Part 9

Opening day was upon us and I was late. I had woken up on time but I was running behind schedule. I don't like being late, ever. When I was done dressing, I decided to skip breakfast but I had juice just to keep my sugar levels up, we left the hotel for the opening together with our translators. We were all dressed to the nines, I was wearing a three-piece suit in black and blue, Blair was matching me with a black and blue ombre dress. Shaqueal and Adrianna were also dressed to match with black and red, but Adrianna wasn't wearing an ombre dress.

When we got to the venue there was a red carpet leading to the door of the hotel, paparazzi were out in their numbers, they were from multiple different countries. Blair and I got out first and walked to the stand with Shaqueal and Adrianna a couple of steps behind. We walked slow enough to allow the cameras to take all the pictures that they wanted and more. It was a big day for Hunter Hotels. 

"Good day Kobe, Japan. It has been a wonderful journey with our Japanese team to collaborate on the building of this hotel. I hope that this hotel is the beginning of a wonderful relationship between us and the Japanese people. I have loved the culture of the people of Japan from afar and have always wanted to build a lasting relationship with people in this country, now I have the perfect excuse to spend a lot of time in Japan."

Queue laughter

"Thank you to all the people that have been involved in the building of the hotel and thank you to all our future customers. I also want to thank the staff that has already been working to make this day possible."

With that, the string was cut, the doors opened and several designated press members were allowed to tour the hotel in order to build publicity. I lead the tour into the hotel showing off only a few floors and not the most expensive rooms in the hotel. It would allow for people to want to know more about the hotel's more expensive rooms by booking them rather than by reading about them. 

We had planned to stay in Japan two more days after the opening so that we could explore Kobe a little more but I got a call in the evening that led to having to leave the very next day. 

The flight was less exciting on the way back than it was going because I was stressed about the call I received.

We arrived back home and I went straight to the Field head office, where I met with the board directors. 

"I got a call stating that you wanted to meet urgently, I'm here what's the fuss?"

"We got the news that you have been digging into our personal accounts and nosing around, we want to know why?" said one of them 

"You called me all the way from Japan just to talk about a few rumours. Fine, I will tell you the truth of what I have been doing." 

They all sat down and looked right full of themselves and ready to explode. 

"The truth is that I have not been looking into everyone's personal bank accounts but a few, I noticed a few discrepancies in the business accounts while I was doing my overview of the finances in the preparation for the merger. So I looked into these discrepancies and found that someone has been embezzling money from the company and not a little bit of money. It has been going on under your noses for almost five years and so far none of you is aware. So I did a little digging and then I hired a professional to do some investigative work into who exactly has been doing this, and to my surprise, it was not just one person but three board members that have been making money from the business so I have been collecting evidence to bring forth. now that you have called this meeting I guess it's time I reveal exactly who has been stealing."

"You had no right to look into our accounts!" screamed Greg Hill

"I would keep quiet if I were you, sir, screaming like that only makes you look more guilty," I say

"Guilty, who is guilty here? Where do you get off coming into this business and accusing us of stealing" Says Greg

"Ah, but I have yet to name names, you are just exposing yourself Greg", I reply. 

"Yes Greg, why are you offended, if you have nothing to hide then you would have no problem." said the chief of the board Eric Hardy

"Now back to what I was saying, the three board members will be given a chance to leave the board with no repercussions but they have to pay back the money they stole or we can get the cops involved," I say.

"I have nothing to hide," says Greg 

"Then you will have not a problem with me revealing the evidence I have gathered with my investigation on the members of the board?"

"Go ahead," said Eric

"The three members of the board that thought they got away with embezzlement are Greg, Louis, Thomas and Eric ."

The whole board was stunned, even Eric.

"I didn't steal anything," said Eric.

"But you did, you hid it very well but not well enough. You see I noticed that the three accounts belonging to the three embezzlers were all sending money to the same account once a month, to my surprise it belonged to you, Eric. I was stunned myself to know that you are not only getting the highest salary among the board but you also have shares in the company but your greed was so much that you stole from the same company that you invested in. You have the same choice as the others, leave quietly, sell me your shares and this well never become news."

In the end, they left peacefully because they knew I had proof of their misdeeds. it was all in a day's work, the stock price for the company would not drop from bad press and would make a better profit. It was sad for Mr Fields to see his buddies leave but he knew that he would never be able to trust them ever again, not after they had stolen from his company, oh I forgot to mention, he was there too.
