On a dark road under a cloudy night sky, with rain threatening to pour, a woman trudged along, her face marked with exhaustion. She had short black hair and striking orange eyes. Her skin, pale but healthy-looking despite her frequent junk food diet, gave her a certain charm. If she took proper care of herself, she could easily pass for a beauty that would turn heads. Tonight, she wore a black office suit, blending in with the gloomy atmosphere.
"Sigh What a day... I'm just glad I managed to finish that nightmare of a project on time. Ugh, my boss is such a moron! A surprise project with a three-day deadline? Is he serious? We haven't even wrapped up the last one yet, and he drops another on us! Ugh, I'm so ANGYYY! Grrrr!" she grumbled to herself.
This is Nayla, our protagonist.
As she walked, she spotted a convenience store next to a gas station.
"Hmm, maybe I'll grab something to eat," she muttered. "Hopefully, it won't start raining while I'm picking dinner. I'm too tired to cook… What should I get, though?"
While heading towards the convenience store, she passed the gas station. Suddenly, a loud crack of thunder roared, startling her.
BOOOOM
"AHH!" she screamed, covering her ears. In doing so, she dropped her bag, scattering its contents. Hastily, she bent down to gather her things, unaware that the thunder had struck a nearby tree.
The tree caught fire from the strike, and within seconds, it fell—right as Nayla was picking up her scattered belongings.
The burning tree crashed directly onto a gas tank at the station. The fire quickly spread along the tree's length, racing toward the tank.
As Nayla finished collecting her things, she smelled something burning. She straightened up, turned around, and froze. A fallen, flaming tree lay on the gas tank. Her heart pounded in her chest, panic gripping her as she watched the flames lick dangerously close to the fuel.
For a moment, she was paralyzed, her legs like jelly. Her mind screamed, RUN! but her body refused to listen. Finally, she managed to move. She sprinted away from the station, but her luck had run out. The gas tank exploded, triggering a chain reaction.
BOOOOOOOOOOOMM
Nayla squeezed her eyes shut, hoping that death, when it came, would be quick and painless.
In a vast, empty void, a small ball of light floated aimlessly.
"Ugh, where am I?" Nayla wondered aloud. "The last thing I remember was the explosion. Am I… dead? Is this one of those reincarnation things from the novels? Wait… hold on a second—WHY CAN I SEE IN 360 DEGREES? AND WHERE ARE MY ARMS AND LEGS?!"
Yes, this little ball of light was Nayla, who had indeed died in the explosion and found herself in this strange, featureless void.
"Okay, deep breaths. inhale exhale Let's stay calm. Right, so... is this the Void from all those novels? I always read that it's supposed to be pitch-black, but... why is mine so... colorful?"
Time passed, and after about an hour of floating, Nayla sighed.
"Alright, now what? I'm calm. So... where's the god, demon, angel, or whatever entity supposed to reincarnate me? Ugh, I hate waiting! HEY! ANYONE HERE? HELLO? IT'S COLD AND BORING—CAN SOMEBODY GET ME OUT OF THIS GODFORSAKEN VOID?!"
Nayla yelled into the void for two straight hours, but no one answered.
"I guess I'm alon—"
[Ding]
"Huh? What was that?" Nayla asked, her voice echoing in the void.
She frantically looked around, trying to find the source of the sound. Then, a second ding echoed through the void, followed by a message.
[Ding! Congratulations, Nayla! You've been chosen to participate in the Reincarnation Roulette! Would you like to spin the wheel and receive your reincarnation through our exciting new system? (Yes/No)]
A glowing blue box appeared in front of her, displaying the message. Nayla stared at it in disbelief.
"This feels... super shady. I thought I'd meet a R.O.B. (Random Omnipotent Being) granting me a wish or something. Instead, I get... gacha?!"
On Earth, Nayla was a single office worker, a job she never wanted to be stuck in. But the pay was decent, so she endured the soul-crushing grind. To cope with the stress, she escaped into novels, anime, and, of course, games—where her luck in gacha was abysmal. She had once spent hundreds of dollars for just one SSR character. (Her luck was incredible—in the worst way possible.)
Now, here she was, staring at a roulette that would determine her second life. And once again, her fate rested on... gacha.
"Okay, game and reality are different, right? I'm the first one to try this roulette, so maybe I'll get a good drop rate..." she said with a deep breath.
With some hesitation, she selected "Yes."
The screen vanished, and two giant roulettes appeared before her.
"So, two roulettes. One for the system I'll get, and one for the world I'll be reincarnated in. No descriptions, just numbers? Well, it's better than nothing," she muttered to herself.
She spun the System roulette first. After five long minutes, the wheel finally slowed down and stopped.
[Ding!!! Congratulations! You have obtained the Fiction Card System (Rank: ???)]
"A card system? And what's with that 'Rank: ???'? Is that good? For the love of snacks, please let it be good," she groaned.
"Sigh No point in overthinking it. Time for the second roulette," she said, spinning the World roulette.
After another five minutes, it stopped spinning.
[Ding!!! Congratulations! You will be reincarnated into the High School DxD universe!]
[Ding!!! As the first participant in the Reincarnation Roulette, you have received an Epic Beginner Gift Pack! You can view the rewards in your system inventory. Your system will now be installed, and you will be transported to your new world.]
[Installing Fiction Card System... Please Wait...]
As the system installation began, Nayla's thoughts started to race.
"Okay, DxD universe... I know the plot, so that's good. But... what timeline will I be dropped into? Let's hope it's a few years before the canon starts."
She was still mulling over this when the system finally completed its installation.
[Installation complete. Preparing to send the host to DxD world...]
[Good luck on your journey, Nayla!]
As the final message appeared, Nayla felt herself growing drowsy. She yawned and drifted into sleep as she was transported to her new world.
