Chapter 42

TW// Violence, blood, mention of death

When Elias woke up, he was still sitting on the window ledge. It was just before the dawn. Elias pulled his coat closer to him. He spent the whole night there, away from the fire. He looked over the room, hoping to see Tivon somewhere near him. But he wasn't there. Elias looked down. I should apologize.

He sighed and prepared to go to him when he noticed something moving in the corner of his eyes. He looked through the window to the meadow. There were six figures dressed in black, riding their horses towards them. Eliass pupils widened. He didn't think, he just grabbed his swords, ran downstairs and screamed. »We need to go. Now!«

He woke up Rea, who looked confused, trying to wake up. »What?«

»They're coming!«

Rea was on her feet in no time. Elias opened the door and burst out almost causing Tivon to have a heart attack.

»We need to go.« Said Elias, grabbing the bag and putting it on the horse. Rea ran out of the house and went to untie their horses.

As Tivon was mounting his horse he asked. »How did the royal army find us this quickly?!«

Elias joined him and looked over his shoulder. The group of six were almost at their feet.

»It's not the royal army.«

»Go!« Screamed Rea and they moved their horses. Elias had to grab Tivon so that he didn't fall off.

»It's The Green Woman!« He screamed.

»Even worse.« Cried Tivon.

Elias grabbed his knife. He turned around and threw it into one of the man, hitting him in his shoulder. The man fell off of his horse. Rea looked over her shoulder to see the position of the five remaining guys. She then looked before her and steadied her horse. She took one arrow and drew her bow, hitting another man in the thigh. It slowed the man down, but he still managed to caught up with the team. Rea quickly grabbed the reins and quickened the pace.

Elias looked in front of them, trying to find something that might help them. Tivon looked behind them.

»Why the hell is The Green Woman after us?«

»Last time I checked you killed her sister and I killed her personal guards. And sabotaged her house.« Screamed Elias.

Something passed Eliass head.

»What was that?« Asked Rea.

She turned to see one of the men holding a slingshot, firing rocks at them.

»Shit.« Said Tivon and grabbed the reins tighter, forcing his horse to go faster. Elias and Rea tried to avoid the flying rocks.

»We should g-« Said Tivon before a rock hit the side of his head knocking him out.

Elias managed to grab him in time. »Tivon!?«

He wasn't responding. Rea looked over her shoulder.

»Shit.« She moved her horse to the right. »Elias this way.«

Elias grabbed the reins with one hand and with the other he held Tivon tightly. He followed Rea. The forest became more cramped with trees. It was harder for them to see the army, but because Rea knew the terrain they managed to shake off the army.

Suddenly the terrain changed into a rocky cliff, high up from the sea. Rea had to forcibly stop the horse, pulling the reins towards her, so she didn't fall down from the cliff. Elias couldn't stop the horse in time, causing it to hit Reas horse. Elias and Tivon fell off the horse. Reas horse slipped off the edge and Rea just barely managed to grab the edge of the cliff.

»Rea!« Screamed Elias and in the same second he could see blood dripping down from Tivons head. He's hurt. Tivons hurt.

He looked back at Rea, struggling to hold the edge, her breathing hysterical. She looked down to see the sharp rocks peeking out of the sea. It was a long fall. Her hand was slipping, and for a second she was ready to let go. She was ready to meet death.

Elias launched himself forward, grabbing Reas hand, just in time. He pulled her back on the rock-head. She was trying to catch her breath while Elias picked up Tivon, seeing to his wound. In the distance they could hear the army approach.

Rea looked back in the forest. She walked this woods a thousand times. She knew that there was a big hollow tree trunk, covered in moss, big enough for someone to hide in. She looked at Elias. »Take Tivon and hide in the forest. There's a hollow tree where you can hide.«

»What about you?«

»You need to save yourself.« Screamed Rea. She took a breath. »You need to get away. I'll slow them down.«

»I-I can't go without you-«

Rea grabbed her moon necklace and pulled it off. She put it in Eliass hand and looked him in the eyes. »If I can't do anything else, at least I can save your lives.«

She smiled and grabbed the horse reins.

»Rea!«

She grabbed her bow and looked at Elias, who was still sitting on the ground, holding Tivon and looking at her.

»GO!« She screamed as she moved her horse back from where they came from.

Elias grabbed Tivon and ran into the forest.

Rea took one last look over her shoulder to see if Elias listened to her. She then took her arrow and looked forward. She could see them approaching her. Rea didn't stop. She ran straight at them. She closed her eyes and breathed in and out. She drew her bow and opened her eyes. She fired and managed to hit one guy. Before they could notice, Rea took another arrow firing it again. She passed through them, taking another arrow and turning to fire again, hitting another guy.

But one caught up with her, putting his sword into Reas horse. The horse fell down with a cry, throwing Rea off. Her bow fell out of her hand. Reas body hurt from the impact of the fall, but she quickly managed to pull herself on her hands and reach for her bow. Just as she grabbed it, a black boot stepped on it. Rea looked up and a jade dragon mask looked down on her.

»Not so fast princess.« He said with a cold voice and then something hit Rea behind her head and she lost consciousness.

Elias was running in the forest, trying to find the tree log Rea was talking about. I should go back and help her. He gripped the necklace and Tivon tighter. I need to help her. He slipped down a hill and looked to his left, where he saw the moss covering the tree. That must be it.

Suddenly he heard someone running behind him. He didn't think to look behind his back, he just moved the moss and hid himself with Tivon into the tree trunk. He tried to calm his breathing, as someone slipped down the hill. Elias put a hand over his mouth, standing still as a rock. He could see a person moving in front of the log, looking for them. Don't breathe, don't breathe, don't breathe. Eliass vision started to blur. Just leave. The man turned around again and then left. Elias put down his hand and breathed.

He looked down at Tivon. He leaned his head to his chest to check if he was still breathing. A rock rolled off his shoulder when he heard Tivon breathe. Elias hugged him closer. He looked at the necklace in his hand. She sacrificed herself to save us. She did that so save us. Elias clenched the necklace and closed his eyes.

Why would you want to save me? After what I said to you. He knew that he would never be able to take back what he said. He moved the moss away and stepped out, looking around if the men was still close. He moved towards the sea shore as the sun rise upon him. He was still thinking about Reas sacrifice. Elias could only hope that he would have the chance to apologize to her.

Two of the masked men dressed in black entered a room with smoke-filled air. They bowed down in front of the desk.

»My lady we caught someone, but unfortunately we lost two of ours and one is wounded.«

Luana turned around, inhaling in her quellazaire. »Someone? There should be three.« She said with an angry voice.

The two men bowed down even more. »We are deeply sorry. Two of them managed to get away.«

»Don't tell me that it was Elias and the boy.« She sighed.

»We are sorry, my lady.«

»Bring her in.« She said sharply.

One of them opened the door and the third person pushed an unconscious Rea on the ground, her hair loosened, hands tied together.

The Green Woman stood up and walked in front of the table. She inhaled in the quellazaire and let out a puff.

»You won't fit in my houses.« She smiled viciously. »But that doesn't mean I can't have a little fun with you.«
