The Cold Truth

It was a long healing process, to get rid of the injuries the strange man of Ice had given me. I was sore and breathing was difficult all year, and I couldn't play soft ball because moving hut to much. Everything I loved doing was to risky with broken ribs, and deep puncture wounds still healing. All because I thought I could take on a much older and more experienced magic user.

'He was probably a witch.' I sighed running a brush thru my thick- and now too long- hair. 'Aunt Margret always warned me not to fight them head on, that they were less than human. I should have known, they're trouble.'

Shaking my head I placed my brush on the desk. That wasn't true, they had some good people. The bus lady was a witch who used her abilities to prevent the bus money from being stolen, and the grocer had coiling powers and could keep the fruit fresh. I knew they were not all evil, but I also knew all the bad they could do. All the dangers that they poses ed as innately darker beings.

'I don't trust them, that may be mean but I cant.' I vowed walking into the twins room. ' They don't know any better yet, so I have to fear for them. I have to fear what can hurt them as well.'

With a new found determination I headed out of the room and down the hall, pausing at a loud crack from the bottom of the stairs. Looking between the rails, I saw Aunt Margret and Mom glaring daggers at each other, Mom's hand slowly falling to her side.

"I will mot have you disrespecting my children like this. There lineage is of no concern to you!" Mom hissed, crossing her arms with a cold glare. "What they are dose not mater either."

"you weer disloyal to your mate, and you had ill bread children with an elf." Margret growled, shaking her head. "Elvols, disgusting creatures. They shouldn't even be allowed to exist. Cross breading, it never ends well. They might as well be put down or sent to an adoption agent."

"It's old schooled paranoid people like you that shouldn't be walking around. You spread your fear and hatred to everyone you can, you have Don against witches and there children. All magical bad people are always witches to him, and I have to re-teach him that isn't true." Mom hissed, an icy tone in her voice. "Sure Charlie and Bernard are Elvols, and that can lead to issues. But I don't care. They are my children, and they will be healthy and fine. They are not being put up for adoption or put down, now get out of my house before I call the cops."

Dashing back to my room I slammed the door- a little to forcefully- and clicked the lock before turning on my laptop, and pulling open Facebook.

'Guy's I kneed advice. I'm not supposed to be on but I need to talk.' I typed, sending the message quickly to the group chat. Luckily I was not the only one on, and it seemed I could get a bit of help.

'What is it Don? Did you lose a bet with your baby brother?' Susan teased, message sending a chain of faces with there tongs out.

'No, my brothers aren't my brothers. not really. Susan what are Elvols?' I asked, biting my lip as I waited for her response. I knew Mom would be up soon, and that she had a key. I didn't have too much time and Susan seemed to be draining all of it.

'Well, it says here that Elvols are the offspring of an Elf- most commonly magical , or winter- and a lycanmorph. They can develop extra powers that not many others can, but it commonly comes at the cost of medical issues, and targets on there backs for being half-bread. They rate almost as high as second tear withes to fourth tier Magi-wolf. Like the later, not many exist due to the fact that lots of older families refuse to let them intermingle.' Susan responded as the door swung open. Time was up, and Mom was quiet. Too quiet.

'I have to go. Thank you Susan.' Longing off I turned to face Mom, shocked when she simply cupped my cheek in her hand. Locking eyes with her momentarily, I noticed a deep disappointment, and sadness in her eyes.

"Don, perhaps we should talk." She whispered nodding to my bed. "This really was not how I wanted you to find out about your brothers."

"Whatever." I sighed quietly, shuffling over and laying towards the wall. She had gone behind Dad's back, I didn't care why or what came of it. I was just upset that she had hurt him, more so by bringing them home.

'Dad was happy about them.' I tried to reassure myself, it wasn't working. I knew it wouldn't, it was just too much to think about. Was Dad upset? Why would they be put down? Were people still allowed to do that? Would they have medical issues, and not be able to get better?

"Don. I know your upset, but I never meant to hurt anyone. I made a mistake, I know. However they are you're brothers right. Whatever hardships they face, we will get threw them as a family. Me and Dad talked about it, we sorted things out. You have nothing to worry about, I promos Donnie."

"But I'm just the bad child who needs to be re-taught. you said so yourself. I'm just a bad kid." I whispered, sniffing lightly as my vision blurred lightly.

"What I said was you believed what you were being told. Don, you're almost four. I expect you to absorb whats told to you, even if what is being said is not right. I do have to re-teach you about witches, but only because that kind of racism that she was feeding you can do damage to everyone." Mom responded gently petting my arm. "You're a good kid Donnie, a good kid with a big heart."

As much as this chapter was hard for me to wright, I know it was important and I hope that it shines a bit more light on the world they are in. This takes place early two thousands, so double oh' and all that.
