Baldur The Spear

He awoke by smelling an awful rotting sent. It smelled of rotten meat. His eyes snapped open and he got up to go see his venison that he had cut up just yesterday. Wait no, he didn't know how long he was in the cellar for did he? He pinched his nose as he got closer. The venison was shriveled up covered in a thin layer of grey and blue fuzzy mold. "How long was I out?" He questioned to himself knowing he wouldn't get an answer.

After he disposed of the now inedible food, he brought the newly cleaned pan back to the rest. He also decided to get rid of the deer blood as it may be inedible as well. Then he turned his attention back to his grimoire to see about the spear. His stats had changed slightly.

Sick Resistance-

After spending two weeks in unfit living conditions, one's body is now more durable and unharmed by most sicknesses.

Luciel was happy to gain new skills, but if he was really out for two weeks, how is he basically fine? 'looks like I'll have to look into that later.' He flipped over to the page were he would find the spears stuff. Curiosity and confusion washed over his face as he read it.

-Spear of Seidr-

An ancient spear said to have made many have delusions of grandeur after tricking them into fighting nothing to find a worthy master. It could make even the strongest man falter before fake foes and die from imaginary pain in its trials. If mastered, it will evolve with the user in many different ways including; shapes, colors, and sizes.

"All.....of it was....f..fake?" He sat down on his sleeping bag and put his head in his hands trying to process the information. Some of it made sense after awhile because his legs were fine, but would that mean he just laid outside in the cold for two weeks? If so he should have died due to frostbite and hypothermia. He probed his hands and feet to make sure they were fine. Nothing out of the normal. Sighing, he took his attention back to the spear and examined it.

The blade felt sharp enough the cut rock and it felt rather light despite it being fully solid. It was now entirely gold with the occasional blue crystal embedded in it for details. The strange rune work on the shaft was still there as well, though it didn't look like any language he'd ever seen. With swirling letters and lines with the occasional dot, he wondered if he would ever be able to read it. At the very end it had a couple blue tassels for more decoration purposes.

It had a certain charm to it, he knew that this spear would do him well. 'Time to test what this baby can do.' He bundled up and went outside to go hunting. He just wished the spear wouldn't be so shiny, it could seriously make a man go blind. "You know what spear, I'll name you Baldur because of how bright you are." Baldur let out a faint warm feeling in Luciel's hand. Heading outside, he pondered if he should go after something big and furry so he could take its pelt and use it as a door.

He wandered around his cave entrance before going out a little further to find something to eat. But before that, he should figure out how to learn to throw a spear. He pondered about what he should do for a few minutes and then tried to find the correct way of doing it. After throwing it around for awhile, he realized you should hold the spear kind of like a pencil while having your hand be higher up near the middle. Deeming himself ready to hunt, he ventured around the forest until finding some type of animal tracks. It was about the size of a fist with what seem to be hooves. He could tell the animal walked on four legs, but the spacing didn't seem right. The snow around the prints where also slightly melted.

It was almost as if it walked on six legs, three on each side. Luciel didn't know much about the strange creatures other than the most basic ones. He decided to follow the tracks and find out what made them. After a few minutes of traveling he thought he could smell smoke. The tracks got fresher every step. Luciel could finally make out a big brown and red blob in the distance. As he made his way closer, he realized that the top of it was on fire!

He studied it further and realized it was something called a firehorn. Standing at about 8 feet tall, it almost looked like a gigantic deer. It had 3 pairs of sturdy legs and an elongated face. It had two pairs of eyes, one more upfront and one more to the back. The antlers were an ash grey, and had small flames blooming from it. A pair of small tusks peaked just out of its mouth, and its fur was a mix of whites and browns.

Luciel crept up behind it hoping that it didn't see him with one of its eyes. They were known for charging at anything that moves and burning it to death. Once he was close enough, he slowly rose from his crouched position and angled the spear in his hands. He was aiming slightly above where the firehorn's head would be. Luckily, this ones antlers didn't grow inward, only outward.

Taking a deep breath, he stepped backwards and threw Baldur up and away. The spear soared through the air until hitting its mark. Luciel backed off as he watched it drop to its side with a strange whistling type of screech. After it stopped moving, he closed in and went to go see if it was really dead. Turns out, Baldur was sharp and sturdy enough to break bone. The spear had embedded itself into the deep firehorn's skull killing it almost instantly.

He smiled while pulling prying Baldur out with much more ease than he thought possible. Not dilly-dallying, he hauled the gigantic carcass back to his newfound home.

I had to look up how to throw a spear, I hope I explained it well enough. Hope you guys are enjoying the series so far!
