Four days later....
Another general meeting was held but this time something opposite to the first occurred. At first the whole department thought it was only held in honor of team 2 for solving the mystery behind the shadow assassin. But something different was decided and Sampson... Sampson didn't like it...
Mr Charles sat beside director Kane and laughed gnashing his teeth at every little joke. He was jovial but never lacked seriousness.
There were whispers and chattering as they exchange pleasantries while congratulating team 2 on their shocking success. They shot grato dead on the spot....
You would think it was a congratulation party even, since everyone seemed less serious minded.....
Director Kane cleared his throat and all eyes fell on him. Just what he wanted, now it's time to get things said....
"Another history has been recorded yet again. We're able to stand out and protect our nation due to these wonderful officers. Let's raise our flutes for a toast." He stated with smiles as he glanced from one person to another.
The officers laughed and cheered as he spoke. That was just him. A wonderful boss who never ceases to appreciate something good.
"Also, I'd use this opportunity to say that the homicide case handled by investigation team 3 has been transferred. Team 2 would do a better job..." He spoke his eyes raised in a way as he tried observing their reaction.
He knew many would object but it wasn't their decision to make. It was his and he's just gonna inform them.
Sir Charles lost his smile. He was the head of the investigation department and yet the director failed to pre inform him. Sampson and his team seemed confused and the expression on their faces changed.
"But sir.." Charles objected.
"No buts. You should know better. This is for the safety of our country. Team 2 are very competent and they know the job well. Just 2 months and they were able to crack the puzzle of the shadow assassin, something that has been difficult for the past 7 years..."
Others nodded in unison. He was right.
"Yet, Sampson and his team are doing just fine. They are beginners and this is there first real case. It's not right to.." Charles spoke again trying to convince him.
Sampson's hands formed fists and he tried to hide his anger. Is this all I get for working hard ???
"Do you think it's for my benefit? Remember the faster the case is solved the safer the people. Just four days ago another body was found. I don't want anymore deaths." He concluded.
"I'm sure they can do this. Let's give them time.." another officer spoke up.
Kane looked at him. "Time we do not have. It's been like a month already and there's nothing.... absolutely nothing to show for it. Is that how we would protect the nation? Investigation team 3 are just beginners. When they get more experience they would do better." He shouted slamming his hands on the desk.
Everyone was startled. Sampson sighed, eyeing the director. He was good at looking down on people....
"How do you expect them to do better if we can't let them handle their own case?" Charles rebuked.
"They don't even know the basics...if they should get better, it's only by continuing staying as backups. That way they would be more experienced..." Another officer contributed.
Team 2 just stayed mute. While team 3 felt humiliated watching their superiors decide their fate.
"It's been decided. Team 2 should handle the case now while team 3 return as backups." He declared as he sipped his wine.
"How long are we gonna act like we aren't visible?" Sampson suddenly asked.
All eyes fell on him.
"Pardon?" Director Kane looked at him, his brows raised.
"How long are we gonna be backups?" He asked again.
Sir Charles signaled him to keep quiet but he wasn't listening. He was already upset.
Director Kane smirked. "A year"
"What? A year?" Sampson asked raking his hair angrily.
Everyone looked at him again. His anger was unnecessary as director Kane was stating facts. Team 3 were just recruited earlier this year and being backups wasn't a bad idea. They have to know the basics... But I guess, all these weren't important for one so desperate for a promotion...
"A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Success doesn't come overnight" director Kane reminded him while smiling.
Sampson took his seat shamefully. He watched his teammates and glared in disbelief. They seemed just fine with what's going on.
Bunch of idiots - he thought.
Then he observed team 2. Why must it be them? But then again team 1 were one a mission already. And his team were just filled with annoying people....
Nathan and his friends were happy. Claire and scout glanced at one another holding hands tightly. Another adventure was about to begin...yes team 2 defined solving a case as going on an adventure, to discover something different while developing their strength.
Solving cases brought them closer that's why they are able to stand out in their department.
"Sampson would hand over details of the case" sir Charles told them, Particularly Nathan who nodded in return.
Sampson hissed. He was never acknowledged..but then he wasn't going to let go easily...this was his case and he would solve it no matter what. To show them he isn't a loser...and get that Fucking promotion too....
He quietly excused himself and the meeting continued like there was never an argument....
What's your opinion on the case transfer? Did director Kane make a wise choice? Or a mistake?
