***It was quite a hot and radiant Thursday afternoon, three days after***
Bea sat at the long dining table beside Henry, munching on a salted Tuna fish. A variety of different types of food was placed around the table, with baskets of fresh fruits.
Bea and Henry's forks were clanking as they ate. Bea stretched her hand to her glass of water and took a drink.
"Henry, it's been three days, that nurse hasn't shown up, and Jacob...Jacob is unhappier than he was. I don't know, I don't know what I'm gonna do to make him feel alright, he keeps pushing me away. I'm so tired of worrying about his condition." Tears filled in her eyes.
"Let's just have faith in the nurse that she will make our son recover."
Jacob was wheeled from the garden outside to the living room. His eyebrows were slightly furrowed. The maid was wheeling him slowly towards the dining table.
A frown settled down on Bea's face, "yea, the nurse who has given up on our son. She hasn't shown up in days."
"We will double her pay. There's no way that she's gonna resist the tempting pay. That way, she won't give up on our son."
Jacob glared tightly at them. He overheard them and signaled to the nurse not to wheel him to the table, and she halted.
"Go ahead dad, buy her attention, sway her with your wealth, but I don't need your pity or her pity. I don't want fake affection. Insisting for the nurse to stay, is not compulsory. If all she cares about is being paid then I don't need her at all. "
Bea exhaled and she walked to him, "Jacob does it matter if she only cares about the pay? All we want is for her to make you get better."
"Then why do you and dad wanna double her pay? You make it seem like I'm begging for her attention. No one is doubling her pay, no one is convincing her to come back to me. I will recover on my own, after all, I always take my drugs on time."
"But Jacob..."
"No mum!" Jacob yelled, "Just do as I say." the maid wheeled him from the room heading towards his bedroom.
Bea sighed, "gosh, Jacob is so stubborn."
"Don't worry, I will double the pay and the nurse will be here not less than an hour,'' Henry said and he sprang up from his seat.
"No!" Bea yelled, "don't. He said he doesn't want to be pitied.''
"I don't give a shit about his ego, I need him to recover quickly so he can resume his work at the company. Things are moving slowly, and we need his presence. We are slowly starting to lose clients because he is not on seat."
"Let's just give him some time."
"Fine, I'll give him a week and if he still hasn't recovered even just a bit, I'll be left with no choice but to persuade Darci to attend to him no matter the price she asks for," Henry said firmly and he stormed out.
Darci sat on the sofa beside Sonia her friend in the living room of her house. A wide plate of peanuts was seated on the table beside the sofa. Sonia and Darci picked up some peanuts and hurled them in their mouth. The two girls have peanuts or popcorns when gisting together while watching an intriguing TV show.
When Sonia comes for a sleepover at night, they hung together watching a Vampire thriller or a soap opera which felt exciting.
Sonia hurled some peanuts to her mouth, some flew past her face landing on the floor. Darci felt amused and let out a chuckle.
"Don't laugh, I almost got it. When are you going?"
Sonia looked into Darci's eyes, she felt quite confused, and asked, "going where?"
"Going back of course to Alonzo's mansion. Have you forgotten about your patient?"
Darci sighed, "I want to, but I don't want to. When I'm with Jacob, I feel so free and at ease that I find myself feeling so happy around him."
"So what's wrong with being too attached to him?"
"Cause I know that he only sees me as his nurse, and I don't want to get so close and get hurt."
"What makes you think that he just sees you as his nurse?''
"Cause he always wants me to help him out. I'm just an object to him, " Darci sighed, and tears poured out of her eyes, "I can handle it when the patients I attend, leave my life, but, not Jacob cause I think I'm starting to like him and I've never gotten so attached to him like my other patients."
They heard a loud banging on the door, and they shivered to feel startled. Darci wiped her cheeks and she sniffed, "who is it?"
They did not hear any response. In curiosity to know who it was, Darci sprang up to her feet, and she approached the door and pulled it open.
It was the Landlady, Margaret. Margaret stormed in frowning tightly at Darci, "it's four weeks now and you've not paid the house rent, or the water bills. Do you think that my house is a resort where I just accommodate to make you and your family feel so comfortable?"
"Exercise a little bit of patience Margaret, I'll soon be paid my salary."
Margaret smiled wildly, "oh yeah, I heard you work now as a private nurse for a big shot. So, when are you paying up...?"
"That's not your business Margaret." Darci frowned upon her, and Margaret furrowed her eyebrows.
"I am gonna pay you so please do not pester me," Darci softly said to her.
Margaret stormed outside and slammed the door.
