Badump….. Badump.
The hurried sound of my heart banging against my chest at the question add to the rising tension. "Do you have a death wish?"
A death wish….. No….. But I saw it in his eyes, a flash in his eyes that said he was capable of doing things I would fear to me.
"Why do you and your brother like threatening people?" I fired back, disregarding the tightening of his fingers on my chin.
To my surprise he sighed. "You're like a mouse witch, I once had a mouse like that."
Had a mouse. Past tense then.
I quickly responded to his strange reply. "What happened to the mouse?"
His eyes flickered away from my eyes for a second before returning back, ever blank like before. "It was a dumb little mouse."
"That's not very nice." I blurted out.
He didn't say anything for a while, simply looking at my face. "So you do have a death wish?" He asked.
My eyes found his eyes again. The same kind of oppressive force bounced from them, slamming against me aggressively.
My eyelashes fluttered. "I'll tell you something that I told your brother," My voice was so quiet it felt like we were sharing a secret. "Let me go."
He didn't let go. Eyes that were staring at mine welled with a suppressive spirit that made me bite my tongue.
He and his brother threatened people so casually I could tell they were serious about their threats. If this boy decided to harm me right here and now I only had my magic to protect me.
He wasn't even human, and I didn't know the limits of his capabilities, but I knew mine. My magic wasn't very reliable.
While I pondered my options his fingers suddenly released me. The strangest thing that happened was he simply went back to his piano, fingers pressing down on the piano keys.
I finally found it in me to swallow as he let me go. The suppressive feeling left me, and I was feeling light as a feather at the moment.
I didn't even think much of it before walking away from him, towards the door, but when my hand clasped the doorknob I heard…..
"The little mice kept bothering the cat till the cat ate it, unfortunately." His fingers were playing away on the piano key, while he swayed his body.
His bottled green eyes ascended to look at me. "Sad, really." Was all he said before carrying his eyes back to the piano.
I frowned, my heart pounded beyond mortal nature when I opened the door to leave the room.
Shuddering when I left the room I didn't expect my body to collide with someone else.
"Ow," I moaned at our bodies jamming each other.
My eyes rose up to see the face of the taller person. It was a man, a tall black skinned man. The man would be about 6'8 or maybe a little bit more, I didn't know but he absolutely towered me. He had a strong and muscular physique, a shining bald head, a trail of beard from the side of his face, perfectly trimmed on his chin, peppered with little grey hair.
He had deep dark eyebrows with a set of familiar green eyes. They were stormy, like the reflection of a raging sea, speaking so much, too much for others to even comprehend. The blankness at the top of those eyes was like a bottle that attempted to hold the storm in those eyes but it failed woofly.
This man had bottled green eyes, a pair of eyes I had considered peculiar before.
He was wearing a printed pure white button up long sleeve which had a tight velvety looking black band around the arm, and a necktie knotted to perfection with a red pin that plastered the necktie to his chest. He wore black trousers that were decent but still managed to annunciate his firm muscles. Sleek stainless black shoes as pristine as the rest of his attire. A golden watch with the inscription 'Rolex', an assortment of even colored rings spicing his fingers.
He had a briefcase on one hand, and a suit jacket with a coffee cup on the other.
Unable to evade the luxurious and pleasing cologne that he exuded I marked that this man whoever he was was deadass royalty through and through.
I swept a lock of my hair from my face behind my ear, before realizing how weird that looked. I cleared my throat. "Sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going."
His familiar bottled green eyes had long descended down on me. "It's completely fine, are you okay?" His voice carried a very low baritone.
Anyone else wouldn't have caught it but I registered the casualness of the words. Like a monologue.
It surprised me for a moment, but I quickly woke up from my surprise. I chuckled drily. "Ah, I'm fine, just in a hurry!" My voice squeaked up a bit, feeling slightly lowly in this man's presence.
Ah….. The cons of being a loser.
Those midnight dark eyebrows pulled together into a tender furrow. I blinked for a moment, my observant mind telling me there was a familiarity in his actions.
"Okay, is there somewhere you are in such a hurry to Miss….?" He trailed off, eyes asking the question his lips didn't.
I popped him a smile. "Psyche…. Psyche Charming…. And yeah, I was just headed to the canteen."
He tilted his head over a little. "Miss Charming you are aware that it is currently 7:35, as in time for classes, breakfast period is over?"
My smile dropped. "What's with the know it all tone," my own tone turned their usual snarky pitch.
He gave me a bored expression. "You are Persephone Charming, newcomer 006, and right now you have Rules and Order, if I enter that class before you, I will send you to detention."
He began walking away, going forward. I was stunned…. Did he…. A teacher?
I ushered myself forward, leaving my dumbfounded state, and struggled to make my short legs match up to his that made simple strides look like giant leaps.
"Sir! Sir! Sir…. Uh?" It was my turn to trail off, unaware of his name.
He didn't turn when he answered. "Call me Mr. Bode."
I nodded. "Ah Mr. Bode is a teacher here?" I battled with my neck to manage to catch his face as I struggled with my speed.
As I was caught in a war between my body anatomy and making it to class on time I caught the green eyes of Mr. Bode on my feet.
"You're not in front of me Miss Charming, why are you not in front of me?" He asked, the words coming out as if it was common courtesy.
Seriously, how did he make every word so…. Empty?
Hot sweat had begun to latch onto my back. Especially when he reached the door of a room before me. I think I was running now.
He had already opened the door when I neared there. He said nothing, just standing by the door with it open, and him staring from his watch to my face.
I finally reached him. He said. "Get in, student."
I wanted to respond but one of his eyebrows arched. Right, just shut up and get in. Goodness this school was brimming with authoritative figures.
"Good morning Mr. Bode," Everyone echoed the moment he entered the class after I did.
Look who was obedient now. Around the other teachers I had never seen them bother to greet one.
"Miss Charming," Mr. Bode the teacher called out to me.
I snapped my neck to him but his green eyes were looking down at his book which he was arranging on the white table.
"Seat right there next to that gentleman " He said, his index finger pointing at a sleeping figure, nearing the backroll of the classroom.
Actually it was only a roll to the backroll. Where he pointed out was an empty seat in front of a figure with dark red hair lying face down on the table. Beside that was a girl I recognized.
Stoner. Her blue eyes brightened when she saw me. She waved a little, I waved back, walking to my seat. As I reached the seat I turned to Mr. Bode.
"Right here, sir?" I asked
He nodded, selecting a book from the other books he arranged on the table. "Yes right in front of Mr. Caspian Crescent."
I had already made myself comfortable and sat gallantly down on the seat when Mr. Bode said those words. My body stiffened instantly.
I threw my head back from over my shoulder to see the red headed sleeping person behind me.
"And Caspian, please break from your character setting and actually be awake during class for once would you?" Mr. Bode finally looked up, staring at behind me with a hard look on his face.
I removed my eyes from Mr. Bode, completely turning into stone when the person behind me caught my eyes with his red ones.
It really was Caspian Crescent. But his eyes didn't stay at me for too long, no he transferred them, fortunately, to Mr. Bode. His firm lips began to lift, curling into a hair-raising smirk.
"Sorry, Mr. B, absolutely won't happen again." He was looking directly into Mr. Bode's bottled green eyes.
Mr. Bode spoke. "See to it." Then he turned away, turning to his white board. "Welcome back to Rules and Order class, student." He calmly said, while writing on the chalkboard with a chalk.
"Today we will be speaking on hierarchy, precisely leaders of the hierarchy chain, to which we have two types of leaders, one being a type you students might be familiar with…..
A demagogue." Damn his eyes wholeheartedly swallowed Caspian's eyes when he said those words.
Demagogue.
Caspian said nothing, keeping up with his smirk as he leaned back on his chair. I thought this might be easier than expected, Caspian didn't really know me so it wouldn't be a bother to finish this class effortlessly but…..
That was when I felt a leg kick mine.
