When The Facade Breaks (A Jumpchain Story)

(Any and all recognized media, or characters are not owned by me and are owned by their respective companies and owners.) What is the true value of a second chance? What would most do if they got one? Seek power? Glory? Women? Maybe I would want the same thing. Its time I found out. But first I need to survive to find out. (Expect cliches and a rather boring story, I write this for fun and it will not be a deep story. He will be OP so the stakes will be rather low. Also there will be liberties taken with the jump chain mechanics.) World's Visited List: Jumper (Movie)and Chronicle (Movie)

Never Suffer Variables

(Carter POV)

Before leaving the warehouse, I decided to add a new function to it using the 20 choice points I got for this being a new jump. I had limited options, but one that I felt was necessary for a more dangerous world was definitely the medbay.

According to the document, it said it could fix anything with a pulse, and as I confirmed the purchase, I saw in one corner of the warehouse a small clinic-looking building. As I went inside it, I saw that it was filled with medical supplies as well as vats of green liquid. In the center of the room, there was a kind of containment device, which I assume was used for healing.

Upon further inspection, it looked similar to a bacta tank from Star Wars. So, I assume the green liquid was the bacta. Funnily enough, I could actually be considered an actual doctor due to the pure amount of information within my mind.

Because due to the capstone booster on the master chemist perk, I gained not only information about chemistry but nearly every single facet of physical sciences. In my mind, I had enough information to create miracle medicines that could cure cancer and possibly even end the possibility of diseases.

Speaking of which, I'm gonna have to put on the docket to check out the COVID samples that I got from my previous world and see if I can make a vaccine for that. Yet, even thinking about doing it, my mind was already racing with ideas on various cures and other panaceas.

Honestly, honestly, this NZT was just a high that just never ends. For now, though, I calm the high down as I weigh my options. Before I left the lab, I deleted all of the security footage, and with my trackless perk active, I won't need to worry about getting caught on any cameras.

And since the building I was working in was made in a way where there weren't any cameras pointed towards any of the entrances. No one would know I ever worked there.

But even then, there could be the possibility of an eyewitness account or them catching Vernon. With my now-gained FBI training, I knew they wouldn't just stop there as they would be going over that lab with a fine-toothed comb.

And now I debated whether or not I should even allow Eddie to have his first hit of NZT. Because while he wasn't the most intelligent with it, he would grow to become an undeniable force.

The more logical part of me wanted to just teleport into Vernon's apartment, take all of the pills from him, and then just leave it at that as without the formula for NZT, nor any pills to decide for the formula from, and there is no way for it to be replicated.

Unless the possibility of the formula existing on other sources does exist, that may be an objective of mine for the next five years to hunt down and destroy all evidence of NZT. But from my knowledge of the film, I knew that Vernon wouldn't be contacting Eddie for a couple of days, so for now, I should use it to advance my telekinesis.

Even now, I can feel my telekinetic aura spreading from my usual 4 feet to 6 and then to eight, and then even 10 in a radius around me. I was hyper-aware of everything within 10 feet of me, and that was only just the beginning.

Within my telekinesis field, I could sense the smallest particles of dust wafting through the warehouse. I could tell that without my NZT-enhanced brain. I would be getting a massive headache from just trying to take in all of this information.

Another part of my brain began to ponder how telekinesis even works in the first place. One idea was through some kind of electromagnetic manipulation. That, or the aliens themselves, have access to some form of cyanic energy that may exist within every single mind. Still, through the alien's evolution, they may have been able to tap into ionic energy.

So many theories were just bursting through my mind. it was like seeing the world through a new lens of color, as I could look at nearly every material in my warehouse and understand when it was created, how it was created, and why it was valuable.

Exiting the warehouse, I entered my apartment, which was now back in New York City instead of Seattle, which was nice as I actually enjoyed the New York City view more than the Seattle one. However, the downside was at the stars in New York City were harder to see in Seattle.

I assume that has to be due to the pollution in the air, in addition to rain, being more common along the Atlantic coast and the Great Lakes.

Weather-based deductions aside as I entered my apartment I just had to take a second to take the view in as due to my hyper-enhanced brain, I could tell each and everything in this apartment was made of. Honestly, the burst of information in the ability to think so much more clearly and efficiently was something I wasn't used to.

I'm definitely going to spend some time towards increasing my wisdom as well as my intellect as I don't want to end up as a 100 intellect and zero wisdom type build.

I also need to test out the limits of my master of motion perk that I got from capstone boosting, the FBI training perk, as it should allow me to replicate any martial arts. I see incredible efficiency in getting the basics down within a couple of repetitions.

It marvels me how fast people can ramp up in these jump worlds. In the first one, all I could do was teleport, but I was only stronger than a baseline human. Still, now, with my enhanced telekinesis teleportation and the ability to mimic any martial arts, I see after only three jump worlds, it makes me wonder how effectively I can take these powers.

Even my ability to teleport has improved, as through my increased intellect, I can better visualize where I want to go and how I want to move in my teleportation. I felt as if I could hop from the North Pole to the South Pole with ease in one teleportation.

Yet, after thinking about it like that, I pondered how far I could go. Thanks to my perfect memory and now my ability to think at an incredible speed, I could replay my entire life in seconds.

Every single heartbeat across every single breath of air I took, I could remember. It was as beautiful as it was humbling in how it seemed so short. It was definitely a perspective shift in my way of living my life and what was essentially the third person.

But even with such an ability, it did come with a downside, as it was a reminder of how monotonous it was. It puts every single moment of my life in perspective, and for now, I'm going to deal with that later.

Focusing on my memories of the Limitless movie, I recalled the look of Vernon's apartment. After grabbing my ski mask, gloves, and a pair of sunglasses, I teleported to his apartment.

It was about as messy as I expected, and seeing as he wasn't home, I prepared a sedative to drug him. The materials for which I borrowed from my previous lab, as I didn't want to kill him. I just did not want the NZT out in the wild, even more than it already was.

It's almost hilarious how intelligence seems like the deadliest weapon for a human to have, and having an entire world of super intellects is actually a terrifying prospect.

So, as I waited in his apartment, I practiced my telekinesis as I tried to separate the various dust bunnies around the apartment into the small words above me.

Even now, I can barely feel the strain of what I was doing, as I was not only using it to move objects around me but also to keep my telekinetic aura around me.

Thankfully, I didn't have to wait too long as about an hour into my steak out, the door was open, and Vernon trudging through the door, holding the bags in his hand, looking ready to open it.

Using my telekinesis, I floated along the floor, and as he sat on the couch, I floated behind him and ejected him with a light sedative. After tossing the needle into a volcano, I teleported back to his apartment and grabbed the NZT pills.

Immediately taking the bags and tossing them into my warehouse, I teleported out of there and back to my apartment. And now, without Vernon to experience the benefits of NZT or the ability to tell Eddie about it. I won't need to worry about the events of the movie actually happening.

And now, if nothing goes wrong, it will be a very easy five years. And after tempting Murphy, I've already calculated that possibility decreasing by a large margin.

So, as I sat down on my couch in my apartment, I continued my practice, using my telekinesis, trying to go as small as I could go but past the tiniest dust particle. My nose started bleeding as I tried to go smaller.

Grabbing some tissues from my nearby tissue box, I begin to stun the bleeding, and while it was a far cry from being able to move bacteria as they could do in the possible sequel for the Chronicle movie, I will get there eventually.

For now, though, I close my eyes and try to focus on the memories that I've gained through taking this origin in this identity. In addition to my FBI training perk, which has added what is essentially a bunch of training montages into my brain, which I will need to go over in order to learn all of the skills.

FBI Training: You now have the comprehensive education of an FBI Agent, with the skills to be the best. You have many talents: a great investigator, a brilliant interrogator, a great shot with both pistol and rifle, a highly-trained unarmed combattant (lethal and non-lethal), an expert at urban parkour, and are brilliant at navigating the political hierarchies and satisfying any bureaucratic standards. You're effortlessly meticulous, never forgetting to dot an I or cross a t, naturally, but never get bogged down with the rules when direct action is required. You could quickly fill any position in any department of the government.

But I do admit it was tempting to go down to a shooting range as I've never done so before. According to the FBI training book, I should be a fantastic shot, but that is still a possibility. However, I was entirely disinterested in working for the government.

While I do somewhat feel bad for Eddie, I would rather not deal with the shenanigans in the possibility of him, figuring out that I had powers. The limitless movie, nor the show actually showed the actual depth of his intellect.

Although the trade-off is that this jump is going to be rather dull for the next five years, I'll take safety over random chaos. At least, until I get to more supernatural jumps.

I did find an interesting jump supplement for my next jump, but it is rather embarrassing as it's mostly just meant to help me get a good night's sleep. I will probably supplement my next jump using it.

While Aladdin is an interesting world, it's a very short one similar to the other movie universe jumps that I've taken as once I deal with a particular corrupt government official and free a certain genie. That's all that will be left.
