It was the year 2169. The apocalypse finally arrived. Global warming, zombies, nuclear war, all at once. Just one tipping point and the world itself would crumble. Then, Nova Corp, a hegemon of the corporate world, seemingly convinced the global super powers into doing the impossible: Taking everyone online. And they did. Everyone, poor or rich, was taken into the VRMMORPG: World Online. A fantasy world where anything was possible. A utopia, unlike everything that the real world was. But what was supposed to become a method of existence, became a battleground for supremacy. Companies, world powers, and the rich battled to become the greatest. The disparity between the poor and the rich grew. There was no justice in this world. It took Darwin's words further than any other. Jake, as poor as one could get, was caught in the rift, torn apart by the unfair system. He was a dog of the Shadow King Guild, and even though he was absolutely loyal, in the end, the guild cut him off. He was without an anchor and left in the cruel world. He knew no Utopia like the others. But one day, when he opened his eyes, nothing was the same anymore. Opening his eyes, he found himself ten years in the past. He was done being the henchman now. He was not going to let himself be used anymore. Now, it was time for him to fight back. So what if the strongest were going to stand in his way? He was going to be unstoppable. Within just a day, Bright Horizon was the talk of the town. There was not a player that didn't know about it.
A guild that had its own shop in the city? No one could fathom the roots of such a guild. And the fact that it was a closed guild made it even more mysterious.
Many were just waiting for the eventual moment when the guild would open up to take in new members. Everyone wanted to get in on the newest guild which showed some promise.
If the guild really blew up, then they would all share the success and would be set for life.
Jake was in a room at the top of his building, silently sipping tea, looking through the tinted windows.
The blacksmiths were barely restocking the shelves, but how much could they work? He caved in and let more and more blacksmiths join, but on a different contract.
He couldn't give them any money upfront, but he could pay them at the end of the week, and that was what he promised them.
And now, with orders being fulfilled, as well as people buying up the items that filled the lower floor, Jake was probably the richest player in all of Diffast.
But now was time for him to truly take control of this city. And for him to do that, he needed members in his guild. He didn't think of some utopia where he could fill his guild with only the best players.
He needed the grunt work to be done. A guild made money by raiding, grinding, and excavating. There were many dungeons, quests, and party trails that only multiple men could try and be a part of.
And for that, he needed numbers. Not a lot of guilds even started paying their members already. Instead, they were paying the members with a fraction of the hauls they received.
Jake wanted to start off by paying the members. If word got around that a guild was paying its members for just being a part of the guild, then even the best players in other cities and kingdoms would consider coming to Diffast.
He opened the forums and started putting out the message.
[Bright Horizon Guild Registration: 100 silvers per month guaranteed salary. Registrations and trial opens in ten hours]
This message popped up in every forum that existed. Every World Online user who was on these forums glanced at it. While many dismissed it at first, thinking that someone was probably scamming everyone else, the users from Diffast looked at this and were roaring with excitement.
Comments were piling up on the posts telling the whole world about the mysterious guild that seemed to have the support of the Loviel Empire.
Many were intrigued, and more people started entering the shop itself. This was a good advertisement for Jake's shop as well.
Ping!
"Hey man, I am done with my Class Quest. I completed it!" a message popped up in the friends' tab.
Jake knew who it was instantly. After all, it hadn't been long since he entered the game, and he only had one friend.
"Come to the new shop that opened. Bright Horizon. I'll meet you there." Jake texted back.
He then stood up and straightened his clothes. Looking at the time, he walked back down.
Myriad Arrows took much less time than Jake took to complete the quest. While Jake took about two whole days, all Myriad Arrows took was a few hours. This was the simple difference between an Epic Class and a legendary class.
Sure, the class that should have been Jake's was supposed to be an Epic Class, but the difficulty of doing ten thousand strikes was not a lot. It was just a matter of perseverance.
He reached the first floor, which was completely crowded. Understanding that there was absolutely no way that he could find Myriad Arrows in this mess, he stepped out of the shop to get some fresh air as well.
The outside was also crowded, but not as much as the inside. There were people waiting for the rush to clear, while others were just here to look at the show.
"Shadow King! I'm over here!" Jake heard a voice from a distance away.
He looked at the source and found a man waving his hand around trying to attract his attention.
Nodding, he beckoned Myriad Arrows to separate from the crowd and get someplace else. They walked to a less crowded area, where Myriad Arrows and he could finally talk.
"So then, you are probably a ranker now, with an Epic Class. I don't think that there are many Epic Classes in the game at all right now." Jake said.
"I have to thank you. I would not have found the Epic Class if it weren't for you." Myriad Arrows was not at all haughty. He knew the true reason that he was at this stage.
"So then, I will offer you the golden opportunity. Will you join my guild?" Jake asked.
"I know I am in debt to you. I really am. I will definitely join your guild, but I think that you should wait for a while. That shop that we just left, the one that belongs to Bright Horizon, it will not let any new guild survive.
Every single player wants to become a part of that guild. I don't think that you should make the guild right now. You should wait for that popularity to diminish." Myriad Arrows said with a worried face.
"Pffft!" Jake almost laughed out.
"To think that you were so concerned about me. I really made the right decision. Come then. Join my guild. After all, my guild IS Bright Horizon."
Myriad Arrows' face slowly turned from that of concern to that of shock.
"You are the guild leader of Bright Horizon?!!"
