Nyx's grip on his blade tightened, his body coiled like a spring as he anticipated the next move. The ground beneath him trembled, a warning of the beast's fury. Before he could act, the dust cloud erupted outward, and the Orc Commander emerged, charging with thunderous steps. Its jagged blade swung in a wide, devastating arc, cleaving the air with a deafening whistle.
Instinct guided Nyx as he dropped low, the monstrous weapon slicing just inches above his head. The sheer force of the swing sent a shockwave that rippled through the battlefield, scattering loose debris like shrapnel. Rolling forward with fluid precision, Nyx closed the distance, placing himself within the beast's reach but out of the arc of its weapon.
The Orc Commander snarled, its glowing eyes narrowing as it raised the massive blade for another crushing strike. But Nyx was already moving, his shadowy form darting to the beast's exposed flank. His sword flashed in a swift, calculated slash, carving a shallow wound along its side.
The creature roared, its guttural cry shaking the air as it swung wildly in retaliation. But Nyx danced just out of reach, his movements deliberate and smooth, like a predator stalking its prey.
"Hmm." Nyx's mumbled to himself
The Orc Commander bellowed again, its frustration mounting as it struggled to keep up with Nyx's unpredictable movements. Then, sensing something amiss, the Commander halted, its glowing eyes scanning the battlefield. It caught sight of Nyx running toward the far corner of the chaos, its fury reigniting as it charged after him.
Nyx, however, had anticipated this. He waved his hand, and the controlled kobolds and goblins surged into the Commander's path, swarming it like an angry hive of wasps. The creature roared in annoyance, swiping at the distractions as it slowed its pursuit.
Nyx reached the other side of the battlefield, his sharp gaze landing on a discarded sword lying among the debris. Without hesitation, he picked it up, its worn hilt fitting snugly into his grip.
From the defensive lines, a knight called out in confusion. "What's he doing? Why is he running?"
Another knight turned his head, wiping sweat from his brow.
Nyx glanced at the blades in his hands—his original weapon and the battered sword he'd just recovered.
'Combine,' he thought.
The air around him shimmered faintly as the two swords began to glow. A faint hum resonated from the weapons, a light only Nyx could perceive as the latent mana within them intertwined.
'This is a world created by the Tower', Nyx reasoned, 'and if it's bound by the Tower's logic, then even its smallest fragments should carry mana.'
The glow intensified, and the two blades merged in a flash of blinding light. When the radiance subsided, Nyx held a single weapon in his hand—a blade that radiated a faint aura of power, far from ordinary.
