Jules has o problems. Chapter 25: Not Heartless Enough

Jules

As soon as I get home, I rush to my father’s office and place the keycard where it was. A noise startles me as I’m about to step out of the office. Stepping back into the doorway, I take a couple of deep breaths as the sound of muffled footsteps come closer.

As quietly as I can, I close the office door, close my eyes, and concentrate on my super hearing. My heart pounds wildly in my chest, and my throat grows dry. I’m sure it's Clarissa’s footsteps that I hear because they’re light but purposeful. Fearing discovery, I search the room, but there’s nothing I can use.

Before I left for the clinic, I came home and hung out until it was time for bed and slipped another set of pills into her tea, but it seems that they’re not affecting her as strongly as I thought because she’s awake. I figure she must not have drunk all of her tea.
