Kier squatted to pet Cinna between her ears. The cat closed her eyes and purred. Then she looked up at Kier with a gleeful dreaminess. "See ya," she said.

Kier uttered some arcane words and Cinna was gone. He stood to find Ina looking at him quite intently.

"Athyn?" she asked.

"Oh, you're gonna hate her," said Kier as he nodded rapidly. "I'm betting you're going to hate her. I'm hoping you'll hate her. I'm actually crossing my fingers with anticipation that you will hate her."

Ina tried to make sense of Kier's wishes for a few seconds. She raised one of her eyebrows in confusion. "Why? Who's Athyn?"

As he stood, the Mage said, "She is what would commonly be referred to as an ex-girlfriend."
