Upon a Certain Death

What would you do if you knew that you were bound to die by the time you turn to a certain age? For Adelaine Reese, she'd much prefer to be someone who'd only die as she reaches a certain age than suffer her whole life with an absolute trash of a family. And as if fate has heard her, she woke up in a world wherein she thought she is now in a body that could never die, until she read a certain book. Her death was inevitable. From the day she learned how to walk and knew her own name, she figured it out. She's bound to die in eighteen years because of the disease – no, the curse – that was placed upon her. It wasn’t the type to slowly make her suffer or weaken her as time passes, but a poison that will immediately kill her once the clock strikes twelve for her eighteenth birthday. A horrible curse that she could never undo or remove, for it resided in her body on the day that she came out from her mother’s womb. It’s a curse that was set to be the only thing to kill her, because nothing or no one else could. Now as Zeshia Kylio Edregburn, the daughter of a witch and the descendant of a demon, she faces a certain death while doing whatever the hell she wants. * - - - - - * "Why are you avoiding me?" His amber eyes shone like gold as tears started to form. If it was any bystander who saw this expression in his face, they would feel pity and cry together with him. But not me. "Didn't I make it clear from the start? I hate you and I avoid things that I hate. It was you who wanted to stick to me." Sharps words escaped from my mouth, paired with a glare directed to this trash. I loathe this man. It was supposed to be the last job that I'll take before I die, and it was the right one for me. I've always wanted revenge for men who deceive women with their sweet words, only to leave them with the responsibility to take care of a child. And this bastard exactly did that. Now he tries to take my pity again, as he fell down from his high status, since the child he left was now successful in her clothing store. Allia, a precious child that continued to persevere and had the talent. I'd never let this bastard come near you. "What should I do for you to forgive me?" He was crying his eyes out, his shoulders shaking from weeping too hard. Like hell I care. An idea crossed my mind and a smirk made its way to my face. "You said you'd do anything, right?" He looked at me with wide eyes and fervently nodded. I walked towards his position and pushed him, causing him to fall to the ground. Using my left foot, I stepped on his chest and looked down on him, like a tyrant empress looking at an ant. He tried to struggle away from me, but I stepped on his chest harder. I raised my left brow and leaned towards his face, making sure that he'll see my smile. "Then strip naked and run on the plaza while screaming that you're a bastard and a trash who left his child for years and beg for her help when fate took everything from you." Although it was not really fate who took everything from him. I was the one who made sure to have him left with nothing. * - - - - - * NOTE: This story contains vulgar language and explicit descriptions of abuse and harassment that may not be appropriate for some readers.

Quezir

Well, damn.

Using a certain spell that I just learned around 4 years ago, I was able to see a portion of this soul's memory and the features of his daughter matched with the aristocratic woman that had me in prison a few hours ago.

Ah, how can I help this soul when his daughter was the one who led me to be imprisoned?

But it's not like I can leave him either.

"I get it. What's your name, mister?" I asked him. "It's Quezir, miss. How about you?" After a few seconds of contemplating on what I should answer, I sighed and just told him my real name.

Well, it's not like I he won't know the truth since I'd still say it later when we would have the contract.

"Zeshia, but please call me Zee." His black eyes reflected surprise upon hearing my name, as expected. "Zeshia? You mean the--" He wasn't able to continue his words when I cut off his words.

"Yes, that's me. In the flesh. Now, would you like to ask for my services? I'll do my best to help you." His eyes gazed at me with fear, but after a few seconds, he seemed to have made up his mind. "If you would, then please, Miss Zee. I don't think I'd ever meet a person like you again through coincidence." The hint of amazement and desperation was in his voice that I can't help but feel some pity.

Well, it's not like I can refuse a request even if I want to.

"Okay, but before we go to the contract, what do you want me to do?" I asked him but he looked conflicted with my question. It took him quite a while to answer, so I leaned on the cold stone wall as I waited for him. A few minutes later and he looked at me with an unsure expression on his face.

"I'm not quite sure on what I want you to do, but for now, I just want to see and meet my daughter again." I just nodded with what he said. That's quite a vague answer, but I guess we'll just see what will happen along the way.

"Okay, I get what you want, Quezir. Then, what will you give me in exchange?" He seemed surprised by my question, or maybe my voice? I already knew that something with me has changed as soon as I asked that, but I had to.

Quezir was silent for a while, probably thinking of what he could offer to me.

"You know me, don't you? Unfortunately, I can't afford to be a good samaritan anymore. If you wouldn't be able to decide on what you'd give to me in exchange, then I shall be the one deciding it for you." A chilling tone came with my voice as I told him that, making him flinch.

Ah, I didn't intend to do that though. The tone came out subconsciously.

"T-Then... Would teaching you a high-level archery technique be enough?" He asked me and I was quite shocked with his offer. The edges of my lips curved upwards and I stared straight into his eyes with amusement.

Hmm... I wonder if this was really a mere coincidence that he met me.

Setting that aside, I knew that he already figured out that he got my attention. "Well then, I guess you got yourself a deal. I'd be having high expectations from you, Mister Quezir." Before he could even respond, I closed my eyes and let the magic flow. When I opened them again, a magic circle was present between us and I chanted the spell.

"I, Zeshia Kylio Edregburn, with the demon's blood running in my veins, swears to help Quezir, the lost soul, in his regrets by fulfilling his requests in exchange of a high-level archery technique." The magic circle glowed with a faint red light as I touched it and as soon as Quezir did the same, it glowed a bright red. "Aihsez." The magic circle became dark red for a few seconds before disappearing into thin air.

I smiled at Quezir who was now staring at me with a dumbfounded expression.

"Well, before we start searching for your daughter, I think I have to escape from here first." I was about to use teleportation magic when a something hit the rails of the jail. I turned my head, only to see the same leader of the guards who dragged me here a few hours ago, holding a spear in his hand. It must be the thing that he used to hit the poles.

His eyes roamed my body from the bottom to top with disgust and irritation. I had to control myself from scoffing with his expression. How annoying.

"Hey, the lady is looking for you. Get out." He said as he unlocked the door and held the chains in my hands to drag me outside.

The lady, huh?

When I turned to look at Quezir, he seemed worried about the way I was being treated but I smirked at him and mouthed,

"Looks like we don't have to search for her anymore." From worry, I saw how his emotions shifted to excitement and happiness. Well, I hope he maintains those enthusiastic emotions even after seeing his daughter's attitude right now.

It wasn't long until the guard opened a steel door and pulled me in. By the time I entered, I was greeted by the same lady with cat-like brown eyes, looking at me with an arrogant expression on her face. Behind her was the same maid and she was looking at me with disdain in her eyes.

I just silently stared at the both of them for quite a long time, which probably annoyed them further. Their eyes then shifted to the guard beside me and within a second, I felt a force kicking the back of my knees, causing me to kneel on the hard ground.

"Miss Zee!" Quezir called for me, but I paid him no mind. I looked up and blankly stared at the three people who were radiating anger.

"What are you doing, you stupid beggar? Greet Lady Erilleian!" The guard grabbed my head and forced me to bow.

"Erilleian?" I whispered, but I think they heard it since gasps escaped from their mouths. The guard held my chin to lift my face up and I was greeted by his angry expression.

"What kind of disrespect! How can you not know the family who had great contributions in the great wars?" He was clearly astounded and angry at me, but I didn't care. I glanced at the lady's direction who was now staring at me with contempt.

Was she that insulted that I didn't know about her family?

Ignoring that for a while, I tried to glance around and saw Quezir who was staring at the lady with a confused expression on his face.

What's wrong?

He must have noticed my gaze since he turned to me and answered my unsaid question.

"That... is not my daughter, Miss Zee."

My god.
