Both Leonidas' and Iris' monsters had become slightly bigger and were able to fight even though they were still at the first rank.
Luckily for them, the area that they were currently living in was in the middle of a forest that had monsters of ranks from one to ten residing in it.
Both of their 'parents' had agreed to let them go and train their monsters so they went out into the forest.
Leonidas had previously asked if they could feed their monsters an evolution material from a higher rank monster on their own. He found out that they could not do this if the material came from a monster more than one rank above the monster eating it. He was also told that it was better to let them fight and learn how to kill instead of just jumping up ranks by buying evolutionary materials. This was because even if it was a high rank, if it did not know how to use it's power then it would be useless.
While in the forest, they noticed that a lot of the monsters were just regular animals with a larger size but a few were actual monsters. Their summoned monsters were quite large but some of the enemies were bigger than them, especially the ones above rank one.
They walked around a bit an made their monsters kill other rank ones and took the evolutionary materials to feed them. The rank one evolution materials were effective but not all that great and their summoned monsters were completely ripping their enemies apart so they went to find some rank two monsters.
The rank two monsters were also just larger animals but stronger. The two summoned monsters found it quite easy to kill them but they were not as quick at doing it.
After killing a few and eating their evolutionary materials they reached rank two. They grew a bit larger and their abilities increased which meant they could go after rank three monsters.
Some of them were actually monsters but still not incredibly powerful. They were also only of use to the summoned monsters and not for Leonidas or Iris due to how weak the monsters were in comparison.
They killed enough monsters to get their summoned monsters to rank three and then they went back to their own houses as it was getting late.
Once they entered, both sets of 'parents' were amazed and had no idea how they managed to get to rank three in one day which normally took multiple weeks even for the most powerful of monsters.
The next day, they went out into the forest again and kept on killing monsters and ranking up levels.
With a bit of help from their owners, both summoned monsters managed to reach rank ten within around a week. However, this was just the beginning as there were people who had gotten their monsters to rank twenty. That meant that that Leonidas and Iris could reach above rank twenty themselves if they got further than the other people had.
They spoke to their fake parents and told them that they needed to leave 'home' so that they could make their monsters even stronger but they obviously did not tell them about getting stronger themselves.
They were sad to see them go which was strange to the two of them considering that they had not even known them for very long but for the families they had known them for years and years.
They were given some money to keep them going and they went off to through the forest and found themselves on a road with nobody on it for miles.
They started walking with their summoned monsters behind them. They had both grown a lot and were taller than Leonidas while being almost equal in size and quite terrifying, especially the Wendigo. While the Wendigo was terrifying, it was not as fierce or physically and defensively powerful as Leonidas' yeti.
They had named their monsters Styx (the Wendigo) and Migoi (the Yeti). The first name was obviously referring to the River Styx which is the boundary between Earth and The Underworld in Greek Mythology. The second name is what Yetis are called in Tibet and it translates to Wild Man.
While walking along the road, they spotted a group of people fighting against a large bear with their summoned monsters and went to see what was going on. The people seemed to be struggling against it so the two wanted to go and help out.
They told their summoned monsters to run over and defeat the bear as it did not have anything special about it.
Once they got over there, Migoi punched a hole through the bear's stomach and Styx ripped off its head.
The group of people started shaking as they thought that they would be killed next until Leonidas and Iris came over and told them that they were the owners of the two monsters.
They were very grateful for their help and wondered if there was anything they could do.
Leonidas explained that they needed to go to the nearest place with a National Dungeon.
They were told that they were in luck as there was one in the city to the east but that it was very difficult and had never been cleared before.
It would take a few days to get there though, so the group of people (who had previously explained to Leonidas and Iris that they were hunting for their village) offered to let them stay with them for a day or two so they could get supplies for their journey.
Although they did not really need to do this, they took the offer anyway.
The village was quite small and all of the houses were huts except one large one that was obviously home to the chief.
The group of people were a family so they invited them into their house, actually a small hut, and started preparing food.
