Chapter 19

I decided that before spending any money, I would try to get the basics of "the beginner art of sword fighting". So I headed to the bookstore while Raoul went to do his own thing. The bookstore wasn't nearly as big as a library, but the shelves had various witch tomes encased in a glass box enchanted with magic. Some of the tomes were labeled with history of magic, the art of fire magic, the art of destruction magic etc. But what I was looking for was a tome into the art of sword fighting.

Towards the back they had the book I was looking for; and around it were the various weapons you might use in battle, along with their techniques. I handed the 20 gold, required to read the book, to the clerk who unlocked the case which didn't seem to open it. Instead when I placed my hands onto the case the pages of the book began to show in my mind. Any normal person would take hours to read it but luckily the system was there.

(Would host like system to download book into brain? (y/n))

"YES!" thank god I don't actually have to read it that would take forever. I quickly prepared myself for the headache that would surely come.

The information quickly flooded my brain creating a small headache. The information wasn't as complicated or as much as it was with the training exercise I obtained from the system. Unfortunately the system didn't sound letting me know I had finished my quest; meaning I would have to practice many of the techniques that just flooded my brain. I guess this was a good chance to test my new sword.

There was one other bonus to having the information downloaded into my brain, I would easily remember everything the book said. Which I realized when instead of heading to the sword fighting area, I was walking to the forest to practice with a tree. Once I made it into the forest (on the opposite side of the Orcs), I walked up to a tree and began my practice.

The tome had stated, to build the correct muscles while also engraving the swinging motion into your brain, you should swing the sword using the technique you learned at the tree 500 times in a row. Needless to say it was very tiring. I had finished doing three different techniques and I was about to start my fourth; when all of a sudden a tree near me began to move in a weird way. I looked over and activated my inspect out of habit; just in front of me it explained what was happening.

{Intermediate Tree Ent}

Health: 300; 1% chance ring will tame Ent, to increase chance damage Ent. Tree Ent drops a rare nature spell tome on death.

Of coarse I'd love to learn a spell, let alone however many this tome might contain; but 300 health is so fucking much. Well at least I now had the sword and a few techniques to help me.

I swung the sword hard at the Ent, who was luckily very slow. I had been attacking him around 20 minutes and his health was down to 280; there was no way this would work. I needed to think of something quick to end this fight. OH My God!

I really can't be blamed, I had a new shiny toy to play with and some fun techniques to try. But, after all this is a tree, and what better way to kill a tree than with fire. I pulled out my bow, which greatly decreased my stats from the plus 5 bonus I had grown accustomed to, and activated with an arrow at the ready. I fired at the Tree Ent as it lunged in for the kill and set it ablaze. Its health quickly dwindled from the 280 down to 200, then further down to 120. Then it stopped squirming trying to put out the fire, and instead raised its hand as branches grew from the ground all around it surrounding it in a big dome.

As I inspected it, it showed the health of the Tree Ent had stopped at 60. One arrow brought it down from the high value of 280, down to a measly 60. Of coarse with my sword I still wouldn't be able to take that health away; but with my bow, it would be easy. I decided to wait for the dome to fall down so I could finish the job when all of a sudden, the dome started to glow. Upon inspection I realized waiting was not an option… the Ent's health was quickly being restored.

I actually wrote this story a couple months back and have been making minor tweeks since. I haven't added a chapter past this and I am unsure whether or not I should. If you would like me to add more leave a comment letting me know. If not thats cool too. :) Oh and while you're waiting feel free to read my other book which I am continuously updating, called So We're Co-owners of a Magic Shop?!
