CHAPTER 1.7: Prophecy

"Mother?! Mother!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I looked for my mother in each corner of the house. I can feel it. I can feel my magic losing its control again. It is happening all over again. Along with my jumbled emotion, it is getting worse by the minute.

"Andrea? What's wrong? Why do you look like you're in pain?" My mother, who I have been looking for, is finally in front of me. Without answering her questions, I ran towards her and hugged her. Only with her warmth can I feel at ease.

"No wonder you and Marcus are so overprotective of me. I still like a child." I mumbled, but it was enough for my mother to hear it.

"Andrea, tell me what happened? What made you almost lose control of yourself?" As soon as she asked that, I told her what had happened from the beginning to how I ran away from that woman. Seeing that my mother has not said a word, I look at her face and notice that she is stiffened and lost in thoughts.

"Why are you not saying anything?" I asked. It is unusual for my mother not to say anything, especially if it is about me. As soon as she heard me, she broke off from her thoughts. What was she thinking so deeply about?

"You… you don't believe that fortune teller's words, right, Andrea? Out of all people, you should know better than to believe them. They are a fraud, and everything they are saying is false." She held both of my shoulders tightly. Of course, it did not hurt me, but she has never been like this with me. The way she is talking to me is making it look like she is hiding something from me. I can not stop thinking about that. What is she hiding?

"You're acting unusual just now. What are you trying to hide, Mother?" I know my mother better than anybody else in the world. Whenever she acts like this, I know that something is going on, or she knows something that she does not want me to know.

"Trying to hide? Andrea, why would I hide anything from you?" All I can say right now is that I am disappointed in my mother. If she is going to say that, she might as well make it look believable.

I wanted to say more but was interrupted by a maid announcing that Marcus had arrived. He came at the wrong time. I sighed, and for now, I will let this matter slide. Marcus is my priority right now, and I can't get anything out of my matter anyways.

"Tell him to make himself feel at home while I make tonight's dinner."

"My lady, you don't have to do that. The head chef can make it for you, and there is no need for you to tire yourself out." The maid worriedly said,

"Don't make me repeat myself." Everyone in this house knows that there will be times that I like to make food myself, and I do not want to be disturbed because it is my way to distress myself from everything that is bothering me. However, looking at her, I can tell that she is new and know nothing about me. Perhaps the head maid did not let her know about this side of me. Of course, I understand her reaction. After all, no noble lady in the Land of Deimos would dare enter the kitchen and cook themselves. Those who are not part of the aristocratic society will only think that the noble ladies are pampered princesses and know nothing of housework.

"Let my daughter do what she wants." My mother said and left with the maid. I watched my mother's back as she walked away from me. I'm not particularly eager to put my nose to where it does not belong, but I cannot walk away from this matter for some reason. Something inside me tells me to follow what that fortune teller is saying. Find the truth. That is what she said, and she also said find the cottage where my first clue is.

After dinner was made and everyone had their fill, Marcus pulled me to the other room and started talking to me seriously. "I know why you invited me for dinner, Andrea, and you know that this will not change my mind. Though, I must say that it was a nice attempt. You don't know how much I am craving the food these days."

"That was the intention initially, but now I'm not bothered by how we ended our conversation earlier. I'm more concerned about what my mother is hiding from me." From the beginning to the end, I told Marcus about what happened.

"No wonder I felt the awkwardness between you and Aunty." Marcus stared at me. It seems like he's contemplating on something and knowing him. He might suggest helping me find the cottage that the fortune teller is talking about. "Do you believe that lady? About the cottage?"

"I…" being asked that question, I know that deep inside, what she is saying is true, but the rational side is telling that it's a waste of time believing in something I am not sure of. "With the way my mother is acting, I want to believe that it is true. The truth about my parents' death. Marcus, I am not sure on which path I should take."

"I can't tell you which path you should take, Andrea. You're the only one who can make such a choice. It's your life." Marcus is right. I am the only one who can make this decision. Should I believe in my mother and wait for her to tell me herself? Or should I go and find answers for myself.
