Report To A Knight

The Tram system is the only form of public transport that exists for travel inside the city, with regular trains being used for travel between cities and countries. Using the Trams Aurik was able to reach the estate after roughly 20 minutes and immediately rushed to the main building in the centre.

He had already been informed beforehand about what to do if he needed to speak to a Knight so he knew where to go. He zipped through a few hallways and found himself in front of a brunette woman who was busying herself with paperwork behind a desk.

The woman appeared to be around 30 years of age and was a Soldier like Aurik. She noticed him entering the room and could already tell that he was in a rush based on the expression on his face.

"I need to speak to one of the Knights, any of them!" Aurik said urgently before he even arrived in front of her desk.

"You know we can't just see a Knight because we feel like it, right? Unless you have something important to say then you'll have to make an appointment for another time." The woman spoke in a flat and tired tone with little expression on her face, it was clear that she was somebody who did not enjoy her job.

"It is important! If I'm lying then I'll be the one who suffers the consequences anyways, right? So just let me speak to one of the Knights!" Aurik was extremely agitated. He knew that there was only so much time left until the sun came up and the blood storage was attacked, he needed to report this quickly so that the relevant personnel could be prepared.

"Alright, just wait here." The woman stood up with a sigh. "I'll inform the Knight on duty..." She walked out of the room through a different door than Aurik entered by and disappeared beyond.'

After about a minute had passed the woman returned and shook her head while looking at the young man who was waiting anxiously. "I'm sorry but the Knight has declined your request to see him since he is busy. If you want you can make an appointment or- Hey, Stop!"

Aurik didn't wait for the woman to finish speaking and barged through the door into the room she had just come from.

'She wasn't gone long so if she spoke to the Knight then he must be very close by, either in this room or one connecting to it.' Aurik's thoughts were confirmed the moment he opened the door as an elderly man with long grey hair and a similarly long grey beard was sitting behind a desk at the back of the room.

The green colour in his eyes was enough to confirm that this man was a Knight but that wasn't even needed since Aurik already knew him. He was the same old man who had performed his test the day he arrived at the estate, the one who laughed at him for not having an ability.

'Why did it have to be this guy!?' He shouted in his head with frustration. He had asked Jessie about the Knights who tested him and found out that this man's name was Ivan and he was the oldest Knight in the city.

"Knight Ivan, I have something urgent to report!" Aurik said with urgency, biting back his animosity towards the man.

Ivan was sitting comfortably in his chair with his feet on the desk and a book in his hands. A clear look of annoyance appeared on his face as he placed down the book and sat up.

"Soldier Aurik... what do you think you are doing? Barging into a room that a Knight is using is a great offense!" Ivan's voice was filled with indignation as he looked at the audacious Vampire before him.

"I understand, Sir, but this truly can't wait!" Aurik wanted nothing more than to slap this old man in the face but right now he needed him.

Ivan raised an eyebrow and thought for a moment before letting out a sigh and waving his hand. The woman, who had followed Aurik into the room, quickly left and made sure to close the doors behind her.

"Speak."

"I overheard some Mages talking about an attack on a place known as the 'blood storage' while I was working at the bar. They said the attack would happen as soon as the sun came up so there isn't much time bef-"

"That's enough!" Ivan shouted, cutting Aurik off. "Do you really expect me to believe that a bunch of Mages would attack us? They would be insane to do so! Mages might be able to produce powerful attacks but it takes them ages to cast a single spell, if they attack us it would cause an all out war that they have no hope of winning."

"That doesn't change what I heard!" Aurik couldn't believe what he was hearing. What difference did it make what Mages could or couldn't do? The fact they were planning an attack should be enough to at least warrant some more questions but this man was just outright denying everything!

"You impertinent-!" Ivan looked like he was about to explode but he suddenly stopped and calmed down. "I see, so that's how it is. You're making this up to try and earn some fame."

"What? No I-"

"Don't try to deny it. You don't have any abilities, which means your future as a Vampire is set in stone. You knew you couldn't actually earn your way up the ladder so you decided to take credit for stopping an imaginary attack. Let me guess, when nobody shows up to attack the blood storage you're going to claim that they called it off because of the increased security that's only there thanks to your warning. Sound about right?"

Ivan shook his head and sighed with a defeated smile on his face. "I can't believe we have someone like you among our ranks. Get out! And If you ever lie to me again I'll cut your head off!
