First Day together

"Your friend probably should have aimed that rock a little better," she said. "Otherwise, we probably wouldn't even be having this conversation right now."

Oh.

"Of course, I could always tell them you were amongst that mob earlier." She scowled at him, "And with one of the ones throwing rocks to boot. How long do you think it will be before they throw you and dear old mom out?"

"I-"

"A week? A day? Five minutes." She chuckled. "Yes, definitely that last one."

'Why this freak? She thinks she is all that mighty *Let it out...Just breath, Remember you are doing it for mom...put up with this freak...come on"

An incident had left his mother and him without a home. A fire destroyed their house, and there had been some kind of issue with the insurance. Trying to find somewhere else to live on such short notice is the one kind of stress his mom really didn't need right after losing a house she'd lived in for nearly a decade, while also trying to sort out whatever was going on with the insurance company.

"Look, I wasn't trying to-"

"I don't care." She whipped around and walked away. "You'll be starting tomorrow, after school. Normally I wouldn't come straight home right after school, but I think I'll make an exception." She looked over her shoulder. "You know, to make sure you're getting the hang of your new job."

'Well...That sucked...'

(Next Morning)

Oh yes, good old Lakeside High. He'd been attending for just over a year. He walked toward the entrance, passing numerous people still milling about outside.

That vampire girl attended too and was in the same grade as him. Despite that, He'd almost never seen her around. He thought they just never had the same schedule.

That, or He'd been subconsciously avoiding her. It could go either way.

"Hello, Alex!" An arm wrapped around him. "It's so good to see you!"

'CRRRRRAAAAAPPPPP....It was that vampire girl', he mentally screamed

'Sigh...Whatever...I will just put up with her...for mom's sake'

She turned around and just barely kept her voice from being a full-on shout as she said, "It's so NICE that YOU AND YOUR MOM are STAYING at my HOME! You know the VAMPIRE HOUSE!" She turned to a random kid passing by. "Alex is staying at my house. And I'm a... VAMPIRE!"

Said random kid took a few steps back.

Dozens of people were staring at them. A few were laughing. Most just looked baffled...He, on the other hand, trying to hide from this embarrassing moment

"Well, buddy... how- are those your friends?", she baffled looked at the other side

He sighed, before turning around.

Yep, there they are. His friends.

Three of them to be exact.

The tallest of the bunch, Matthew, gave Alex an odd look. "Uh, hey. What's going on?"

"Alex?" she asked. "Aren't you going to introduce me to your friends?"

The shortest, Daniel crossed his arms. "She's your friend?"

'Nope, she is a freak who is controlling me by blackmailing me...Just you wait I am going to get back at you'

"Alex?"

"This is... er?"

"Oh, Alex!" She slapped his back. Hard. Very Hard, "Very funny. I'm Elizabeth Leavitt."

Matthew's eye twitched. "I know."

Her smile faded. "I suppose you would."

Their eyes locked into a mutually intense and angry glare.

"Hey, Alex?" He looked at him. "Is everything alright?" He gestured toward Elizabeth. "I mean with... whatever this is?"

Elizabeth gave me an expectant stare.

"Yes," Alex said, through gritted teeth. "Everything. Is. Fine."

"...Alright." Matthew looked back and forth between Elizabeth and Alex. "I guess I'll see you around?"

Alex Nodded

-------

He had assumed He'd be relatively free for the rest of the day, and wouldn't have to worry about Elizabeth until after school.

Oh...How wrong he was...

Despite us not having a single other class together, Elizabeth was somehow always waiting for him right after He left class. It didn't matter where the class was, or how far hers must have been, she was always somehow just there.

She made it clear she 'desperately needed' Alex assistance.

With everything. Apparently.

She had him carry all her books. She had him open every door that stood in her way.

'And she just couldn't seem to help but loudly proclaim that I was doing all of that to the entire freaking planet'

-------

Eventually, lunch came around.

He gloomily marched down a hallway. Elizabeth followed him closely.

He overheard two girls whispering amongst each other.

"There they are."

"I know right? Sooo cute~"

He nearly stopped dead in his tracks, only Elizabeth's prodding kept Alex moving. He strained to hear what they were saying, even as they kept moving.

"When did ... going out?"

"... I dunno ... -thing for her."

"Adorable."

A sinking sensation settled into the stomach.

'What exactly were those girls thinking about us?'

"Hey, Elizabeth!" A tall girl with cropped brown hair rushed up to them.

"Hey!" Elizabeth dragged Alex over to her. "This is my new friend." Her voice held a mischievous tone.

"New 'friend', huh?" The girl crossed her arms, looking Alex over with a raised brow. "Is that a fact?"

"I'm Alex, Nice to meet you", he brought his arm forward which she shook with a clear intention that says, 'I know what's going on'

He gulped

"I know who you are," she said with a smirk. "I'm Roxanne. So... I finally get to meet him, huh?"

Elizabeth raised a brow. "Where did you hear about him? I hadn't told anybody yet."

"Well you two have been making such a big scene, it didn't take long to find out." Roxanne looked at Alex. "Got to say, you really found yourself the romantic type."

Alex paled. He imagines Elizabeth would have too if she had any melanin left to lose.

"So how did you two become a couple?" Roxanne asked. "I've never seen you two talking to each other before."

Elizabeth stared at her friend for a really long time.

Roxanne's eyes darted between the two of the love birds, her expression growing more nervous with each passing second

A hint of red touched Elizabeth's cheeks.

Alex coughed nervously. "We-"

"That is not even slightly what is going on here!" Elizabeth shouted.

Roxanne took a step back. "Easy, Elizabeth. I was just-"

"I would never in a million years. I wouldn't... that- why would you even think that!"

"Um." Roxanne scratched the back of her neck. "You two were being so lovey-dovey all day. It seemed pretty obvious."

"B-but we weren't!" Elizabeth threw her hands up. "At all! He was just carrying my books, and opening doors, and...."

"Hun?" Roxanne smiled nervously. "That's what boyfriends do for their girlfriends sometimes.

Elizabeth stared at Alex

Taking everything in, Alex felt...a little flustered. Elizabeth was actually pretty cute.

'What the hell are you thinking she is a freaking vampire...come to your senses'

Alex felt a blush touch His cheeks. "I, uh..." He shuffled nervously before casting a glance toward Elizabeth.

She stared right back, wide eyes studying Alex's expression.

"W-we're not like that," He said finally

Roxanne nodded. "Sure."

"He's telling the truth!" Elizabeth shouted. "We're not a couple! He was just helping me out."

Roxanne rolled her eyes.

"I-I... I need to go." Elizabeth quickly took off.

"Wait!" Roxanne followed closely behind. "I want juicy details!"

'Well. This has been... something', thought Alex while standing there alone
