Chapter 6

Have you ever had that feeling when you meet someone for the first time in your life and your like; - Me and her are going to be best friends.

Well, if you've had that, then you should know that there is every likelihood of her not talking to you talk less of not being your friend, and you would be stupid to think that something was going to happen based on your premonition or your...gut feeling

Life surely knew how to mess with someone as often times your greatest expectations never actualise or amount to anything

To me, what this meant was that as I stood in the hallway just outside the clinic's entrance, I was entirely and completely ....stupid

✨. ✨. ✨

Stella was Draygon's daughter, she had her father's eyes but certainly not his physique, as any woman with Draygon's physique could boast of being a man. While Draygon was a tall, muscular, beast of a man, Stella was more ....my size.

She was petite with a slender figure, showing off her long legs as though the skirt she wore didn't already. She had long gold locks of hair that swayed as she sprinted towards me. Everything about her seemed so...perfect

" Hi I'm Stella, you must be Faith, nice to meet you" she said with an outstretched hand which I took

"Err....yes...nice to meet you. Stella" I said half enthusiastically

"I can't wait to know more about you, but before then-" she spun around dragging me in her cycle

"If we don't hurry, we'll be late for class"

We dashed hand in hand across the hallway stirring stares from students and staff alike.

But I didn't care, why?.

Because surprisingly feeling stupid felt good.

✨. ✨ ✨

Up until now, it was a mystery to me when trying to guess how long female chatter would last for and what topic would be discussed. Stella gladly provided the answer as well as the relief of conversation.

She was easy going, cherry and a tad bit wild. How I envied her, not her fair skin or her pointed red nose, no, I envied her confidence. Confidence which I knew myself to have exuded once upon a time but not anymore.

We talked on the way and as we settled in class- thankful for the first time, Mr Pontiff seemed to be running late.

We sat in the middle of the class, side by side as she gisted on the latest haps in GOC

" Have you heard about the Witching hour ball- I'm in the planning committee " she said with a smile

My facial expression alone told her my cluelessness on the topic

She sighed and said

" I've got my work cut out for me "

To which we both lightly giggled as more people had entered the class and eventually the 'main event' – Mr Pontiff made his appearance

Mr Pontiff was a shout but stout looking man with dark brown hair and thick glasses enough to hide the lines which frequented his eyes. Some say his divorce was the cause of it but my thoughts were of him being just that ...sad, thereby making everyone who had the misfortune of meeting him sad

Strong words right?, well half of it was experienced by me first hand owing to my stay here, while the other half was, although fantasizing, I'm not sure it was too far from the truth

He took his time getting in, surveying the faces which stared blankly at him as though surmising how many were present for torture.

Finally he strode past the door and unto his desk before setting down his briefcase and glasses atop it.

Not for once did his scrutinizing gaze evade them, even when pulling off his glasses...freaky

Clearing his throat he started

" Today we are going to be having an oral pop quiz on sigil's and symbols "

It was quite obvious that the torture had started, with the moans of displeasure and murmurs of complain surfacing in the once quiet class

" Enough!!" he shouted, fist raised

" A Witch is ever to be prepared for the uncertainties of his craft as any laxation would be detrimental "

"yes professor " a dark haired girl seated at the front row chimed in with a smile

" Let's begin"

✨✨✨

I stared at the girl who agreed with the Professor, Trisha was her name.

How could a name so beautiful belong to someone so senile and narrow minded.

I thought being a teacher's pet would hold no ground in a witch society but apparently I was wrong.

As in every community or settlement one always sought relationship with people of power to maintain a societal standing. Drumming it down it simply meant she was 'in it to win it'.

How further from me could it be. I had never, even as a child opted to gain such a ' relationship ' as my dad, my real dad, and not jack, before dying taught me two major things

The first being never to seek approval from society and the second being how to cook the best indomie.

✨✨✨

He scanned the classroom looking for the unlucky scapegoat, until he had spotted 'it' or rather 'her'

" Ms. Maxwell can you enlighten us on the primary aspects of a sigi?"

His phrasal was dry and without enthusiasm but his glare gave a different feel as though he was out for blood

"But sir-"

" I am quite sure that I didn't permit your speech Ms Cross and I do not intend to do so for the remainder of this class, so you would do well to hold your tongue"

Stella was promptly shut up, leave it to Mr. Pontiff to make the most shallow expressions hold new weight when the wording was changed

Inside I was feeling a strange sense of joy well up, was it because for the first time ever, someone stood up for me....no, maybe it was the contorted face Stella have before settling back into her chair

"So Ms. Maxwell answer the question "

I rose to my feet transfixed by the numerous eyes clinging to my person and surprisingly I was unperturbed, not by their curious eyes or their hateful stares. I just ....well, stood.

"The primary aspects of a sigil are the basics of the sigil giving rise to its foundation, for some, it may be runic signatures, for others it may be pentagrams, all of which constitute a surge and store for a witches spell"

As I narrated what I had read while in the library, the gasps and shocked expressions didn't escape my view, even Stella was surprisingly caught in the effect of a pause button with her raised eyebrows and gapping mouth.

"Anything else professor" I asked with an innocent smile seeing as he too was caught off guard

" er... No ... You may sit" he adjusted his glasses regardless of the need to

The stares soon disappeared as I say down then Stella whispered into my ears

"I daresay you and I are going to be best of friends "
