Under the Veil of Night

In the City of Crime, one law stands above them all: Only the strongest can live. Fighting is normal, extortion is common, and death is inevitable. Born into a wealthy family yet forced to live in poverty, Kanae Nali vowed to become strong enough to take back what rightfully belonged to her—even if it meant that she had to face the consequences and brave the dangers lurking in every corner. Yet on the outside, just like her mysterious peers, she was no different from the other high school students living their lives to the fullest. “Under the ray of light, my ability will only make me die faster. Under the veil of night, my ability allows me to survive longer.” ____ Story set in fictional city. Any similarities with real world's event is purely coincidence. A Challenge

Late at night, Kanae sneaked out of her room silently. She didn't even make the slightest sound as she walked out of the apartment. Years of practice caused her to become an expert in sneaking without a sound.

Evading the cameras, she ran outside towards the clinic. There, Shiro was busy reading a medical book when he heard a knock on his door.

"Oh, Kanae, what are you doing here?" Shiro was startled.

"The government bugged the apartment with listening devices. I don't have any other choice but to sneak out," Kanae answered helplessly. It was not her intention to disturb her friends, but she didn't have any other choice.

Shiro's eyes narrowed when he heard that. "You're quite reckless. You shouldn't participate in the group's activities for the time being. They might find out about you being in a group."

"They won't," Kanae stuck out her tongue. "I will never let them know something as important as this."
