She Knows She Is a Monarch

“Huh? Reviewing again? How boring.”

“I have dreams and I’m a student as well. Stop making noise. You are distracting me.”

“I’m hungry.”

Brittany’s eyes left her book and looked at the guy beside her with irritation. He didn’t surrender, he looked back with a sinister smile.

She sighed in defeat and took the apple right beside her.

She took a bite. “Why are you so obsessed with apple? It’s not even that delicious.”

That made the guy satisfied. “Aside from our obsession with humans’ negative emotions, demons are naturally obsessed with apples. Our connection with apples is known even in your world’s history.”

“I have absolutely nothing against what you want or to what you crave for but you see, I don’t like apples!” Brittany sulked and crossed her arms. “I don’t love it? Now, I have to buy these every day just to feed you! What if I don’t feel like eating anymore? And you’re still hungry. Do I still have to eat? You know I’m on a diet.”

“Technically, yes.”

She groaned. “Why don’t you have your own body…?”

“Because I’m a spirit. Still,” he said and crossed his arms. “But you know…you won’t have to be stressed about this if you just give up your body to me."

"You’re not really going to stop persuading me huh? I will never ever give up my body. That’s not part of our agreement.”

“I’m still hungry.”

“Aisht!” she stressfully took another bite.

“If you don’t take care of me properly, I will have to look for another body—I’m sure there are humans out there who’re willing to give up their body to me.”

“Liar,” Brittany slowly said while chewing. “We have an agreement. A deal with the demon is unbreakable. Even you cannot break it. You won't leave me?"

"Please know you’re not allowed to fall in love with us.”

She chuckled wryly. “You’re not my type. Ah! Keep quiet now. I still have to review and I need to focus. Don’t worry, I will finish this one apple. You don’t have to talk to me anymore.”

She went close to her desk while chewing. She started reading in silence, no words hearing from the guy anymore. He just stared at her intently and later on, he spoke.

“I see what you see. I hear what you hear. I know what you feel and think,” he said. “You’re in big trouble, aren’t you?”

Brittany fell silent when she averted her gaze from her book. Her grip on her pen and to the apples has tightened. Later on, she released it together with a deep sigh.

“Big trouble huh…” she leaned at the backrest of her seat. She looked up slightly while thinking deeply. “She’s so close to her family now…”

“Your resolve is weak,” the guy said honestly making Brittany frowned. “You can’t just keep her away from her family and call it revenge.”

“And what is your resolve huh?” she asked with a scowl but it faded instantly. “Right, tell me, you became the other half of me because of this. I agreed to lend you half my body in exchange for your help. Give me an idea to execute my revenge properly and perfectly.”

“Tell that guy Lorenzo the truth. He’s looking for them, isn’t he?”

She blinked twice. Her mouth is slightly parted.

“I didn’t know demons can be this stupid?”

He did the same. He blinked repeatedly while his eyes are on her. He’s not expecting that comment. He sees no mistake in what he suggested.

“There’s a lot of terrible consequence if I did what you suggested.” she looked away from him and took her ballpen. She played it with her fingers. “If I tell him that the Lees he’s looking for is the Lees he was with, he might not believe me and if proved myself right, he would surely investigate about me. How the hell did I know that in the first place? He might tell Cheska who I really am. That I am a Mafia and not a Commoner. Lastly, I see no reason to tell it to him.”

“I know that would be the effects.”

“Then why did you suggest it to me?”

“I agreed to help you in this revenge. I can tell you whatever I could think of. It’s still called as help,” he shrugged. “Besides, do you really think I care to what might happen to you? Humans' sufferings are a pleasure to us. Your problems are sweets to us.”

She only rolled her eyes and took another bite. She started to think deeply. Are there no other ways to execute her revenge?

“I have another suggestion,” the guy raised his pointer finger.

“What is it now?”

“Kill the core.”

She looked at him with pure judgment. “Kill the master? Are you out of your mind? I’m not a murderer.”

“Hm? But you’re a Mafia? You are born to be a murderer,” his head tilted to one side. Brittany only glared at him. “Anyway, I’m not referring to the master. He’s just a substitute, isn’t he? I suggest, kill the former mistress.”

“I now find it really weird,” her eyes squinted at him. “Why are you so obsessed with killing the former mistress? This is not the first time you suggested this one to me.”

The guy only smirked at her. “No personal questions.”

She leaned on her chair again and took another bite. She’s slowly consuming all of it without knowing. The demon is about to meet his satisfaction as well.

“Don’t tell me you see no reason to kill the former mistress as well?” he asked with mockery. “Revenge isn’t suitable for humans with a weak heart.”

“I am not weak,” Brittany said firmly. Her face has suddenly darkened. “I just don’t want to be like that woman. She’s a murderer. I am not. I want to be better than her. I am better than her.”

“You cannot fight a sharp sword with rock, Brittany…” the mockery continues. “If that family killed your parents mercilessly, why would you show mercy to them? Why are you so scared to be a murderer when in fact the moment your mother gave birth to you, you’re already one?

“Do you think your so-called best friend will show mercy to you after she knows what you’re doing behind her back all these years? You know who she is. You know who her real family is. And yet…you did nothing. You didn’t do anything because of your own personal reasons. Do you think the fruit of those murderers is an angel?”

“Cheska is completely different from them,” Brittany countered with conviction. “She’s no murderer. She’s no dictator. She’s not like her family.”

“And that’s because her memories haven’t yet returned. Have you already forgotten the whispers? To what she did to those girls? What are their names again?”

“Alexandra. Julie.”

“Right, those girls.” he plastered a malignant smirk to his lips. “Her words were heard by anyone. Her memories aren’t yet returning, but in her heart, she knows she is a monarch. In her blood, there’s a bloodlust. Do you still defend her?”

“I’m full now,” the guy said. “Think of it carefully, Brittany. Revenge is more fun, exciting and satisfying if blood is spilled…”

Brittany had no time to respond because the guy vanished into thin air and went inside her body. She cursed inside her mind.

That guy surely knows how to distract her. Just as she expected, he’s not going to stop until she loses her focus to what she’s focusing at. How is she going to study now?

He’s indeed a demon.
