Chapter 34: Want

I had found a new love. It was music.

Once a week, I had my lesson. Then on the other nights, I went over to the mansion and practiced before Xander showed up and had dinner with me. It was a long commute, but it was worth it.

The arrangement made me feel like there was something still there within Xander that connected with me. Why would he spend so much time with me if there wasn’t?

***

This week, I was all alone. Xander had said he was out of town on business.

I found myself missing him terribly as the car picked me up after work and took me over to the large mansion for me to practice. The house seemed even larger and emptier when he wasn’t there.

Just as I worked on a very tricky spot of the musical score, I heard footsteps. I turned around to see Calvin in the doorway.

“You’re doing great, Suzanne,” he said as he entered the room and sat on a chair nearby.

I flashed him a smile. “Thank you. I haven’t seen you in a while. What’s up?”
