While enjoying his evening with Jane, a knock sounded on the door and informed them that Aro was calling for them. They put on their cloaks and headed towards Aro.
Arriving in the chamber they stood on the sides and waited to know why they had been called. Surprisingly, Edward came through the door, his eyes looked dull and dead.
"Oh my Edward have you finally decided to join us?" Aro said with his usual benign smile.
"I want you to kill me." Edward said not even taking into account that somebody was talking to him.
"Ah, my apologies Edward. But we can't do that. You see, you are way too precious and way too useful to die in vain. Instead why not live for Volturi."
Edward only heard that they couldn't kill him the rest fell on deaf ears. He got angry and smashed his fist on the floor but none of the Volturi members flinched even a centimeter, they had seen such a sight too many times to count. Angry vampires who broke laws often didn't go down without resisting. And tried to cause trouble.
Seeing that they still had no intention of attacking him Edward spat out, "what if I break a law?"
Aro raised his eyebrows, "well then we'd have no choice but to deal with you then. After all, breaking the law must be punished no matter who does it."
Edward nodded and sped off. Aro signaled towards Felix to follow him and do what would be necessary if the situation arises.
After a few hours the rest of the Cullens arrived but instead of coming to talk they started to make trouble as they believed that Volturi had already killed Edward. The Cullen's were outnumbered and overpowered quickly and locked up.
Simon used his power as a guard and got Jasper out of the dungeons. He took him to his house and started to talk to him.
"Why are you being so foolish? Making trouble for the Volturi when you knew you could be killed so easily? Has drinking animal blood make your brain shrink?"
"He's my family, Simon. If he died then I should at least do what I can to avenge him."
"Living so peacefully with the Cullens has really made you stupid. You didn't even bother to check whether he was alive or not. If I didn't know you any better I would've thought that you were a suicidal maniac."
Jasper looked shocked, "so he's still alive?"
"For now." Simon nodded.
"What do you mean?" Jasper frowned.
"He came here to request for his death, Aro refused him. Now he's probably going to go break some law and with Felix on his tail he'll die without a doubt."
"Let me out. I'll talk to him about it, I'll try to talk some sense into him."
Simon shook his head, "I am already compromised with getting you out of the dungeons anymore and they'll be after me next thinking I helped you all in the attack on Volturi."
"Then delay him somehow until Alice arrived here."
"I can't, like I said with Felix tailing him any involvement is not possible. This is not like your happy go coven, it's a dog eat dog coven where everyone is desperate to tear you down." Simon looks at the time, "let's go you still need to be locked up. I'll take you to a better place than the dungeons you were in."
"No take me back there, I need to tell this to the others."
After arriving at the dungeons, Simon whispered, "don't do anything stupid. I'd hate to kill you." And walked away.
The next morning it was St. Marcus day the only day when humans were allowed to enter Volterra.
Edward appeared in one of the corridors that led the way out in the open. Simon, Jane and the rest of the Volturi were watching this scene. Felix following closely behind Edward not even bothering to mask his presence.
Edward walked towards the light, opening his robes and ready to embrace the sunlight which would make his skin shine and reveal his identity as a vampire.
Just before the light could reach him a girl with black hair ran towards him and tackled him down, making him avoid the light and slide into the corridor.
Aro spoke, "Simon, Jane bring them here."
