238 — Speaking To Gao Tinghua

Pei Yueran quickly begged, "No no, I believe you." If they had to continue to prove it, she would probably faint away ah!

To divert his attention, she asked, "By the way, why is there a bed in the gym?"

"For times like this."

Pei Yueran: "...."

He was such a conversation killer!

Seeing her face flush as she tried to move away from him in anger, he laughed and leaned down to kiss the star on her chest as he said, "Actually, it's not just a bed, it's a home gym that has an inbuilt power rack, as well as other equipment for working out at home.

"I originally had it customized for Xiao Chen's room, but he told me after a few days that he would prefer to exercise with me in the gym instead, so I just brought it here. Now it is finally serving an even better purpose."

Pei Yueran glared at him, but to Li Chuanmo, she looked coquettish instead. He was really tempted to continue, but he knew she could not handle any more tossing.

He felt bad a little bit. She had become even slighter and more fragile than ever before in his arms, despite his best efforts to make sure she ate and rested well.

Squeezing her shoulder lightly, he spoke as if making a plea, "Please always be healthy. I can't bear seeing you look so sick and frail."

Pei Yueran was already dozing off and didn't hear him properly, but she still let out a smile and murmured something as she sleepily patted his cheek.

After cleaning up and putting the gym to rights, Li Chuanmo scooped her up and carried her upstairs, so that she could continue her sleep uninterrupted and he could go and do some work.

As soon as he stepped into his study, he received a call from his archenemy.

As much as he didn't want to answer, he still picked it up after Gao Tinghua called three or four times.

"This had better be important, Mr Gao," was the first thing he said to him.

Gao Tinghua that had just wanted to greet him with "Brother-in-law", paused and smoothly changed his words, "I'm calling to ask if Chairman Li can make out time to meet me. I have some things to discuss with you."

Li Chuanmo wasn't very interested, but since he had a guess as to what Gao Tinghua wanted to say, he furrowed his brows as he agreed.

"Fine."

After dropping a time and place, the call ended.

An hour later, both men were sitting face-to-face on the first floor restaurant of CM Luxuries.

It was afternoon and many people were busy tying loose up ends at their workplace in time for the holiday, so the restaurant wasn't as crowded as was typical.

Still, some young female customers were discreetly trying to take pictures of the two handsome men. Although one face was colder than the other, it didn't detract from the appealing visual picture both of them painted.

Unfortunately, because of their location and the way they angled themselves, it was hard to capture their faces clearly.

Looking at the orderly environment and calm ambience, Gao Tinghua nodded approvingly. It seemed the owner of such a well thought-out hotel chain was really not simple.

"Are you here to talk or just to admire the scenery?" Li Chuanmo's cold voice that was particularly lacking even the tiniest bit of interest sounded while he was looking around.

Gao Tinghua came to his senses and quickly adjusted his posture, "I was just thinking that this place was well planned. Even the branch in the Capital is lacking a bit in comparison. It suggests that the owner is probably based here?"

The indifferent look on Li Chuanmo's face didn't change, as if he wasn't interested in this, "Maybe you should take your time admiring someone else's business while I leave. My Ran is still waiting for me at home."

Gao Tinghua gritted his teeth reflexively for a moment before he calmed down. He knew Li Chuanmo was just putting salt into his wound, but even if he knew, what could he do?

Putting aside the fact that the lady never liked him for one day, he now knew she was his sister. There was nothing he could do after all. Thinking like this, Gao Tinghua was a bit amused at Li Chuanmo's pettiness and ironically, it made him feel a little bit of closeness.

If Li Chuanmo knew what he was thinking, he would have rolled his eyes.

Gao Tinghua went straight to the point, "Chairman Li, I arranged a meeting because my mother is quite worried. She has not heard back from Mrs Li since that day, so I promised to find out if there is a problem. Is everything okay?"

Li Chuanmo didn't answer for a while, but eventually said, "She fell ill that day, and has been recuperating since then."

Gao Tinghua became worried. He didn't think Li Chuanmo had any reason to lie to me, which meant that his sister must have been very sick, "How's she now?"

"Getting better, but we've decided to talk about this matter later, when she completely recovers."

Gao Tinghua nodded, a bit distracted. He had already put aside the fact that they would not be able to speak to her for now. His mother would understand that. He just hoped she got better soon.

Li Chuanmo was already used to Gao Tinghua's slow roundabout way. He liked to beat around the bush with a minor matter instead of going straight to the main reason he came. But that didn't mean Li Chuanmo was planning to spend all day here.

"If that's all, goodbye." Li Chuanmo said as he rose up.

"Brother—Chairman Li, wait!" Gao Tinghua hurriedly called out. When Li Chuanmo sat down again, he quickly said, "Actually, the other reason for which I wanted to see you is still related to my elder sister. I'm sure you know already, but our family in the Capital is very complicated."

Li Chuanmo didn't respond, he just kept on looking at him. Emboldened, Gao Tinghua continued to tell him of the recent developments in their house, including the fact that his father knew about her whereabouts long ago, and that even his uncle was an accomplice.

Looking at Li Chuanmo's face that didn't even change, Gao Tinghua involuntarily felt a surge of admiration towards the man. Just that unfazed look showed his breadth of mind and hinted at his depths.

He continued to say, "The main problem now is the mysterious organization. They have lain low for sometime now according to my father, but their influence is still there. I want to propose that we work together to eliminate them altogether.

"In this way, the threat to Mrs. Li will be eliminated, and she can regain her rightful place in the Gao family without trouble."

S_J: (Shaking like a quail but trying to be bold) You-your threats do-don't work on me.
