When the Reader Descends Into the Novel With a System

Darkness and light. Two extremes coexisting. A law of equivalent exchange, balancing the world. Where there is light, there must be darkness. And as such, where there is darkness, there must be light. That is the rule of the world my child, and you are the one balancing on the fine line, stuck in between. An anomaly. An abomination. Where you go, death and destruction follow. That will be your fate. You are the one and only son of the darkness, mothered by the daughter of the light. What path will you walk my child? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story of Kurayami Akimitsu, a contradiction of light and darkness, and I, who reincarnated into his body. In this world based off a novel I had read, what will happen with the addition of me, an unknown entity? Who knows everything about the future of this world. Will I survive with this identity? Only time will tell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently on HIATUS. This is my WSA 2022 submission. A/N: So this is going to be the second novel that I will seriously write, with an upload rate of 7 chapters a week. My inspirations for this novel were TAPOV (The Author's POV) and DWTN (Dance With the Nightingale) but the world building will be extremely different and the backstory of the MC will be unique also. The ranking system will be the same, but it's the same ranking system across a lot of novels, so I think it's okay for me to use? There also might be cliches like an academy and an auction, but again, I'll make it as different from the norm as possible. I hope that this will be a refreshing take on the "mob character becoming overpowered genre" for you guys. Release Rate: Check the schedule Chapter Length: 1000-1500 words per chapter My chapters are edited by myself, so forgive me if I make any mistakes. Just comment if there is a mistake anywhere. The first 10 or so chapters are filled with world building stuff, so I hope you'll stick with it and read it as I tried to make it all original. After the first 10, the story should pick up and the action will start, so please don't drop it after only reading a few chapters. Discord Link: https://discord.gg/8ePQESSSHT Finally, as always, thanks for reading! All names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this story are purely fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, or products are intended. Note: The cover doesn't belong to me. If you are the original owner and want me to take it down, please leave a comment on my latest chapter.

A Murim World (1) - 84

I guess the black portal was actually supposed to lead somewhere beforehand, because, for some reason, the system showed me the exact same message as when I went into The General Games.

[Interfering with spacial travel...]

[Changing host's destination...]

[Changing the destination of 2 other organisms...]

[Destination set to novel: "Second Life Murim Ranker"...]

...

...

...

[ERROR!]

[The scenario has already been completed...]

[ERROR!]

[Finding solution...]

[Ding!]

[Regression initiated...]

...

...

...

[Regression successful!]

[The host will now enter the world of "Second Life Murim Ranker".]

But this time, before I blacked out, there was one last message.

[Ding!]

[Initiating hidden scenario: "Laplace Transform"]

[The host has is now going into his second world. Upon completion of the normal scenario, the host will be presented with double the amount of awards.]

[If the host so as to chooses to go to a third world afterwards, the host will gain four times the normal amount of rewards.]

It was only after I was given enough time to read that message did I finally lose my consciousness again, as I drifted through the never ending dimension between the cosmos.

...

This time, when I woke up, I didn't immediately sit up, in fear that I was in a bunk bed like back in The General Games.

But, luckily, I wasn't, as I found myself on a grassy knoll, the wind blowing through my long hair, as I watched it create ripples in the sea of green blades.

Yep, I was definitely in a cultivation world.

From the top of the hill, I was able to see a sprawling city nestled in a valley, as tens, if not, hundreds of men and women wearing robes flew around on swords, going to and from the city gates.

As for me, I didn't even need to check my appearance, as my qi told me everything.

I was currently a heavily malnourished young boy, about 6 or 7 years old, with long, somehow, shiny black hair.

And, against all odds, even with my dirtied robes, my face was still pristine, as beautiful as jade, and as sharp as a blade.

But, this was all expected, if I wasn't handsome, then I wouldn't be the protagonist, would I?

Anyways, I laid down again, as I prepared to receive the memories of the body I had been transmigrated into.

"Hiss..."

As the synchronization started, I took in a sharp breath of air, tensing my body to deal with the pain.

By now, I had gotten pretty proficient at standing the pain that came from absorbing memories, and the only side affect this time was the pain, there was no more sweating or convulsing or anything.

And, as the synchronization finished, I found this system message:

[Synchronization - "Second Life Murim Ranker": 80% -> 90%]

[Synchronization - "Second Life Murim Ranker": 90% -> 95%]

Afterwards, the full system page with all my synchronization statuses appeared.

[Synchronization - "Swordfell": 0%]

[Synchronization - "Second Life Murim Hero": 95%]

[Synchronization - "The Blood of the Monarch": 0%]

[Synchronization - "The Great Archmage is Reborn": 0%]

[Synchronization - "A Civil Servant's Life Reborn as an Emperor": 0%]

[Synchronization - "The General Games": 100%]

'It's honestly kind of depressing that I've only managed to get the synchronization rates up for two of the worlds that I have been to.'

//At least you have this cheat. Most other mob characters would have already died by now. Be grateful for what you have.

Hearing the sound of Bella scolding me, I couldn't retort, as everything that she had said was true, I was privileged, and I would exploit this fact to its very last drop.

//Onto the analysis of your situation, we can now safely assume that when you go through these worlds for a second run through, it'll be very likely that you're transmigrated into the same body that you used in the first run through.

//That's pretty obvious, tell me something I didn't know.

//I can make it so that you will never be able to climax again in your life.

"..."

We waited each other out.

"..."

//Okay, I'm sorry.

I was unfortunately the first one to break. After all, I highly valued my family jewels.

//Be grateful that you have me. If you interrupt me when I'm giving you information ever again...

//You'll stop and never continue, I got it.

//I'm glad you understand. Now, onto the structure of this world.

//Do you want me to explain it to the readers? I've actually experienced everything.

//No, because you've experienced it, you'll most likely be biased or forget to add something in your explanation, so I'll do it.

//Okay, whatever you say...

//Alright, so you guys, the readers, this is actually a pretty cool cultivation world that's pretty unique from a lot of other ones. First off, we've both used the word "Murim", so it's kinda obvious that this is the Korean version of the cultivation genre. So, with this, you can expect more hardships, struggles, and gory deaths than when reading Xianxia novels.

//I mean, it's kinda dumb that in those Chinese novels, they always say just, "He killed him", and then they move on.

//Shut it. Anyways, Dear Reader, the second thing you should be expecting from this novel is a lot less faceslapping, Murim novels almost never have that strong of an MC for them to be considered "overpowered" like in a lot of Chinese novels.

//Well, I'm gonna go make myself a faceslapper, so...

//Stop it with the commentary, will ya? Dear Reader, are you getting annoyed? If you are, I can always remove his balls, he'll probably shut up after that.

"N-no! That isn't necessary!" <Reader>

//Well, if you believe so, then let's continue. So now, onto the difference between the goals of the protagonist in a Murim novel and that of a Xianxia novel. You see, in Murim novels, the protagonist is almost always motivated by a desire for revenge. About 80% of Murim novels are like this, and this one, SLMR, is the same. As for the other 20%, those are made up of fanatic protagonists that are martial arts whores. These types of protagonists also make up about half of the Chinese cultivation novel genre. For the other half, you can split it into 25% each and distribute them into two other types of protagonists, one is, again, revenge driven, and the last and final type is the "striving for immortality" protagonist, but, as this is a Murim novel, I won't go too deep into that.

//Uh, I think the chapter is about to end...

//SHUT UP!

"It is though, you've already surpassed 1.2k words..." <Reader>

//Oh, then if the Dear Reader believes that we should end it right here for now, then I guess I will do it as you wish. So then, for the mandatory cliffhanger, that's nonexistent anyways because there are still 4 more chapters that need to be written for the 10 chapter mass release, I'll say that we will be discussing the unique aspects of this Murim world next time, things that set it apart from all other Murim novels, along with the plot of SLMR. See you then!

//You sound so much like a talk show host...

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

(A/N: The demonic AI chip made the MC squeeze his own balls for ten minutes straight, ouch... As a fellow man, I'm sorry for making you go through this.)

6/10 for today's mass release!

Thanks for reading!
