Candice intended to show Olivia that Devon didn't need extra baggage like her in his life; he needed someone who could stand tall beside him, someone who could speak up for themselves—something she could never do.
Susan walked in, looking very professional. Candice watched her expression flicker several times; she seemed confused about something.
"Okay, what's up?" Candice asked. She knew Susan wanted her to ask what had happened, given how she had paced up to where Candice was and suddenly stopped, looking conflicted.
"What?" Susan asked.
"What's up?" Candice repeated.
Susan looked around and then turned back to face Candice. Candice rolled her eyes. Why was Susan pretending not to understand?
"Suz, what is the matter? You look so conflicted. What's up?"
"Oh," Susan muttered. "I... Umm, Alpha Devon came here a while ago—"
