To Fight Off Sleep

A girl named Jamie finds herself in a comfortable home, but not her’s. She remembers being drugged by a tall, mysterious man, but nothing else. (This is an ongoing project, and I plan to try to write one chapter per day, so check in often to make sure to stay updated)

Chapter 1 : Coffee

"One iced coffee for… Ja-mee?"

I look up from my laptop and roll my eyes. You'd think that for one, pronouncing and spelling Jamie wouldn't be that hard, and two, making an iced coffee shouldn't take 45 minutes. I stand up and brush off the crumbs of a former bagel sandwich from my jeans and walk to the counter to get my "super complicated" iced coffee with cream and two sugars from the barista. I nod, give her a 5 dollar bill for the tip jar, and pack up my stuff to start the walk back to my dorm. When I walk out the door, a nicely dressed man with cologne that makes me want to inhale forever is standing with what looks like a small black coffee and a very new and shiny phone. Being an extrovert has had it's downfalls, but in this moment, it was the best quality I've ever obtained. I look at what he's scrolling through on his phone, only to see a brief glance of what looks like my instagram page, followed by the sound of a deep, growling voice attempting to make my acquaintance.

"Hey there, . . . Can I help you?"

"Hi! Yes, so sorry, that was really rude of me, I was just trying to make conversation-"

"By invading my privacy?"

"Well, by the looks of it, you might have been the one invading my privacy, good sir."

"Well then, miss investigator. How can I help you?"

"I just wanted to say Hi and possibly ask for your number?"

He chuckled, turning his phone back on and embarrassingly swiping away the tab that contained my stock pile of selfies and food reviews, looking for his contacts app. He pulls up his number and looks me in my eyes, as if to say he's ready to give me his info. Unprepared, I grab my phone from my bag and hurriedly open my contact list. He gives me his number, and tells me to call him later that evening. I felt myself become warm and freezing at the same time. I haven't felt this way before, but I can't complain. He walks away, giving me a small grin, and for a minuscule moment, I see a dash of sinister intent in his eyes.
