295— Han Leifeng Wants To Attend The Banquet

As if forgetting about the baby, the new parents went right back to what they were doing, stopping only when Su Qianhua tried and failed to hold back a yawn.

Philip got into the spacious hospital bed and held his wife. "Sleep now, it has been an exhausting time."

"You'll be here with me, right?" She asked, already closing her eyes.

"You bet." Jiang Philip smiled. Today was hands down the happiest day of his life.

"Don't forget to inform Ranran. She'd be so happy." Su Qianhua mumbled.

"Alright, I'll call her."

"And we still haven't decided on a name."

"Don't worry about it. It won't be too late to name him when you wake up."

A few seconds later, see spoke again "How about Aiqian? Together, his name would mean you love me. Isn't that romantic? Aihua is too girly, and Aisu sounds weird, or what do you think?"

Jiang Philip shook his head, not wanting to imagine how much their son would hate them when he grew up for naming him in such a mushy way. He kissed her forehead, "Sleep Baby. You need that most of all. We'll talk about names later."

Silence for another few moments. Just when he thought she was sleeping, her voice sounded, "Or should we give him an English name like yours?"

Jiang Philip hugged her to his chest and closed his eyes, "Sweet dreams Baby."

It was when she finally slept a few minutes later that he got up and went outside to meet the rest of the family, who had gathered around the newborn who was currently charming them as they teased him.

"Philip, come and look at him. His nostrils are just like yours when you were his age, and the eyebrows too." Kathy excitedly beckoned to him. It was her turn to hold the baby.

Jiang Philip rolled his eyes, "Mum, how do you even remember that?"

His father Jiang Aotian said, "Don't doubt anything your mother says. Her brain is terrific."

The parents teased the new father for a while before letting him off.

Jiang Philip then excused himself and phoned Pei Yueran to inform her about the arrival of her godchild.

Her excitement was exactly what he anticipated.

He smiled as she spoke excitedly and nodded when she asked him to call her back as soon as Su Qianhua awakened.

Ending the call, he looked back at the obsessed grandparents cooing and laughing, trying to keep his son's attention on them.

He shook his head. With so many people vying to shower love on him, their son was obviously on his way to being spoiled.

CM Luxuries in the Capital was as luxurious as ever, and Gao Tinghua felt like he could never get enough of it.

He was here this evening, this time not to escape the drama and tense atmosphere at home, but to meet a business partner. They didn't need to meet face-to-face, but he figured that he needed the distraction.

Across from him in the private room sat his business partner, Han Leifeng. Both of them sat indolently, each nursing a glass of cocktail and looking like they owned their respective sides of the room.

The atmosphere was not exactly weird, rather it was.... stagnant, as if you had to minimize your breathing so as not to run out of air. At least that was how their server felt. He headed for the door as soon as he finished serving up their drinks.

They stayed like that in companionable silence before Gao Tinghua broke it, "How's the project going?"

"Everything is ready. We only need to pick a date for the unveiling. How does next week sound?"

Gao Tinghua furrowed his brows, "It won't do. My family has an important event going on."

Han Leifeng nodded, "Yeah I heard something about it. Your sister's being introduced to society, right?"

Gao Tinghua acquiesced. Although the guest list was very small, he knew it was probably the hottest news going around now.

Han Leifeng hesitated for a while before saying offhandedly, "Am I invited?"

Gao Tinghua raised a brow. Since their business dealings began, Han Leifeng had never been this forward with him before. He was always indifferent and businesslike, never saying more than necessary.

They weren't exactly friends, but handling a project together had inevitably brought them closer to becoming so. "Why? Do you want to come?"

Han Leifeng nodded even as his face said he'd rather die than be there. It was that obvious because it was very different from his usual indifference.

Gao Tinghua was puzzled. Did he need to force himself to attend an event he wasn't even invited to?

"Were you asked to attend?" He asked euphemistically.

Han Leifeng nodded, almost painfully. His father and grandfather called him to the old house and after lots of hedging, told him he needed to get an invitation to the Gao family's banquet.

The reason they gave was to strengthen their business relationship, but their expressions hinted at something totally different. When he pressed further, they spilled.

He sighed.

Gao Tinghua thought for a moment and wondered aloud, "Your family put you up to this, right? But for what reason?"

"To see if I can marry your sister." Han Leifeng's deadpan expression definitely didn't look like that of a man that was looking forward to such a thing, but Gao Tinghua still choked on his cocktail.

"What?" He asked incredulously.

"You heard me right."

Gao Tinghua almost shivered. The Han family were trying to bite off more than they could chew. Their idea was sure beautiful, but so many things were wrong with it.

For one, and most importantly, his elder sister was already married. He didn't even need to try too much to imagine what her husband's reaction would be if he heard this.

But even if she weren't, his mother would never agree to let her marry into the Han family. He already knew that his mother harbored a lot of guilt regarding his sister, and she would want her to have the very best.

Needless to say, an illegitimate son didn't fit that description.

His mother was kind, but she was still a bit of a social snob, just like the others in their class.

Not to mention the fact that Gao Tinghua almost married from that family. The engagement ended on very bad terms, and his mother would likely not want to have anything to do with them again.

Anyway, it was just wrong on all fronts.

He spoke bluntly, "No offence, but that's impossible."

Han Leifeng made a sound, "Exactly." He had no such delusions that the Gao family would welcome him in as a son-in-law, so it didn't hurt to hear Gao Tinghua's words.

Trying to soften the blow, Gao Tinghua added, "I mean, I said that because my elder sister is already married."
