Chapter Seven

I look up from my phone.

"Kim!"

I get up and raise my hand. The barista sees me and smiles. She brings over my cappuccino.

"Caramel, right?" she asks with uncertainty. "Sorry, it's only my second day."

"Oh, no problem!" I say, taking the mug. "And yes, it's caramel. Thanks!"

"Oh, great, thank you!" The barista smiles and walks back to the front counter.

I smile and shake my head as I take a sip from my mug. I pull out my phone and open Instaglam. I start scrolling. I suddenly stop. Tears fill my eyes.

I see a picture of Jackson. With his new girlfriend. I sigh, blinking away my tears. She's beautiful. She has nice, natural blonde hair, a cropped green shirt, short shorts and sunglasses. More beautiful than I could ever be.

I look over at the barista counter and gasp. Amy's here. Sh*t, why did I tell her I'd be here? I remember I wanted to see her.

I blink away my tears as quickly as possible and scroll quickly past Jackson's post. I act like I haven't seen her yet.

I glance over quickly at the barista counter. Amy nods and hands the barista money. She laughs and then starts to turn around. My eyes dart quickly back to my phone. I look up as Amy sits down next to me. She smiles and waves a little.

"Hi!" she says.

"Hey," I say, putting my phone face-down. I take a drink from my mug and smile at Amy.

"What's wrong…?" Amy asks, concerned.

"Nothing," I say. I take another sip of my cappuccino.

Amy makes a face.

"Okay…"

"How'd you sleep?" I ask after a moment.

"Great," Amy says. "I woke up around seven. I saw your note and got ready as quickly as possible." She smiles again.

I blush.

"You?" Amy asks me.

"Oh, yeah, same," I say. "I woke up around six and got ready and left around six forty-five."

Amy nods.

"Amy!" the barista calls, holding a mug in one hand a plate of something in the other. Amy raises her hand.

The barista (Claire, according to her nametag) comes to our table and sets down the plate and mug. Amy thanks her and waves politely. She takes the plate and gives me a brownie from it. She shrugs.

"I was feeling generous!" she says happily. I laugh and take it.

"Thanks," I say, placing it on a napkin.

Amy pauses, taking a sip of her coffee. "Okay, but seriously, Kim, what's wrong?"

I nearly choke on my coffee. I wipe my face and set my mug down. "Nothing, I already told you," I laugh a little, trying to get her to forget it. I look up. Her face is serious and determined looking. I frown. "Look, nothing's wrong, Amy."

Amy raises her eyebrows into her pink bangs.

I roll my eyes. "Everything's fine."

"Kimberly, you can tell me," Amy says.

I freeze.

She called me Kimberly.

Oh sh*t.

She's serious.

I sigh. I can't tell her about Jackson. I'm just… I don't know.

I shake my head. "It's stupid."

"It's not stupid if it ruins your mood."

"My mood isn't ruined," I say defensively.

I sigh. "I don't want to fight," I say, looking down.

Amy takes my hand. "I'm sorry," she says, sighing. "I should have left you alone…"

Amy leans back. She takes her mug and sips from it.

"I saw my ex and his new girlfriend on Instaglam, that's all."

Amy opens her eyes and looks at me. She puts her mug down. "I'm sorry."

I shake my head and smirk. "Don't be, it's not your fault. I'm just not over it yet…"

Amy smiles a little. "You might think it's stupid, but thank you for telling me anyway."

I roll my eyes. "Don't get all mushy with me, Amy!" I glare at her, but I'm smiling. She smiles.

We finish our coffee and leave Faraway. "I assume you drove?" I ask Amy.

"Actually, I walked," Amy says.

"Why?" I ask. "It's like, super far away."

Amy shrugs. "I wanted to drive back with you."
