Prologue. (1)

*I wonder what Chelsie and Ford want for dinner...* I thought.

I was driving home in my '67 Malibu along interstate 80 out of Salt Lake City. I had just gotten off work from my construction job, but it had gotten pretty late as I looked at the sunset falling down the horizon. We owned our own little house with a large 100 acre yard about 20 minutes outside of the city. It was... nice. Peaceful.

Ford was born only 3 months ago and he looked so much like his mother, Chelsie. I remember meeting her 3 years ago when she got attacked by that werewolf... luckily I was nearby so she didn't get hurt. I took her to her home and she... well... she kissed me! I don't even know what came over me at the time. I just knew that I loved her and wanted to make a family with her. we got married 5 months later.

I turned some good old Frank Sinatra on and sped up, enjoying the empty interstate and the sunset. I decided to give them a call so I could stop at a grocery store along the way. I slowed down and pulled into the parking lot of "smith's" the local grocery store while pulling out my phone. When I parked I called Chelsie.

"Hey, hun! what's up?" she said as she answered the call.

"Hey, Chel. Just calling to ask what you guys want for dinner?"

"Hmm." She hummed into the phone. "Let's do hotdogs tonight!"

I could hear her smile through the phone.

"Hotdogs with a side of hotdog coming right up! love you."

"Love you too, Hun! Drive safe!" I heard her say as I hung up the phone and smirked.

I got out of the car and walked into the market when someone called out.

"Hey, red-eye! Long time no see!"

I looked over and saw Donna, the teenage cashier looking at me. why did she call me red eye, you ask? Well as it turns out the name is completely literal, as my right eye was a deep blood red while my other eye was hazel.

"Sup, Donna. Just grabbing some food for the missus. you been good?" I asked her like a grandfather inquiring about their granddaughter.

"Same old, Same old, gramps." She said with a smirk.

I may be older than dust but I only look to be in my late twenties. granted I am stuck in my 1960s phase with the old car and music but I mean, come on. can you blame me?

"Hah, hah." I mock laughed at her joke. "I'll be over in a bit, Donna."

I walked over to the meat aisle and noticed my phone ringing. It was Chelsie. I went to answer it but she hung up before I could. I tried to call her back but she didn't pick up. I frowned down at my phone. *That's odd...* I thought. *Well, I'll see her when I get home I guess.*

I quickly grabbed the Hotdogs, buns, condiments, and whatever else I thought we'd need and went to check out.

Donna looked up as I approached and saw the hotdogs in my hand then frowned.

"How the fuck do you stay so big when you eat shit like that, Red?"

"Language!" I said as I frowned at her.

"Fiiiine..." She sighed. "But seriously though, you got a full on 6 pack and all you eat is hamburgers or hotdogs or whatever else you feel like, really... what's your secret?" She gasped and leaned in. "You a Sup?"

Sup was short for Supernatural. While we do live in present day America the supernatural community decided it would be in their best interest to reveal themselves around 8 years ago in early 2012. Probably due to the fact that it was getting harder to hide with cameras everywhere. Some Sups still remained in the shadows for obvious reason. Lucifer, for example. Never liked that guy anyway. He always used to piss me off crying about how his daddy left him.

*cough* anyway. It started with the more obvious ones at first. Werewolves, Vampires, and the like. Then after a while they decided to reveal the more obscure Sups like the Fae, Mermaids/Mermen, Djinn, and many, MANY more.

It brought many advantages to both Sups and Humans. For example: Now, Vampires can go to bars in broad daylight (nightlight?) and ask the local hot chick or hot guy if he wants to get sucked off and they get a 2 for 1 combo deal.

Yuck.

Now... I am, technically, a Sup... just... not one that is written or remembered. Not that I was going to tell donna that. As far as I know I'm the only one of my kind. Pretty sure only God knows me... the REAL me. and before you ask, yeah. God with a capital G. He's very real but... like me he is just suffering through the passage of time, I suppose. He doesn't control Destiny or anything like that, Nor is he omniscient or omnipotent. But he's God's damned powerful. Pun Intended.

"Hah! I wish! Maybe my job would get easier if I asked a werewolf to bite me." I said with my voice trailing off. In a joking manner, of course. I've been bitten by half the Sups out there and it always ended up with them dead and me remaining the same.

"Whatever, Gramps. Just don't let Chelsie hear you say that or she's gonna be pissed." She said as she rolled her eyes

True... There were some people who flat out hated Sups. For some it was some form of racism while others it was out of pure terror. Take my Chelsie for example. As soon as she sees a Sup she has a panic attack because of her past. I haven't told her about me yet... and I don't want to. but I know that one day when she notices than she's not getting any younger and I'm forever twenty-something I'll have to break it to her. I love her so much but... I can't bear the thought of her looking at me in fear.

"I'll keep that in min-" I got cut off as I heard sirens and a firetruck fly past the store on the interstate.

"Must be a hell of a fire, eh?" Donna said.

"Yeah..." I said as I watched the firetruck exit my field of view from within the store.

*Where are they going?* I thought. *The only thing down that way for miles is my hou-*

I remembered the phone call. I remembered she didn't answer when I tried to call her back. Fear struck my heart. I felt my legs moving. I forgot about the food. Someone said something but all I heard was the ringing of my phone from earlier.

I ran out of the store and hopped into my car before taking off. My cars front wheels came off the ground as I kept speeding up. I hoped I was wrong. Nothing would happen to Chelsie and Ford! The scent of smoke only served to tighten my heart. Then I saw it. My house… What remained of it.

I got out of my car with slow steps. I could feel it. They... no. no. NO! I ran into the fire, ignoring the words of the firefighters and started to remove the rubble when I saw a hand... It wasn't Chelsie's... it was Ford's...

"NOOOOOOO!!!!" I screamed loud enough to break all the windows of the vehicles outside. I was digging. I kept digging. I felt my skin burn in the fire and my hands bleed as I was ripping wood off of them. I threw the last piece of tile off of them. Ford was nestled in Chelsie's arms. She tried to protect him to the very end. "no..."

I picked them up. I felt... PAIN. Pure and unbridled. I held Chelsie and Ford in my arms. I ran out of the house before it collapsed more. I hoped to save them from more... wounds. I ran to the young paramedic so fast I saw him jump.

"SAVE THEM!" I yelled. I felt tears falling down my face.

"Sir... I'm... very sorry." The paramedic said quietly. "We need to get you patched up. You can leave your wife and child with him." He looked at an older Paramedic who was in his early 50's.

The older man looked at me gently and said. "Sir. I'm very sorry for your loss."

If my blood was cold before then I can't even describe what it was now. I fell to my knees, still holding my dead wife and child in my arms.

I felt someone touch my shoulder. I looked up and saw Death. The Grim Reaper. He's come to guide my wife and son to the after life. He looked surprised when he saw me.

"Guide them." I said quietly. I couldn't hide from the truth any longer with Death literally staring me in the face. "Please... let them be taken to the Father's Kingdom."

And Death nodded. "Your wish shall be completed, Old One."

I nodded back as I saw the souls of my Family being taken from their bodies. I was at peace with this, however sad I was. Death knew me. I remembered when he was a child, still learning the ways of Death.

I saw as Chelsie- her soul- stood up with Ford in her arms. She turned to look at me. Her eyes widened as she saw her and Ford's body in my arms then widened even further as she looked at my body that was half burnt, blackened.

"I'm sorry, my love." I said as tears started falling down my eyes again. "You and Ford will have to head up first."

I tried to smile. It hurt so badly to smile. I saw Ford reach towards Death and grab his cloak and giggle.

"We'll be waiting for you, Birger, my love." She was smiling as tears fell down her face.

I felt so empty. I knew she would wait forever. How could I go to the resting place for God's creations when... I wasn't his creation. I set their bodies down on the gurney that the paramedic pointed to earlier. I slowly brushed their faces.

"Old One." Death called.

"Death." I said, still looking at their faces, half burnt.

"Take a deep breath." He said before he disappeared into limbo.

*Take a deep breath?* I thought silently and frowned while holding their hands. *Take a deep…- is there a scent?* I inhaled deeply. something was there. beyond the smell of burnt wood and... flesh. I almost threw up as I smelled my family's dead bodies. I felt the tears coming again when I caught it.

Rotten eggs. Brimstone.

My blood ran hot. Then cold. Then hot again.

It was unmistakable normally, but with my mind in a frenzy and the smell of the fire I almost missed it.

Demons.
