Craig let out a derisive hoot. The grip around Luke’s upper arm tightened.
“Oh yeah?” he jeered. “You know what? If you want him, come and take him!” He yanked Luke further away.
Luke strained his ears, trying to locate Jake. There it was, his voice, pleading to his older brothers. Luke’s heart clenched at the teary sound. He had no right to make Jake break apart.
“Oh, you really want to shoot? Go ahead! Be careful though. It’s us you want to shoot, not him!” Craig shook Luke viciously, using him as a shield, and he felt even more light-headed. This was all too much for him. Luke began to drift into the darkness that tightly embraced him, destroying his earlier resolve.
Shoot…shoot him now…At least that would free him. Luke’s mind drifted further away into the blackness. For some reason he saw a nice clean classroom with well-dressed students reading from an English lesson. And one of them was him…his mind gave one last gasp. Shoot—
Bang!
