In the Middle of Carnage

Venator opened his eyes, the morning sun struck the top of his head while he got up.

All around him, a massacre of burned bodies scattered around the field, a powerful scent of burnt flesh lingered heavily in the air. The horses and their riders stayed with the dead mages, unmoved.

He stretched widely, standing above the massacre hundreds laying on the burned field, their armor charred while the bodies inside were burned heavily.

"Guess I did pass out, but it looked to be enough..." He looked at what he had done. Successfully defending himself against an entire army.

"Wonder if that's the entire army." He thought to himself.

He walked forward, passing by bodies and the destruction he had caused before passing out. He felt the new energy inside him, feeling deeply refreshed after his slumber.

The land was calm though, destroyed but calm and silent.

On the walk, he found the burned behemoth. Now charred and blackened by fire, standing, crumbling. There were no living soldiers in sight, only corpses of mage and soldier alike.

Upon reaching it, he saw what the engine truly was.

He glazed his hand on a charred piece of the broken behemoth.

"Did I? Did I just destroy a ram?" He asked himself, surprised.

"Guess that's a second to what I did."

A green aura spawned in his hand, slowly he started healing his wounds, using the newly regained energy from resting.

A line of destroyed wagons stood behind the ram, the entire place seemed unmoved.

"Should I return to the god now?" He asked himself.

As he stared off at the line of carts, an orb of flame struck him in the back, sending him to the ground. He turned his head around quickly.

A group of hooded figures stood on the field of corpses and charred grass, staring at Venator.

"More? How many does the enemy have!?" He exclaimed in frustration.

The pain his back slowly dissipated, quickly healing up while he unsheathed his sword.

"Heard you killed mages of other armies, did you destroy this convoy as well?" A mage at the front mocked.

"Had to ditch the army to see if you were still here. Your corpse would be a great trophy for us." Venator looked back with a stoic face.

Slowly, distant footsteps from both directions echoed out, becoming louder by the second.

From the left and right, soldiers clad in metal armor marched out, stopping upon seeing one another. One bearing Bellunamien's flag while the other bore their own.

"I gotta get out of here, but I do need to help that god's army." He eyed the mages.

In a second, he ran forward. Orbs of flame struck the ground under him, few barely grazing while he ran forward, stepping side to side as he dodged.

Upon getting closer, before they could start falling back, he drove his blade into one of the mages.

The remaining mages fell back to their army, standing in front, dismounting their horses while their hands burned on.

Venator sighed in annoyance, "Need to kill those mages." He looked back at Bellunamien's army, their armor was bulkier in appearance, encompassing their entire body, from plates to riveted parts of metal, at the front each soldier carried long pikes, far taller than them. Cavalry stood on the sides of both armies, similarly armored with their footmen counterparts.

On the enemy's side, their soldiers merely had thin sheets and plates of metal, the rest sealed in leather covering, carrying swords with them along with round shields. Far less armored than the dead soldiers.

"Attacking that army head on would definitely result in death for me." He thought to himself.

"They do look weaker though, fire can dispatch them quickly. Just hope the mages don't get to me.

While he thought, magic users emerged from the packed footmen on the front. An assortment of ice and fire users stood.

From Bellunamien's army, lines of lightly armored soldiers, donning chainmail and leather carried bows.

"Perhaps flanking is a better solution, or else I would be squished against two armies that would most likely want me dead."

He grabbed on the lead of the horse, moving it backwards while mages and archers stood prepared to attack.

He began running away, the two armies continued staring each other down, seemingly ignoring Venator's presence.

He moved past the destroyed line of wagons and ram.

The mages slung orbs of flame towards the standing soldiers.

In quick response, the shields turned to face forward, creating a wall of metal in front of them.

the orbs slammed into the shields, disappearing into nothingness while the shield wall still stood.

Streaks of fire darted across the field, their size shrinking with each second. the fire crashed into the wall, causing it to shake before it held back down. The fire continued slamming into them.

A deep bellow sounded out from a horn, in seconds, the soldiers began charging, moving around the mages as they kept on their attack.

On the corpse field, from Bellunamien's army, volleys of arrows were loosened from behind.

The volleys struck the field, soldiers began falling, mages started forming walls of ice above their fellow warriors, blocking the arrows.

The cavalry began departing, soldiers started forming shield walls on the remaining sides, forming a square of metal against their adversary.

Venator began moving towards the horde, now slamming into the shield wall as they began pushing. The wall stood firm and tight, through small slits spears shot out, piercing through the enemy.

The cavalry began crashing through the flowing horde, rapidly warriors began falling while horse riders were slaughtered in the charge. From fire to blade.

A sword and fire in hand, Venator charged behind the cavalry. Fire shot from his hand, creating a large streak, consuming warriors in front of him. The cavalry began splitting off, continuing to push through more soldiers while the mages and warriors fought on.

The fire tore through the disorganized ranks. Creating a pathway for Venator to run through.

In the midst of combat, an orb slammed into his face, sending Venator off the horse while it continued running through. He rolled on the ground before coming to a halt.

Hastily a dome began forming above as his hand glowed blue. Soldiers rushed the newly formed dome, quickly surrounding it.

Venator was now trapped.
