CHAPTER NINE

The day of the scholarship exam finally came...

It was past 6:am and Ivy was still in bed, and her exam was slated for 7:am. She was still having her cool bed rest, until Alvin disrupted everything.

"Ahhhhhhhh" she screamed when she felt droplets of water on her body. Alvin just poured water on her.

"So you really don't plan on writing this exam?" Alvin scoffed, placing his hands on his waist aggressively, and staring into his sister's eyes.

"Oh Alvin, what is it by the time?" She asked robbing her eyes sleepily.

"It's 6:24 am" Alvin growled.

"Shit!" She exclaimed as she quickly threw the blanket off her body, and jumped out of bed right into the shower.

Alvin watched her as she fled into the shower and then he shook his head.

"This girl does not want continue her schooling" he sighed before walking out of the room.

Ivy took her bath quickly, and ran out of the shower, she checked the time and it was 6:30. Next, she quickly rushed to the wardrobe and starting searching for what to wear.

Her eyes kept searching until it found a black jean trouser, and a blue colored crop top.

She quickly put them on and she wore a black sandals to go with, she packed her hair in a ponytail, looking all simple and beautiful. And in a swift, she was running down the stairs.

"Good morning mom, good morning dad" she greeted sharply. They were all having breakfast at the dinning table.

"Morning baby, how was your night?" Her mother asked cheerfully, and ivy just simply nodded.

"Join us for breakfast honey" her mom added.

"Her exam is slated for 7:am, she's extremely late already, can't you see!" Her dad half yelled.

"Yes mom" she nodded in agreement.

"I know, but just have something at least" her mom pleaded.

Ivy looked at her and gave a tired sigh before reaching for a tea cup. They were having hot tea and bread buns that morning.

She poured herself a little quantity of tea, and then she took a large bite from the bread buns, before taking a sip from the tea.

"Bye mum, bye dad, bye Alvin" she rushed her words, dropping the teacup carelessly. And then she dashed out of the house, with her mini purse hung around her shoulders.

Her mommy watched her leave, and then she shook her head.

"Lord please help my baby" she muttered.

Madison happened to be writing on the same time and same venue as Ivy. So she and Ivy were supposed to go together.

She woke up as early as 5:am that morning to prepare for her examination.

She was fully prepared for the examination. She was putting on a brown colored mini skirt, a purple colored singlet, and then she wore a black jacket over it.

She was putting on a long brown boot to go with, and she let her hair fall freely to the back.

By 6:am she was all ready and set to leave without even giving Ivy a call.

"Mum! Dad! I'm off" she yelled from the sitting room and walked out of the house, without even waiting for a reply.

"This is going to be the best" she whispered to herself.

Although she has been doing this for the past three years, but something in her kept telling her that this one was special. She had a feeling that she was gonna get into Crestfield this year, and she believed strongly in it.

She saw no use in giving ivy a call since they were gonna meet at the venue, so with that she happily left.

Madison got to the venue, and saw lots of students present, it was about 6:30am and Ivy was yet to come.

Madison has always been the late comer, but in this, reverse was the case.

It was 7:am at the dot, and examination officers came together, and Ivy was yet to come. They called all the students together and began accessing them, and all this process was carried out without Ivy's presence.

Madison couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with her.

"What is keeping Ivy till this moment?" She asked herself.

"Well whatever it is, she's gonna get here, she is not a baby" Madi convinced herself.

But when they began calling them by their various numbers, she got scared and had this serious urge to give her a call.

Deep down she wanted to know where she was and what she was doing, so she could inform her of the current situation. But she quickly resisted the urge, as she never wanted her to write anyway.

They were still calling numbers, and it soon got to her turn.

"Number fifty four" the examiner called out loud, and immediately, she answered her number and went to take her seat.

They kept calling numbers, and when they got to number 77 they got no answer, it was Ivy's number.

"Number seventy seven" they called again, but there was still no response.

"Number seventy seven? Isn't that Ivy's number" she gasped.

And after calling for some more time without any response, they decided to skip the number. They called the other numbers until gradually the hall became filled up, everybody supposed to be there was present, except Ivy.

It was then it dawned on Madi that Ivy isn't really sitting for the examination as she claimed, and that made her feel happy and fulfilled. It's nice that Ivy wouldn't be taking the exam again.

**************************************************

Minutes later, immediately the examiner told them to start, Ivy rushed into the hall, her breath unsteady and she placed her hands on the examiners table for support. It seems as though she has been running for ages.

"Excuse me miss, what are you doing here?" The examiner asked looking at Ivy in a confused manner.

"I have exams here sir" she counted her words, panting heavily.

"No I don't think so, this hall's for student who are writing by 7:am" he explained.

"Yes sir, that's my exam time" she answered Sharply.

"Are you sure?" The man asked with furrowed brows.

"I am sir" she nodded severally, and by now so many students were watching the drama going on, including Madi.;

"And what is it by the time now?" He asked calmly.

"It's 7:20am" sir, she responded.

"So since you claim to have exams by seven, why in God's name are you coming by this time?" He asked in an unfriendly tone.

"I'm sorry sir" Ivy mumbled.

"You're sorry? Really?" He huffed, and Ivy just blinked.

"What is your name?" He questioned.

"Ivy Crownway sir"

"What's your examination number?"

"It's seventy seven sir" she responded again politely.

"I have great pity on the type of generation we have now" he eyed her hatefully and continued speaking.

"You have exams by 7:am, and this is when you got here. It's so clear you think this is a joke, this is a life time opportunity"

"So you think you can get into Crestfield with this nonchalant attitude of yours!" He barked, and by this time all the students were already watching.

"Here! You can go and have your seat" he scoffed.

"Thank you sir" she muttered before walking away.

Deep down Madison felt so disappointed to see her, she was already satisfied with the fact that Ivy wasn't gonna show up.

But all the same it doesn't matter, coz she's already burnt the midnight candle. She is so certain of the fact that with or without Ivy, she's gonna pass this examination.

On the other hand, students kept watching Ivy as she walked to her seat, even after sitting, they still won't take their eyes off her.

Jeez she've never been so embarrassed in her life before, she felt so embarrassed.

"So how was the exam?" Madi asked as they both walked on the road.

They were done with their exams, and were just busy taking a stroll home.

"It wasn't that bad, how about yours?" Ivy asked tiredly.

"Oh mine was fantastic, I was sure of every single word I wrote" she boasted.

"Really? That must be nice" Ivy remarked, and she released a proud smile.

"Anyway let's just hope for the result" Ivy shrugged.

"Yeah let's just hope it comes out real soon, I'm so certain I'm gonna be among the lucky three this time" Madi announced with confidence.

"Waohhh easy girl! Enough of the self confidence, let's just go get something to eat now, I'm famished. I did not have breakfast this morning" Ivy said sharply.

"Yeah, because someone chose to get out of bed late" Madi teased.

"Yeah, go on, I know you're gonna mock me with my condition" Ivy rolled her eyes.

She had gisted Madi all that happened that morning, and why she came late. Now, Madi would not allow her rest.

"Rest? Really? Just wait until Davina hears this" Madi chuckled.

"Oh no, you're not gonna tell her" Ivy shook her head.

"Oh yes I will"

"You wouldn't dare"

"Watch me" Madi laughed and began running far away, while Ivy was chasing her from the back.

"Madi you're such a witch" Ivy screamed as she kept chasing her.
