Chapter 1: Teacher Chiron, I’m Dropping Out!

Age of the Gods, Greece.

In a secluded forest clearing, sunlight pierced through the trees, illuminating a quaint wooden cottage. Within, the centaur sage Chiron sat by a window, plucking the golden strings of his harp. The soothing melody harmonized with birds chirping and the rustling of leaves outside.

Knock knock.

The rhythmic sound interrupted the peace.

Chiron's hands paused on the strings, and he calmly called out, "Come in."

The door creaked open to reveal a boy, no older than ten, with golden hair and piercing blue eyes. Though young and somewhat boyish, his gaze held a spark of determination.

"Teacher Chiron," the boy said with a polite bow, his voice steady yet hesitant.

Chiron smiled warmly. "Jason, have you come to share your decision from last night?"

Jason hesitated, then took a deep breath. "Yes, Teacher Chiron. I've made up my mind. I… want to quit!"

The harp's strings twanged as Chiron's hand slipped. His expression froze.

"You… want to quit?" he repeated, his serene demeanor giving way to confusion.

Jason nodded. "Please allow me to drop out, Teacher!"

Chiron rubbed his temples, visibly struggling to maintain composure. "Jason, if I'm not mistaken, you pledged your dedication to becoming a hero just last week. You said no matter the challenge, you'd persevere. Was I mistaken?"

"No, you weren't," Jason admitted, scratching the back of his head. "But that was last week. This is now."

Chiron's eyebrow twitched. "Then tell me—what changed so drastically in seven days?"

Jason sighed. "It's my name, Teacher. Jason. That name is cursed!"

"…Cursed?"

"Yes! Jason—the Jason who led the Argonauts, betrayed Medea, and ended his life as a tragic has-been. That Jason!" Jason's voice grew louder as he spoke, his frustration pouring out. "Teacher, I know how this story ends. Heroes don't live happily ever after! And I… I just want to live a quiet, peaceful life!"

Chiron blinked, stunned into silence.

Unbeknownst to Chiron, Jason wasn't just a normal boy. He was a transmigrator—a college student from the modern era, thrust into this mythical world with no warning. Upon learning his "new identity" as Jason of Greek legend, he had spent sleepless nights dreading his future. Betrayals, heartbreak, and tragedy? No, thank you!

Chiron cleared his throat, attempting to regain authority. "Jason, this is nonsense. Heroes are blessed by the gods, admired by all, and live fulfilling lives. Surely you understand the honor in such a path."

Jason groaned. "Teacher, with all due respect, I don't want 'honor.' I want peace! Besides, becoming a hero is just asking for trouble! I'll pass, thanks."

Chiron massaged his forehead, clearly losing patience. "Jason, you have extraordinary potential. With my guidance, you could be one of the greatest heroes Greece has ever known! Think of the glory, the admiration, the…"—Chiron hesitated—"attention from the fairer sex."

Jason's eye twitched. "Teacher, are you trying to curse me?"

Chiron frowned, realizing persuasion wasn't working. "Enough. I will not approve your request to quit."

"Why not?!" Jason protested.

"Because I see a hero in you, Jason," Chiron declared, his tone resolute. "You will thank me one day."

Jason's shoulders slumped in defeat. But as he left the cottage, an idea began to form.

[System Annotation: New plan initiated. Objective: Avoid becoming a hero at all costs.]

Jason grinned to himself. "If I can't drop out, then I'll just fail so miserably that Teacher has no choice but to let me go."

A few days later, Jason found himself deep in the forest alongside Hercules, his senior under Chiron's tutelage. The towering teen, already six feet tall despite being barely sixteen, readied his bow, two sharp arrows notched against the string.

Jason crouched beside him, watching as Hercules aimed at two unsuspecting deer grazing by a brook.

Twang!

The arrows flew true, striking both deer simultaneously.

"Whoa, Brother Hercules, that was amazing!" Jason clapped enthusiastically.

Hercules rubbed the back of his neck, sheepishly accepting the praise. "It's nothing special. With practice, you could do it too."

"Thanks, but no thanks," Jason replied with a grin. "You're the future hero here. I'll just cheer you on from the sidelines."

Hercules frowned. "Jason, you have potential. If you just tried, you could surpass even me someday."

Jason waved him off. "Not interested. Besides, didn't we agree? When you become a great hero, you'll protect me, right?"

Hercules sighed, clearly exasperated. Convincing Jason to take his training seriously was proving to be an impossible task.

Jason, however, had other plans. "As long as I avoid doing anything heroic, I should be safe. No prophecies, no divine quests—just a peaceful life as the ultimate background character."

Unfortunately for Jason, the gods above had other ideas.
