“Anek.” Laura sought eye contact. When Anek’s gaze fell on her, he covered his teeth. Carlo huffed, apparently it was better with a woman. He stood and took a step away, to give Laura space. “Where are you hurt?”
Laura yelped as Anek wound his tail around her arm. For a moment he closed his eyes, then he moved his leg and tried to stand.
“Easy.” Carlo rushed forth and grabbed his arm. Anek snarled at him. “Seriously dude, I’m trying to help.” He glared at Brox and Ghurva. “Why aren’t you helping? Laura and I can’t lift him.”
Ghurva widened his eyes. “Erm…we usually don’t—”
“Yeah, I don’t give a fuck. Your friend is hurt, it’s time to put your psychopathy to the side and nourish your empathic side, okay?”
“We’re empathic.”
“Then it’s time to act on it.” Carlo nodded at Anek. “Carry him to the clinic. Do they have a clinic?” He directed the question to Laura, who had searched the ship.
She shook her head. “The canteen might be our best option.”
