"Mina, you have a Femage to go home to. And I know she's about as good as an unfried potato stick, but you are her Familiar, and she needs you."
"I was going to be your Familiar."
Kier closed his eyes and sighed. "Do you remember when she met you? I saw that once in her dreams. Remember how she jumped 'cause she was so happy?"
Mina looked down, ashamed.
"There's a reason the strands of Magic chose you for her and her for you. And I want you to make sure of something, at least until I get there."
"Keep her away from him?"
"Yes." Kier lifted Mina's beak gently so she'd look at him in the eyes. "Tell her to shun that idiot like she would Albiel's lightning."
