Chapter 43: The Avatars
Allen found himself sweating profusely as he woke up from the dream. Lowering his head, he stared at his palm and then slowly caressed his face. The slight tingling pain sensation was still apparent. Shifting his gaze to the side, he realized that he was still in bed, understanding that everything that happened was in the dream.
It was only then that he questioned something, 'Like Frozen World, could it be possible that I had entered a different world?' The way to enter the Frozen World was the refrigerator, then perhaps, the world to which he entered at the moment was a Dream World! 'A dream world…? But-'
Lifting his head, he raised his voice and with utmost control, he called out to the useless system.
"System, what was this weird phenomenon? Explain!"
[…]
[Host… don't get mad but looks like you accidentally unlocked a new feature.]
"Huh? New feature?"
Allen wasted no time in checking the feature out. A new icon had appeared on the system screen, upon clicking which, a new tab opened with the name [Avatars].
"Avatars?"
A little flabbergasted after seeing this, Allen couldn't help but chuckle in understanding when he saw the image of Death Knight in one of the ten silhouettes.
[Host, Avatars are nothing but the forgotten legends that you must collect. The Death Knight was an example.]
Allen checked the other avatars, but only their silhouette was visible. They were completely black, as if locked. Death Knight, albeit wearing black armor, could still be distinguishable.
"I don't understand, how did I suddenly end up unlocking this?" Now that was a big question.
"Also, why is there only a death knight here? What about others? Also, do explain to me properly, what was that dream? No, was that even a dream?"
Hearing Allen's continuous questions, the system chuckled.
[Keke, it wasn't a dream. It was all real, host.]
"What?" Allen's eyes widened as he heard this.
[Yes, host. As you slept, you ended up possessing the first avatar, the death knight. Although unwillingly, you still did it. And perhaps, you should be thankful for that lamp, the artifact of the death knight that allowed you to do that.]
The system proceeded to explain that Allen had to collect artifacts which contained desire and locked souls of the forgotten legends, who were never meant to be forgotten. Apparently, there were ten of them, and now Allen had one in his possession.
Allen would be able to get immense powers after possessing the avatars whose real bodies remained in the world even today! Though, Allen was not too interested in that. What actually fascinated him was that he could venture outside the weapon store if he possessed an avatar!
"So you're telling me, I actually stood outside the store when I possessed him?"
[That's what you are focusing on!?] The system almost facepalmed itself.
"I mean…"
[Sigh, listen to me carefully, host. You need to collect all ten avatars and have complete control over them. Moreover, to completely possess them, you need to unlock them entirely. You can check the bar below the avatar silhouettes to see how much of them you have unlocked.]
With that being said, Allen took a look at the bar below the Death Knight, which represented: [1.7%]
"Interesting. I was able to freely control the death knight but you are saying it was only 1.7 percent?" This was yet another surprise to Allen.
[Well, host, hate to break it, but that's true.]
Allen tapped his finger on his thigh as he sat cross-legged, thinking about it. He was recalling what had happened previously. As he stared at his hand, he realized the shivering fingertips - it was not because of fear but because of excitement.
The adrenaline rushed as he thought about the adventures he could have with his avatars, which led him to confirm one more thing, "The ten bodies, are they in different parts of the world?"
[That's right. So, if you collect them, just imagine how many places you could visit! Also, you must have had a great fight right? Imagine having such great fights in the future!]
Allen chuckled upon hearing that. He knew that the system was probably trying to throw him into some other pit, but what he said wasn't necessarily wrong.
Stuck up in the same place isn't all too boring if you have video games, anime, books, and other related things to watch. But imagine stuck up as a shopkeeper who cannot exit his own shop and has to wait for his customers to arrive in a deserted area! Talk about how boring he could get! This was one definite way to escape this.
"So, I can possess the death knight at any moment I want?"
[That's somewhat true, but this smart system advises you to do that when you go to bed. You will fail to move your real body, and hence, while sleeping if you do so, then it would be safer.]
"Damn system, since when did you start thinking about me?" Allen wiped his eyes, not believing the moment.
[Uff, this is a smart and honorable system who has always cared for its host! It's the host who is too dumb to notice this.]
"…"
"Anyway, just tell me, how do I increase the unlocking percent?"
[It's simple. You have to see how the legend had lived his or her life.]
"So basically a simulation, right?" Allen poked his nose as he said this.
[You could say that, host. Though, you will only be a watcher. You can't interfere.]
Allen's eyes widened, "Heck yeah!"
[???]
"Thank you, system. It's the first time I wish to appreciate you a lot! I was getting bored but you gave a nice feature! It will be like watching an anime or movie. Heck yes!"
[…]
[Is that what you think?]
"Yes! I don't even have to do anything. It will happen in front of me, and I just have to sit back. That's all it takes to unlock the character completely, right?"
[Y-yes…], the system's voice kept decreasing the more it listened to Allen.
"Let's not waste time then! The Death Knight, let's go!" Without wasting any time, Allen clicked on the -<Re:Live Legend>- button below the unlock tab, instantly after which he fell asleep once again.
[Ha… Sometimes smart, sometimes foolish. This system is failing to understand the host. But maybe, the host will soon realize what it means to live a legend's life…]
