Chapter 47 Unexpected Guest

Chapter 47 Unexpected Guest

In a pub in Manhattan, New York, Leon, Natasha Romanoff, and Hawkeye sat in a row at the bar. Hawkeye was seated between Leon and Natasha Romanoff.

Leon raised his glass wordlessly and glanced at Natasha Romanoff on the other side. "Dear, I'm just looking for someone to have a drink and chat with because I'm bored. You don't to be so guarded?" he asked playfully.

"Don't you think that you're overthinking all this?" Leon continued, questioning whether Natasha Romanoff believed that Hawkeye could actually stop him if he had ill intentions.

Hawkeye, whose full name is Clint Barton, couldn't help but smile wryly upon hearing Leon's questionable remarks.

Natasha Romanoff didn't take it seriously and instead sipped her cocktail, her attention drawn to the band playing nearby. The soothing music in the bar was a refreshing change from the usual disco-like dance tracks, making it her preferred place to relax during her downtime.

Observing Natasha Romanoff's apparent prejudice against him, Leon shrugged and decided to strike up a conversation with Hawkeye Barton beside him. "Hey Dude, Are you married?" he asked nonchalantly.

Barton was caught off guard and nearly choked on his drink. "Not yet," he lied, knowing well that, according to the timeline, he was actually married and might even have a daughter.

As an agent, especially one associated with S.H.I.E.L.D, Barton knew that he had countless enemies worldwide. To keep his family safe, he kept his personal life secret, with only Fury and Natasha Romanoff knowing about his little home at the remote country farm, isolated from the internet and hidden from satellite tracking. Even Ultron couldn't locate it.

Unconcerned about the truth of Barton's response, Leon casually advised him with a smile, "If you're not married, hurry up. It's better to have more children while you're young. Don't wait for something to might or might not happen."

This remark deeply troubled Natasha Romanoff, who abruptly stopped drinking and slammed her glass on the table. She couldn't have children. Trained in the Red Room since little, she was once an elite agent trained by the Red Room. However, the female agents graduating from the Red Room were sterilized to prevent emotional attachments or any potential accidents, and it was done thoroughly.

Leon must know this, having seen the movie.

He deliberately provoked her, ignoring her feelings. Barton, understanding Natasha Romanoff's pain, knew her love for children and the fact that she could never have her own.

Thinking Leon might not be aware, Barton refrained from blaming him. Instead, he changed the topic, offering Leon a toast and discussing other matters. "I heard Fury approached you. How did it go? Did you agree?" Barton inquired about the Avengers plan, expecting Leon's answer to be a definite no.

"Why?" Barton was surprised at Leon's response.

Leon shrugged, "Why would I agree? Did I ever say I'd dedicate my life to your country or any other for that matter?"

He had no intention of joining either S.H.I.E.L.D or the Avengers. Asking him to work for a country was out of the question.

Did they seriously expect him to work for them?

Natasha Romanoff finally couldn't hold back and interjected, as she was the one in charge of convincing Leon to join. "The Avengers don't work for anyone. They are a special operations team that is only deployed when necessary."

Leon spread his hands, "Dear, you were the one who got deceived."

Wait until the HYDRA within S.H.I.E.L.D is exposed. Wait until S.H.I.E.L.D gets destroyed because of it. Won't the Avengers get blame for that?

What frustrated Leon the most was that he had already uncovered a HYDRA within S.H.I.E.L.D, but judging from the attitudes of Fury, Phil Coulson, and Natasha Romanoff, they didn't seem to suspect that more HYDRAs were lurking within S.H.I.E.L.D.

They thought it was merely an isolated incident, but they never questioned how someone who dared to tattoo his body could infiltrate without high-level cover.

Someone must have given the green light.

Anyway, it had nothing to do with Leon. He would be happier if those guys were dead.

Regardless, Leon would protect the people and things he cared about. Even if HYDRA dared to provoke him, he could find them all and shoot them down one by one.

Hence, Leon didn't care and didn't bother saying anything.

"If you didn't want to agree, why did you call me out?" Natasha Romanoff's irritation grew, still upset by Leon's previous remarks. She couldn't help but stand up and glare at him.

Why did she compromise and come here to drink with him? He was such a jerk!

Leon scratched his head, "Miss Beautiful, have some pity on me. I'm really homeless tonight."

"Pfft," Barton couldn't hold back and spewed out his drink, looking at the two of them with a strange expression.

Natasha Romanoff's temples throbbed with anger, and her head was pounding.

They had nothing to do with each other, but the way he spoke so casually, anyone who didn't know them would think she was going to take him in for the night.

"Why don't you come with me tonight?" Barton asked Leon. The reason Natasha Romanoff had called him out so quickly was that he had just returned from a mission and hadn't had time to go back to his secure cabin nearby. He was staying at a hotel instead.

Leon glanced at Barton, weirdly looked at him. Barton was also frustrated and shrugged, no longer interested in caring.

The three of them continued drinking in silence.

Barton and Natasha Romanoff had a close relationship. They were old friends, and the Barton family even treated Natasha Romanoff as their own.

However, there were things they couldn't discuss in front of Leon, such as their missions or Barton's family. Those were all secrets.

By the end of the meal, even Leon lost interest.

If he had known earlier, he would have just found a bar by himself. Maybe he could have made a connection with someone and go to a place to stay for the night.

He wasn't short on money; he just didn't want to be alone. But considering the current situation, being alone seemed better.

Just as he thought so, hoping the situation would dissolve, the pub suddenly shook violently.

Was there an earthquake?

The next moment, a massive green figure burst through the wall, creating a human-shaped hole as it entered.

Leon stood up and instinctively shouted, "Hulk?"
