The police station suddenly was hit with many rumors on the internet since there is no follow-up giving from the police to the media even after the media surrounds the police station. Not just facing two dead cases that still leaving Inspector Nick and his team a dead end. No clue can be retrieved from the investigation, even the chemicals are legal, it just that the combinations with chemicals make the victims react to the most dangerous state which resulting them starting all over again.
"Is there anything else?"
Inside the monitor's room, Inspector Nick and his assistant Officer Kim sit on the chair looking at all of the surveillance at the park. It is already four hours since the video plays all over again since Inspector Nick suspecting that they had missed something. The recording keeps on playing on the screen, trying to search for something that might trigger anything that could let them head forwards without being stuck on the same pattern.
Turning around, Officer Kim just shake his head at one of the police who was in charge in the monitor's room. Leaving the room, the pair of boss and subordinate continues watching the screen with their maximum level of focus, it is already ten days after the cases have been open but until now there are no clues that can lead them to the next new discovery.
This not only makes Inspector Nick anxious but also makes him remember the failure of saving the victims from his previous cases. Since their second victim was a student studying at the Top 10 University in the town, he becomes more stressed and keeps on having a nightmare about the cases.
Deciding to keep on analyzing all the clues, Inspector Nick started with watching all the surveillance to search for any loophole that can bring him to a new discovery. However even after he rewatch the fourth tape, there is still no odd or any suspecting thing that can lead him to advance in the case. The fourth tape was from the junction which could give full views to the parking lot where the dead body was placed at. Since the tape was taken at the midnight, the quality of the video seems to be a little low.
"Inspector, what if the murderer has tampered with the surveillance record?"
Officer Kim who just finished watching the third surveillance tape voice out his opinion. This opinion not only had been considered before a couple of times, just there is no proof to show that all of the records had been tampered with before. There is no break between the seconds of the recording, but still, they can't get any shadow of the killer.
Even the sixth surveillance camera only show how the body was placed on the road one by one but still, it didn't fully show it in full view. Every time there try to combine the scenes, it always ends up with something being missing which prevents them to get the pattern and the killer's behavior.
The monitor screen is full of pitch-black, even after they used the infrared to make the picture clearer, it is still being disturbed by the shadow of the tree and animals that fly at the scenes. Not only it leaves them with blank information, but it also makes the investigation paused due to a lack of clues.
"I don't think so, because the tape had long been checked by the technical team. I think this killer is either an expert or there is someone who helps him with the strategies."
Looking at his notebook after pausing the video, Inspector Nick replied to his assistant. Inside his mind, there are countless scenes replay based on his experience with his senior from his previous office. One of the murderers cased that he had been handled was involving with a teacher who has extremely good skills in making analyses.
Not only she killed his husband and make it look like a suicide, but she also manages to fake all the proof until one of his seniors found an odd transaction inside the woman's accounts. That cased not only make their previous investigation useless but also send them to the very beginning where they have to reinvestigate the woman and her past activities.
Thinking about it, not only Inspector Nick started to get headaches but also makes him feel tired because all of it involving very smart and careful calculations which is hard to notices.
Listening to his boss's words, Officer Kim started to work his brain out. There are countless people who had their intelligence above normal people since there is a Top 10 University there which consist of thousands of smart students, but other than that there are also people who were once influenced and got many resources.
Just take a look at the two victims' backgrounds, both of them came from wealthy families which not only the murderer was from their enemies in business but also can be from their competitors.
"Inspector, what if this is a conspiracy to let the family business down? Since both of the victims came from a wealthy family, this might be one of their motives, right?"
Considering his assistant words, Inspector Nick sits with his eyes focus on the screen. Facing the murderer's case is not something that easy. From investigating the killer's behavior based on the murdered scenes to finding its motives through the pattern, all of it needs clues and deep thinking because only that they can advance to another step. It will be more stressful if the killer is a smart or the killer have a very obsessive behavior which will make the cases hundreds time harder to be cracked.
"Well, we can keep it in our mind at the moment, but for now just stick to the killer profile with a professional label since his actions were perfect."
Nodding his head, Officer Kim jotted down his opinion. Looking at his assistant doing his job, Inspector Nick can't help from asking for the result from the surveillance.
"Is there anything odd with the surveillance you had been reviewing?"
Head up facing his superior, Officer Kim answer with shaking his head. It is really hard for him to keep on review the surveillance over and over, all thing he can see is nature throughout the nighttime without any figure even after watching it using the night version ten times.
The camera that facing the entrance of the parking lot only can record a limited view, however, based on the area that covered the body, some of the body parts will be capture through the surveillance camera. However, besides the part that the body is put down, there is nothing else that could be seen from the recorded tape.
They can see the hand of the victims being put on the road, but there is no figure, or any hand can be seen even the shadow that forms due to the light can't give the police any clues due to the overlapped shadow from the trees which make it look like the killer is an expert who knows the map of the parking lot very clear.
Thus, the identity of the killer as a local was decided after the very careful acts show by the murderer for the two cases in a row. Nevertheless, that's the only thing that they know about the murderer, other than that there are no specific clues that can lead them to narrow down the subject which makes them work extra hours.
Although there is a big gap between the two murderers' cases were a week, all of the police in Oakstead believed that the two cases were done by the same person which makes them somewhat relieves.
