Selfish

MARK POV:

"Yeah. I feel a bit sore though. My back pain has decreased and my eyes aren't burning that much either. My teeth are great. Haha." She tapped her index finger on her teeth, smiling.

At that moment, I couldn't not smile. "That's great."

Yet behind the smile, my heart ached. As my mission is now complete, I have to go back to where I came from. When I accepted the mission, falling in love with a human was the least of my worries. I didn't even think of it happening, but here I am.

Do I have to leave her now? Is this the end?

Zeus's words stuck in my mind."Remember, you can't fall in love with her. When a god falls in love with a human it ends up destroying the beloved by time. Few years and the beloved totally disappears "

I should leave. Not because I am from another world. Not because my mission has ended. Not because our relationship won't work. But because, if I stay, Everly will be in danger.

Yet I couldn't help but be selfish.Wanting to spend every future second with her. Wanting to help her grow past her fear. Wanting to stand by her and kiss her pain away , everyday, for the rest of our lives. Yet again, this can't happen. She'll disappear.

"Ahh." She sighed elongating her legs stretching them as far as she can. "I don't know what could've happened to me without you." Seeing her smile because of me is enough, and leaving her, will sure not put a smile on her face.

"I may have died." She joked. "Which I would've wanted a while ago." She added her tone more serious this time as she smiled lightly. She chewed on her lower lip , her fingers finding their way to mine.

"You know...just by having you beside me, gave me the power to keep on living and work on myself to be stronger." She held me by my shirt on both sides, burring herself on my chest.

I bit on my lips trying to stay strong. Aseseus, man up. Everly, please stop talking. I held my face up as I hugged her back , keeping my tears in place.

"Oh what would I do if it weren't for you." She snuggled even more. Everly please...one more word , and I wouldn't be able to leave. Don't say anything anymore.

"Just the thought of having you by my side forever, makes me feel better." Shit.

"I love you Everly." I just couldn't. I hugged her more tightly,as she rubbed her head on my neck. All the courage I gathered to leave her, was shattered in a few words from her. I felt selfish. By staying here, I wasn't thinking about her safety. I was just thinking about my own happiness. I'm sorry Everly.

"I love you too , Mark." I will stay, even if it's just for a few more days. I'll try to find answer. Let me be selfish for just a few days. Please.

EARTH:

"Is." Raoul stated, this time smiling right before Iris. Iris stopped , her lips forming a thin line as she looked at the smiling Raoul.

She stopped for two reasons. One, for the closeness of their bodies. Two, for his smile. His smile that she was rarely able to catch, and whenever she does it would send her high up the sky. Just like a few seconds ago , when Raoul couldn't stop laughing.

But soon, his smile faded, which made Iris scared. "I'm sorry." He stated fixing his shirt as he walked a bit farther, standing next to the table chair.

"I shouldn't have done that.I am sorry if I disturbed your personal space."

Iris's mouth opened yet closed without uttering a word. She wanted to say that she didn't mind being this close with him,but she didn't. "No worries.Let's eat." Iris sighed low enough for only her to hear. Whenever she thought that they both made a step further, Raoul would block her away with a metal wall harder than that of the one that separated the prisoners in Mount Olympus, she thought.

Raoul was tense when they were eating. He thought that Iris was feeling uncomfortable with him being here and wanted to excuse himself. He was internally cursing himself for acting this way. He shouldn't have come this close to her just the same as he shouldn't tease her this much.

"Iris." He called which made Iris bob up her head that was hanging low towards the plate. "I am sorry I made you uncomfortable." He stood up, passing a napkin to his lips. "Thank you for the food."

"You're leaving?" Iris asked, even though she was aware that he was. Anyone could know that. He was already making his way to the door.

He opened the door excusing himself. "Wait...Raoul." Iris called as she walked fast to the door holding it still.

"Actually..."
