The Vampire's Vault

Garrick stood up and extended his hand to the priest. "Hello Father, it's been a while." He said with a smile.

That priest shook his hand and smiled back. "Yes it has been, but you don't look like you have aged a bit. More than twenty years and the people of England would begin to wonder how you have managed to look the same for fifty years," he said and they chuckled.

"Forget about my look, Father. Humans aren't that smart, you are giving them way too much credit," Garrick said with a grin.

"You almost forget I am human, the only difference is that I am exposed to the existence of the supernatural world. Anyway, what brings you back here? The last time I saw you, if I remember correctly, you said you won't be coming back for another two centuries. I always knew you to keep to your words, so for you to return two decades later, I believe that there is something I need to know." The priest reasoned.

Garrick laughed softly. "You are still a super smart old man, yes I wasn't going to come back till you were long dead. I was hoping to meet your son or grandson the next time I showed up here, but things changed. It turns out that I have a daughter, and she needs my help." He announced.

"What? You have a child? I never knew that." The priest said with a look of surprise on his face.

"Oh, believe me Father, I didn't know either. I only found out yesterday but that is not even the surprising part of it, the shocking part is that her mother is Claire." He informed the Priest with a grin on his face.

The Priest expression changed immediately to disbelief. "What are you talking about? It can't be true. How can you procreate with a human? I thought that was impossible?" he asked.

"I thought so as well, but I was surprised to learn that I have had a child for twenty years and I never knew about it, a child born to me by a human. Isn't that just unbelievable? I think it's more than a miracle, you believe in miracles, right?" Garrick asked with a smirk.

The priest huffed and chuckled. "You sure are a mystery, but you should protect this information within the people you trust. If your kind finds out that they can reproduce with humans, they will overrun this world with hybrid children; that will destroy the balance of the world. Simple science should explain that better, and so you know what I mean."

Garrick smiled and nodded. "You are right, Father, but forget about what I will do and what I won't do, let's get to business. You know why I am here, I need money to take care of my family." he announced.

"Yeah, sure, I will take you down to the vault. Please come with me," he instructed and turned to the back of the church hall.

Garrick followed him immediately. They went down the basement and then they arrived at a metal door. The priest inputted the combination and pushed the door open. They walked in to meet stashes of gold coins and jewelry. More money than the city itself had.

"As agreed, we have been taking out one percentage of the total wealth you left here every year to include in the church fund. This is all that is left of it," the Priest reported.

"Oh, sure. This is more than enough, please have them all packed for me. I would be leaving with them all, I need to update the currencies and also sell the jewelry for today's currency."

The priest seemed surprised to hear him say that. "All of them? You won't be able to spend all this in the few years you stay awake, won't it be a problem getting it back into the vault?" he asked.

"No Father, I have more need for money now because I have a family and a past to make up for. I want the best for my daughter and her mother, I want them to lack nothing and so I will need all of this money. If you are worried that I will go broke, then you should be. I have more than six other vaults filled with indispensable wealth." Garrick said proudly and smiled.

He was always boasting about how much money he has, but was he even supposed to be poor? He has had almost three thousand years to make money!!

"Okay, if you insist, then I will do as you have said. I will get a few trusted workers to help pack it all and get it ready for movement in few minutes. But if you don't mind, how long do you plan to stay this time?" the priest asked.

He seemed too curious to know Garrick's whereabouts. Well, he had known Garrick since he took the position as Priest sixty years ago, and Garrick can't stay too long in one location without getting into a clash that results in death and bloodshed.

The priest didn't want that in his city, he was always left to clean up the mess that these supernatural creatures leave in their clash. The land has been more peaceful in Garrick's absence, but his return will draw in other vampires who sought to kill him for his wrongs in the past.

Of course, Garrick always had to protect himself. He wasn't exactly immortal as there was something that could kill a vampire even as old as him, so he needed to destroy the threats before they grew powerful.

"Oh, don't bother so much old man; I won't cause you any problems while I am here. I have a daughter now, I need to live by example. I am going to be in England for a very long time, and even if I have to leave, I wouldn't be going back to slumber, I will be moving to a new location with my family. I am only going to take a nap if my family is no more but that is almost impossible since I have a daughter who isn't exactly human," he replied and patted the priest on his shoulder with a smile on his face.

The priest then forced a smile, he wanted to believe Garrick but he knew that even the ancient vampire wouldn't be able to stop the bloodshed that always accompanied him.
