During the dinner, after the Pope proposed a toast in my honor and for the future of the Church that I hope to change with my help, various discussions began about the reforms that should be implemented for the beautification and spiritual enrichment of the Church, so I came up with some ideas.
"Holy Father, Your Eminences, I would like to say something as well. I believe the Church should become closer to the people. You cannot realize from your golden palaces how many people suffer in the hovels of Rome..." I said to everyone's surprise.
"Father Antonio, I think we should let the state take care of these things. You know, the Church deals with the spiritual side of people, not the material one," said one of the cardinals in a harsh voice.
"Eminence, then I recommend that all cardinals and bishops live in monasteries, not palaces. After all, if we only care for the soul, what need do our bodies have?" I replied somewhat boldly.
