CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT

The only voices I heard were dad and mom's whimpering voice.

What triggered all of these emotions this morning?

"Morning" I greeted everyone in the room softly, watching mom, dad and Logan, being the only occupants in the room all lifting their heads and turning their eyes towards the doorway where I stood, leaning.

Mom was the first to recover, "sweetheart" mom smiles through tears, red puffy eyes and nose.

Smiling nervously, I moved to join them at the table, but Logan was already standing up and moving towards me.

"We'll have breakfast on the patio outside our room." Logan says, grabbing my elbows to usher me out of the kitchen.

My eyes met mom's and a fresh batch of tears were already forming as she looks to dad then to the back of Logan's head, helplessly.

Shaking my head, I held Logan's wrist, "no, let's have breakfast here, like normal." I told him softly, unwilling to antagonize him but also unwilling to leave the only woman other than my grams, who has shown me a mother's love, while she seems to be hurting.

"Jamie!" Logan pushed me slightly backwards, a tinge of anger and impatience evident in the tone of his voice.

"Logan!" I glared at him now, because as much as I love and respect him, I will not be bullied by him.

Lifting his hands angrily in surrender, "fine, have your way," he sneers, storming off through the front door, while his mother called him back and his father angrily, went after him.

I stare at Logan's retreating back wishing I had gone with him, but I cannot take side and turn against his mother, in spite of their difference.

"I'm sorry about that," mom said, tears running down her cheeks from where she still sat at the kitchen table.

Having no idea what the problem was between Logan and his parents, I just nod and smiled, but I was anxious and afraid.

I walked towards the stove and turned the water on to make a cup of chocolate tea, but mom was beside me, placing an arm around my waist.

"Please have a seat, let me prepare something for you, at least that will help keep my mind occupy." Mom says, but I am tired of being waited on hand and foot so I turned her around and showed her to the chair she was sitting on.

"Let me, please" I insisted. "Did Logan or dad have breakfast yet?" I asked, straining my eyes through the window for a glimpse of Logan or Dad, but they were not to the side of the building.

"Jamie" Mom started and I chuckle at her.

"Mom" I mimicked her tone, turning to the refrigerator and started taking out eggs, bacon cheese and all the vegetables I could find and make one of my grams special omelettes.

I worked in silence concentrating on the task that I was doing while mom also remained quiet in her own space.

I only made breakfast for mom and I having everything prepared for dad and Logan when they returned, which I hope is soon.

Pulling some toast out of the toaster, I filled two plates and although mom didn't seem hungry and even I lost my appitie, I knew I had to force myself to have my breakfast and vitamins.

Mom and I were sitting quietly having our breakfast when dad returned, alone.

The disappointment of not seeing Logan must have shown, because mom reached across the table and covered my hand affectionately.

"Where's Logan?" Mom asked dad, her voice quivering and her hand tightens over mines.

Shaking his head, dad looks at me cautiously.

"Where's Logan?" I repeated mom's question and dad just shook his head sadly.

Taking a deep breath, dad sits down and covers his face with his hands.

Sighing he uncovers his face and turns to mom, "have you told her?" He asks frowning and mom shook her head silently.

"Tell me what?" I asked worried now and thankful that I got most of my breakfast down.

Mom turned to me with a sad smile and a new batch of tears.

I'm suddenly afraid, "where's Logan?" I asked dad again, "where did he go?" I felt myself ready to have a panic attack out of fear and I have no idea what is going on.

Still dad remained silent and mom flung an arm sweeping everything in front of her off the table in anger.

Standing up, "he went to your father didn't he?" Mom shouted at dad, but still dad remained silent.

What makes Logan going to his grandfather so different from the other times when he was angry?

"Didn't he?" Mom shouted louder than I have ever heard and I expect to see the kitchen full right away.

I stood up and hugged mom, "it's okay, I sent the guys after him, he'll come back, just give him some time to deal with it." dad was saying, hugging mom, trying to console her.

"Time, give him time?" Mom screamed at dad and it scared me. For the first time I wished I didn't enter the kitchen.

"Why would Logan go to his grandfather?" I asked softly, so soft I was sure that the only person who heard my voice was me.

Mom and dad turn to stare at me with a defeated look.

"Did Logan leave me?" I asked instead since no one was saying why he left.

"No sweetheart, he didn't leave you, he left us, he left me." Mom says hugging me to her bosom.

"Then why are you worried?" I asked again, "if he is coming back, why are you worried?" I persisted and dad came and sat beside me.

"Logan's so angry with us, he may not return right away, but the longer he stays away, the more he will allow his grandfather to draw him in" dad says, but it doesn't make sense.

Frowning, I turned to dad, "it doesn't make sense.
