Undetermined

Death and Taxes. The two insurpassable laws of the universe. So long as humans exist in this world, these things will remain. However, there is a 3rd law which has always, and will always implement itself on people. Suffering. Reincarnated in a new world, five people are forced to learn this the hard way. Placed on 'Nightmare mode' and being reincarnated as monsters, they are forced to survive under incomprehensible conditions. However it is only through suffering, that we grow as people. And it is only through suffering, that we truly become monsters. "Nightmare mode.... eh? Tell me, what exactly was this mode supposed to mean again? Were our lives supposed to become nightmares?" Without suffering, there is no change in anything. "Or were we supposed to become the nightmares?" This is the story of the antiheroes.

Chapter 471- Correct

[10:00 AM]

Garett shot forward, heading straight for the blonde haired man who smugly stood before him.

'He..... is wide open. Or he would appear that way.'

The man stood with his arms crossed, smirking as his golden hair fluttered in the wind.

His eyes were those of someone who held no consideration towards defeat, as if it were a completely foreign concept.

'Well, I bet this guy has only tasted defeat once in his life. And that was when he died.'

Garett had heard the story of Oscar from Claire, who seemed to be aware of many things about him.

Garett bore no weapon.

He wore a flexible suit, and his hand was pulled back with his fingers pointed so that he could use it to stab right through the heart of his opponent.

Rushing forth, Garett watched the eyes of Oscar carefully as he approached the man at an immense speed.

Time had literally slowed down around the two, to the point where everything around them seemed frozen.

Yet... Oscar followed Garett with his eyes.

His smirk deepened, his lips wrapping themselves around his face like a wire.

"Do you think you stand a chance against me, antihero?"

Thrusting his hand forward, Garett pierced the heart of the man.

Or he thought he did.

Yet in that instant, the moment he made contact with the man, Garett found himself disoriented.

'Wha..... where.....'

Garett was now on the side of Oscar, a few meters away.

'I see. So that's how it is. But I need to confirm.'

Rushing forth once more, Garett took another stab at the man, to which the man turned his head, looking Garett in the eyes once more as he made not a single movement.

He received the sharp blow as if it were nothing, and once more the moment Garett came into contact with the man, he was teleported to a completely different location.

This time however, Garett saw it.

'So that's how it is. Trevor was right. We can't beat this guy.'

In that instant, Garett witnessed the skin of Oscar become a glitchy mess.

This glitch then spread across the body of Garett, disintegrating him into nothingness.

And then, Garett was teleported to a completely different location.

'Quantum indeterminacy.'

The Indeterminant held control over a field within a certain range of his body.

Everything within this field was in a state of indeterminacy.

Essentially, the position of Garett was not ever set in place within this field.

The moment Garett had come into contact with the Indeterminant, his own location had become indeterminant as well for a moment before stabilizing, appearing as if he had teleported somewhere else completely.

'This is the reason why the Indeterminant has never been attacked before, even in the fight with Kyle. In every universe in which the Indeterminant was attacked, he switched to one where he was not. It's impossible to exist in a universe where you lay an attack on him.'

What did it mean to be truly indeterminant?

What does it mean to divide zero by zero?

When a mathematician is asked this question, some may tell you that an answer does not exist.

"Zero divided by zero? Are you stupid? There's no solution. It doesn't exist."

DNE.

Does not exist.

This term is commonly used by all mathematicians when a state of indeterminacy appears within a problem.

Why then, are you not allowed to divide by zero?

Why when every number is divided by itself, you get an answer of one, but for some reason 0 is different?

Why is 0/0 not 1?

This is because of what it means to divide by something.

There are two possible definitions of division, both of which lead to different answers.

1. To divide A by B means to determine the number of times B can be added before A is exceeded.

Take 4/2, for example.

2+2 is of course, 4.

Adding any further increment of 2 will exceed 4.

Therefore, in order to reach 4, 2 must be added exactly 2 times.

No more, no less.

What of the 2nd definition?

2. To divide A by B means to determine the number of times B can be added before A is reached.

In the previous example, 2 can be added exactly twice before 4 is reached.

This is true for all division.

Except for 0.

When one considers the first definition, one will quickly realize that zero can be added infinitely, and yet it will never exceed zero.

The answer then, would be infinity.

When one considers the second definition however, before even adding any zeroes, 0 has already been reached.

The answer then would be zero.

However, no matter how many zeroes are added, zero is always reached.

One zero, two zeroes, three zeroes.

Any number of zeroes can add up to zero, and they can add to nothing else.

Therefore, what does it mean to divide 0 by 0?

It means that there is both no answer, and that there are infinitely many answers.

To be indeterminant is to both exist and to not exist, simultaneously.

In his past life, Garett was a major in mathematics.

He understood this, and that was why he so quickly knew as soon as he begun fighting with the Indeterminant.

'This man is not someone I can defeat.'

For how can one defeat an opponent who exists and does not exist at the same time?

Yet even so, a wicked grin drew itself across the face of the crimson demon.

"Heh..... you really are broken, aren't you?", Garett asked.

"Broken? Such a casual term holds a negative connotation."

Turning around to face Garett, Oscar held out his hands with utmost confidence.

"I would prefer the term... divinely empowered."

With a sinister sneer, Oscar looked down on Garett as he laughed to himself.

"After all..... I am a figure of justice, demon. And there exists no evil which can defeat he who fights..... for the sake of justice."

As he said this, it appeared as if the man known as the Indeterminant was radiating with light.

His clothes ever so lightly fluttered in the wind, and across this barren landscape of which destruction had been wrought over, he appeared to be the one beam of hope.

This was how it would appear to an outsider, were anyone present to witness this fight.

Four beings of evil.

Four demon lords.

And a radiant figure of justice, brave and powerful enough to take them on all at once.

"Yeah well, if that's what you wanna think... heh..... then I'll just have to use every underhanded trick at my disposal."

With this, Garett rushed forward.

'If attacking him physically won't work, then what about using a system based ability?'

Garett shot forward, placing his hand on the shoulder of the man.

[Complete Elimination]

[Origin of Chaos]

In that instant, Oscar merely glanced over to Garett with a smile.

"What do you think you're doing, laying a hand on me like that, demon?"

[Notice: Entity does not exist. That which does not exist cannot be eliminated from existence.]

As this message appeared, the fist of Oscar slammed into the face of Garett, sending him flying backwards.

[Notice: Existing entity has landed an attack successfully.]

[Notice: Velocity of entity Garett has been labeled with indeterminacy.]

Garett flew backwards as he was punched, however he did not just fly backwards.

He flew backwards in all directions, his body being rapidly flung this way and that without any apparent ending to the throttling.

Garett was thrown about violently, his own trajectory changing with the drop of a dime as if physics were not a part of this world.

"Shit... shit shit shit..... hahaha..... HAHAHAH!!!!"

As he was flung about however, Garett begun to laugh, his own wicked expression distorting his face beyond recognition.

It was then that the baggy eyed spirit stepped forward, a look of complete irritation on her expression.

Her hair was a mess, and her green eyes twitched with annoyance.

"Enough, asshole."

Holding out her hand, energy filled the air.

This energy seemed to seep the very light from the world, creating darkness wherever it existed.

Suddenly, the entire world appeared as if it had become an abyss of nothing.

All except a sphere which surrounded the Indeterminant.

And within this sphere, Garett continued to bounce about like a ping pong ball, unpredictably being thrown around in violent manner.

"Tch..... shit..... my energy..... can't enter there....."

Veins spread across the green eyes of the demented spirit as she held out her hands, desperately attempting to pierce that seemingly invulnerable shield around the man known as the Indeterminant.

"Fuck..... fuck fuck FUCK!!!! LET HIM GO YOU ASSHOLE!!!!"

The spiritual girl was now trembling beyond comprehension, and her expression was one of complete desperation and madness.

Her hair frizzled about chaotically as if electricity pulsed through it, and her eyes became blue with energy.

"DIE!!!!!!", she shouted with madness, bringing down her arms.

However, nothing happened.

[Notice: Coordinates do not exist, therefore energy cannot enter.]

As this message appeared before the girl, her expression became one of shock.

She looked at this message, her mouth slightly opened, and then she looked up at the demon within that sphere who was being violently thrown about.

She held out a single hand towards him, and her blue eyes became green once more.

Even as she watched this demon, who laughed with demented expression as he was thrown about, her heart too felt as if it was being thrown about in the same manner.

Tears came to the darkened eyes of this spiritual monster, and she let out a quiet whisper.

"G..."

"Silence. Do you wish for him to be immediately slain?"

The one who said this was the elven figure, who stepped in front of Ashley, wielding his bow as he pulled it back.

"Speaking a name in this battle is the equivalent to giving in to defeat. He will not die so easily, yet we hold no way to defeat the enemy before us. This is a situation where victory is... impossible."

Arrows made from energy formed within the hand of the man, and he let out a confident smirk as he let the arrows fly.

"Yet even so..... that would only be if the condition of victory was to defeat this man ourselves."

The arrows shot forth, teeming with energy to light up even the infinite void of darkness, piercing through the skies before approaching the man in the center of the void.

The arrows hit the sphere which surrounded the Indeterminant with an explosion, sending energy rippling all around the sphere like electricity, at which Garett reached out his hand, sticking it just outside the sphere and coming into contact with this energy.

As he did this, Garett's left hand was pulverized.

[Condition has been stabilized. Trajectory has been determined.]

Flying out of the spherical zone of protection, Garett tumbled through the void, flying away from Oscar at an immense speed as blood sprayed from his hand.

"HAHAHA!!!! Thanks! Though I could deal without the damage.", he shouted.

"You are in no place to speak. I just saved your life.", Trevor responded.

The darkness which surrounded the group disappeared, and once more the landscape became the crater which once was the city of dwarves.

Garett landed with a crash, standing up and dusting himself off with his one usable hand as blood flowed from his other.

Rushing up to him, Ashley seemed to disappear from the space before appearing behind the demon, clinging to his neck.

"Hey..... hey..... are you ok???? Your hand..... your face... he... that man..... he....."

"Shh. This is nothing."

"Heal..... heal him!!!"

Turning to Samantha with a plea, Ashley looked over to her, demented obsession in her eyes.

"Alright alright. I got it. Here."

Holding out her hand with the roll of her eyes, a yellow healing light emitted from the hand which Garett had lost.

However, all of a sudden, the hand became a glitchy mess.

[Notice. State has been stabilized. Healing failed.]

"Hah?"

With this snort, Samantha looked to the message with a disturbed expression.

"Fucking heal already."

Holding out her hand once more, she tried again.

[Notice. State has been stabilized. Healing failed.]

It was then that it dawned on her.

"What the fuck. It won't fucking work."

"What do you mean it won't work?", Ashley whispered in a delirious tone.

Looking at his hand, which had now become a glitchy mess, Garett merely smiled as he chuckled to himself.

"Well shit. Looks like I gotto live without a left hand for the rest of my life. It was nice having one."

Holding out his right hand, Garett created a set of bandages from nothing, using his crafting ability.

Tying his hand with his mouth, Garett stood forth next to the other three, this time with a bloodthirsty glare in his eyes.

"Now he's really pissed me off."

"I wasn't even the one who did that to you, demon. You can thank your comrade for that injury, though it was because you exited my domain in such a rough manner that your hand is in that state of existence. However it doesn't matter, as soon enough your body will be in pieces."

Stepping forth, Oscar approached the four carelessly, complete and utter overconfidence in his expression.

"Your first and last mistake was thinking you could defeat the savior of humanity. I will show you demons over and over just how much of a mistake you made. Ah... but I suppose I should give you a chance?"

With a grin, Oscar put a hand to his chin, nodding with a smile.

"You should know now that you cannot win against me. So I will give each of you an option. But first..... let me ask you all a question."

Brushing his golden hair aside, Oscar looked down on the three with a horrid smile.

"You all were so rude when we first met, not even introducing yourselves. I was not even able to obtain your names. Allow me then to introduce myself. I am Oscar, the Indeterminant. Savior of humanity, and hero of nations. It is my duty to prevent monsters like you from taking over this world."

As Oscar said this, Trevor grinned, letting out a short chuckle as he stepped forth.

"How rude indeed it is of me to not introduce myself."

Taking an exaggerated bow, Trevor looked up as he pushed up his glasses.

"I am Theo, the Overlord of Exploitation. The ones around me are Sarah, the Empress of Captivation, Ally, the Archduchess of Calamity, and Gary, the Archduke of Entropy."

One by one Trevor introduced the four by their pseudo names.

"Together we form the antiheroes, the demon lords who serve under the Determined as Dictators of the monster realm."

As Trevor said this, Oscar begun to laugh.

"Heh... hahaha...Hahaha!!! Fool."

Holding his hand to his eye with a devious grin, Oscar looked down on Trevor with a mischievous expression.

"You all seem to be so ill informed about my abilities. Yet fools like you call yourselves demon lords, when you are unable to even plan that far? You've just spelled out your doom, elf."

Fixing his tie with a grin which was just as confident, Trevor looked over to Oscar without a hint of backing down.

"What ever could you be referring to, Indeterminant?"

"Hahaha!! How comical..... you truly don't understand at all. Then, allow me to show you the blunder you've just made. Theo..... or should I say, Overlord of Exploitation. There is a great amount of power which lies within a name. Let me show you firsthand this power. Ah..... but before doing that... let me make an offer."

Turning to Samantha, Oscar wiped his mouth, almost drooling over the gorgeous succubus.

"Woman. Come over to my side, and you will be spared of the fate which these other demons will hold. I may be a hero of justice..... but I can forgive even demons for their offenses. If you come with me, I will grant you everything which you desire and more."

Samantha then stood forward with a pleasant smile, looking around at her comrades before facing Oscar.

"Is that so? You will forgive me for even my existence as a demon?"

"Of course. After all..... there is good within everyone. Therefore even a demon such as you can come to terms with a hero such as myself."

Placing her hand to her chin, Samantha looked up in thought as if she was legitimately considering the offer.

"I do love a strong man. One who can take control and is more powerful than me. One who is brave, and willing to face any obstacle for the sake of what he believes in..."

"Is that so? Then leave those fools-"

"Is that what you hoped I would say?"

It was at that moment that the face of Samantha became one of complete disdain.

With a guttural voice, Samantha spoke as if she were looking upon a cockroach.

"I'll tell you what type of man I like. One who doesn't impregnate half the population."

Her face becoming that of a complete bitch, Samantha looked down on Oscar with visible disgust.

"I'd rather seduce a dung beetle than a shithead like you. Your mind is filled with so many lecherous memories that honestly I feel assaulted just being within proximity of you. Asking you to kill yourself wouldn't even graze how much pain I would like to see you go through, asshat."

Assaulted by the words of the succubus, Oscar looked at her with surprise at first, however this surprise soon turned to irritation as veins spread across the pretty boy's face.

"I see. So you have chosen death. Such a shame. The other one is far too ugly to become a member of my harem, so I had high hopes for you, succubus. Yet..... I suppose there will be other opportunities to try a demon out."

With a smile, Oscar begun to type a series of commands.

"The fact that you antiheroes were alive is quite surprising. I have to ask. How on earth did you survive the nightmare mode which I set on you so long ago?"

Having the commands typed in and preparing to hit the enter button, Oscar asked this final question.

"How did we survive the nightmare mode?", Ashley asked, her own irritation soon turning to a demented smile. "It was simple. We became nightmares ourselves."

At this response, Oscar looked up with a grin, laughing to himself.

"I see. Well then, goodbye, antiheroes. You have no place in the world that I will soon create."

[/kill Gary]

[/kill Theo]

[/kill Sarah]

[/kill Ally]

[Notice: Entities do not exist. Names unregistered.]

As Oscar hit enter to these commands, this notice appeared before him, causing him to look up with surprise.

"Hm..... what's going on?"

"Did you believe for even a second that I would approach someone as dangerous as you without understanding the risks and making preparations beforehand?"

The elven figure spoke with complete confidence, chuckling to himself as he fixed his coat.

"Did you think for even a moment that I would be as careless as to directly spill the one weakness which would allow you to defeat us in an instant?"

Pushing up his glasses, the man held out his arms with complete arrogance.

"I am the Overlord of Exploitation. Did you believe that we spent months in this world twiddling our thumbs, only to carelessly approach you without understanding everything we could?"

The elven man begun to laugh to himself, slicking back his black hair as another vein burst in the head of Oscar.

"I would never make such a careless mistake. For everything I have done from the moment of my birth... was correct."
