oh yes, the Phoenix mentioned that he is Icarus.

"Dad?" Dad? Seriously?

"It's you! Who would've thought that you will be under my guardian's brother's care." Daedalus exclaimed. "Wait, haven't you synthesized with your guardian yet?"

"No not yet, I don't think he's ready." Icarus said. "He's only 18, he might as well be a Class C Maven, he must be at least a Class S Maven to handle me." There's a requirement like that?

"Oh yes I forgot your rank." So even Sacred Accessories have Rank.

"Yes we have, I'm a Diamond Legendary rank, just a little push then I'll be a Bronze Mythical Rank." Icarus said, as if he read my mind.

"But why can I summon you already?" Azure asked Daedalus.

"I'm a Gold Legendary Rank. The requirement to summon a Gold Legendary is a maven at Least Rank A, and you are Rank A." Daedalus explained.

"Oh, that's why. But Azrael is a Sage, he is a Rank S." Azure replied.

"Are you sure? That young? A Rank S?" Daedalus asked. "Identify his Rank Icarus."

"Okay." Icarus replied. Icarus then burned me with his flames, but it didn't hurt me at all.

"He's right, he's a Rank S, A mythical Rank that is. He's almost at Rank SS. He's a five star rank S Maven, a doorstep away from rank SS." Icarus said.

"You found yourself an amazing owner Icarus. Now go synthesize with him." Daedalus said. Icarus then burned me to the point that it knocked me out.

When I woke up, I'm already at a different place. I saw a scroll beneath me. I opened it.

"Guardian, you must free your Guardian Spirit at his Castle to completely synthesize with him. The castle has a burning flame on top of it, that's where you'll find Icarus" the scroll said.

I scanned the area, this place does not have any sign of humans on it. The structures are beautifully made, and are obviously fire proof. Flame butterflies are flying around, and the Castle was just right in front of me.  The horizon shares the same color as the flame of Icarus and Daedalus.

I rushed my way towards the castle, the flame butterflies followed me. On my way to the castle's entrance is a Golem, a burning Golem.

"You must protect the butterflies ." A voice whispered.

Protect the butterflies it is.

"Protector of the sea, Nymph." I summoned a Water Spirit, an elemental Spirit.

"Protector of the wind, Sylph." I then summoned a Wind Spirit, another elemental spirit.

"Nymph, cover that Golem with your water." Elemental spirits are small and quiet beings, people often refer them as fairies. Even though their size are small, their power are certainly not. The golem's fire was burned out.

"Sylph, blow that Golem with a chilling breeze." The Golem slowly freezes.

"Seal of the fire: fire ball." I fired a fireball at the frozen fire golem. If I did it before it was frozen, it would only absorb my fire, that's why freezing it is a great advantage. And since my Ice Magic is not enough for that creature, I needed to call for help with the Elemental Spirits.

The castle's gate opened. I rushed towards the Castle's door. On the base of the stairway, a pack of fire hounds awaits. These fire hounds are fast, and freezing them won't help.

"Nymph, cover the floor with water. Sylph, blow some Chilling Breeze on the floor." I commanded. With that, The Fire Hounds will be slowed down, which will help since the Spell that I'll cast will take time to chant.

"Seal of the wind that controls the elements within. Seal of the wind that controls the wind without. Hear my call and answer my demand. No air zone." I casted, no air zone will make the zone where the targets are a zone with no air, obviously. It makes the enemy unable to breath, thus killing them.

The fire hounds are no exception. The no air zone killed them after a minute. The fire butterflies then guided the way upstairs.

On the base of the stairways on the second floor is a fire gargoyle. The spirit's have no use this time.

"Summon, crossbow. Add element, water." I summoned. The fire gargoyle are moving around randomly, which makes it hard to target. The butterflies then came flying in my bow, making my hand move on its own. I don't know how but my finger pulled the trigger, that surprisingly hit the gargoyle, and since there's a water element, that made it perished.

The third floor is where we found Icarus.

"You made it here Human. Now for your last trial, you must take three attack from me without falling down." Icarus said.

"Defense : x48 , Still: x48 , Hold : x48, Numb : x48" I enhanced.

"Here I go." Icarus charged a fireball on  his claws. It grows bigger and bigger and bigger. Icarus back flipped throwing the fireball on me. The fireball burned my top clothes.

"Fire Resistance: x48" I enhanced.

"That was a good one, now try this." Icarus said. He then charged the same gigantic fireball but this time on his wings. He flapped his wings throwing the fireball on me. Because of my Enhancement, I didn't get burned.

"You're tough. Now for the last one." He then charged three gigantic fireballs. He back flipped and flapped his wings throwing the fireballs on me. But that too didn't burn me.

"Congratulations Azrael Gideon. I know recognize you as my guardian." He said, the a light flashed, and suddenly we are back in the field.

"You're back. It took you four hours though." Daedalus said.

"Well, four hours is short compared to my 8 hours. By the way, what happened to your top brother?" Azure asked.

"Well, some things happened in the final trial." I replied.

"Why? Didn't you just need to break Icarus' defense?" He asked.

"No. He didn't." Icarus replied.

"I needed to defend myself just to pass the trial." I said.

"It's different from mine? Why?" Azure asked.

"Icarus is the Phoenix of Offense while I am the Phoenix of Defense, that's why your trials are different even though we are both Phoenixes." Daedalus explained.

"Oh well, all that matters is you can now summon your guardian. Right, brother?" Azure said.

"Yes... Brother." I smiled.
