The Triumph

This is the fifth book to my Doctor Who fan fiction with elements of RWBY, Madoka Magica, Symphogear, and SAO in there. It will have me, the Doctor, obviously, the companion, whoever it might be. It will also have characters from RWBY, Madoka Magica, Symphogear, and SAO in there, all of us interacting with each other. A couple of weeks or months have passed since Team RNJR and I have made it to Haven. And there are some reunions along the way too. The Ponds are here too, which is really fantastic. It's gonna be fantastic, and it will take a while for things to go back to how they were, if they ever go back to where they were.

Vincent and the Doctor

Autumn. Something cuts a swathe through the ripe wheat, scaring the crows. The event is caught on canvas by an avant-garde artist.

(Jared's POV)

Muse d'Orsay…

Wheatfield with crows is now hanging on a gallery wall with an expert enthusing over it to his audience.

"So this is one of the last paintings Van Gogh ever painted. Those final months of his life were probably the most astonishing artistic outpouring in history. It was like Shakespeare knocking off Othello, Macbeth and King Lear over the summer hols. And especially astonishing because Van Gogh did it with no hope of praise or reward. He is now…" Black said.

"Thanks for bringing us." Amy said.

"You're welcome." The Doctor said.

"You're being so nice to me, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Yang. Why are you being so nice to us?"

"I'm always nice to you lot."

"Not like this. These places you're taking us. Arcadia, the Trojan Gardens, now this. I think it's suspicious."

"What? It's not. There's nothing to be suspicious about." The Doctor said.

"Okay, I was joking. Why aren't you?" Amy asked.

I have my Switch out and I'm playing Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, "Man, I'll never get tired of this game."

"Ugh. Video games now?" Ruby asked. "We're in an art gallery. Even if it is a little bit boring."

"I know. But still…"

"You have to focus your attention to the paintings." Weiss said, walking over to my Switch and she pressed the power button. "You've been grinding all week."

"She's right, you know." Yang said. "Why bring us along if all you're gonna do is see Shulk on his adventures?"

"The Bionis and the Mechonis…" I said, placing my Switch inside my pocket.

"Look. There it is. The actual one." Amy said, holding the picture in her Van Gogh exhibition guide book next to the painting of the Church at Auvers.

"Yes. You can almost feel his hand painting it right in front of you, carving the colours into shapes." The Doctor said.

"Wait, that's not right." Ruby said, walking towards the painting.

"What?" Amy asked.

"Look at that." Weiss said, looking at the painting.

"What?"

"That's not good." Yang said.

"What's not good?" Amy asked.

"Look, Pond, in the window of the church." I said, grabbing Ruby's hand.

A dragon-like image.

"Is it a face?" Amy asked.

"Yup, it's a baddie. A bad face. I know it's evil. The one in the window." Ruby said, looking at the Doctor.

The Doctor goes over to Doctor Black, who is at the Still Life with Twelve Sunflowers.

"It has changed hands for something in the region of twenty…" Black said.

"Excuse me. If I can just interrupt for one second. Sorry, everyone. Routine inspection, Ministry of Art and Artiness. So, er…" The Doctor said.

"Doctor Black."

"Yes, that's right. Do you know when that picture of the church was painted?"

"Ah, well, ah, well, what an interesting question. Most people imagine..."

"I'm going to have to hurry you. When was it?"

"Exactly?"

"As exactly as you can. Without a long speech, if poss. I'm in a hurry."

"Well, in that case, probably somewhere between the first and third of June."

"What year?"

"1890. Less than a year before, before he killed himself." Black said.

"Thank you, sir. Very helpful indeed. Nice bow-tie. Bow-ties are cool." The Doctor said.

"Bow ties?" Weiss asked.

"I believe I saw bunk beds in Amy's room." Yang said, her arm on her hip.

"What about the other pictures?" Ruby asked.

"Seriously, Little Red. I wasn't that interested in the art right now. Because it can seriously wait! This is life and death. We need to see Vincent Van Gogh." I said, pulling Ruby away.

Weiss, Yang, the Doctor, and Amy follow me from behind.

Alleyway…

Night. The Tardis materialises in a narrow alley, scaring a cat.

"Right, so, here's the plan. We find Vincent and he leads us straight to the church and our nasty friend." The Doctor said.

"Easy peasy. Lemon squeezy." Ruby said, holding my hand.

"Well, no. I suspect nothing will be easy with Mister Van Gogh. Now, he'll probably be in the local cafe. Sort of orangey light, chairs and tables outside." The Doctor said.

"Is it just me or has things gotten easier?" Weiss asked, while Amy looked in her exhibition guide book.

"After the Fall of Beacon. Well, yeah. Agatha Christie. Remember that time we played Clue?" I asked, as Ruby squeezed my hand. "So warm…"

"Like this?" Amy asked, looking at the cafe.

"That's the one. The Café Terrace at Night."

"Clue? It wasn't as fun as conquering Remnant." Yang said. "But that cafe looks like that painting."

"Or exactly like it." Weiss said. "Who's Agatha Christie?"

Outside the cafe…

"Good evening. Hi. Do you know Vincent Van Gogh?" Ruby asked.

"Don't mention that man to me." Maurice said.

The manager stalks back inside.

"Excuse me. Do you know Vincent Van Gogh?" Yang asked.

"Unfortunately." The waitress said.

"Unfortunately?" Weiss asked.

"He's drunk, he's mad and he never pays his bills."

"He's an amazing painter, right? With the Starry Night and the Yellow House!" I said, excitedly. "I know it's better than what Alina Gray ever painted."

General hilarity ensues at the very idea of Vincent being an amazing painter.

"Ugh, don't tell me he's as drunk as Uncle Qrow." Ruby said, annoyed.

"Come on! Come on! One painting for one drink. That's not a bad deal." Vincent said.

Maurice leads his impecunious customer outside, "It wouldn't be a bad deal if the painting were any good. I can't hang that up on my walls. It'd scare the customers half to death. It's bad enough having you in here in person, let alone looming over the customers day and night in a stupid hat. You pay money or you get out."

"I'll pay, if you like." The Doctor said.

"What?" Maurice asked.

"Well, if you like, I'll pay for the drink. Or I'll pay for the painting and you can use the money to pay for the drink."

"Exactly who are you?" Vincent asked.

"Oh, I'm new in town."

"Well, in that case, you don't know three things. One, I pay for my own drinks, thank you." Vincent said, laughing a little. "Two, no one ever buys any of my paintings or they would be laughed out of town. So if you want to stay in town, I suggest you keep your cash to yourself. And three, your lady friends are cute, but you should keep your big nose out of other people's business. Come on, just one more drink. I'll pay tomorrow."

"No." Maurice said.

"Or, on the other hand, slightly more compassionately, yes?"

"Or, on the other hand, to protect my business from madmen, no."

"Or?" Vincent asked.

"Oh look, just shut up, the pair of you. I would like a bottle of wine, please, which I will then share with whomever I choose." Amy said.

"She's good." Yang said, looking at me. "Amy Pond."

"She reminds me, of me." Weiss said. "How did you…"

Weiss is staring at me, awestruck.

"Another time, Ice Queen. And about Agatha Christie, she's a famous author." I said, smirking. "Blake would have loved her."

Maurice gives Vincent his Self-portrait with Straw Hat back and goes inside with Amy.

Cafe…

Later, at a table inside.

"How much did you miss us?" Weiss asked.

"A lot." I said, sadly. "I had to kill a child. It was sacrificing one life to save millions. It was a year ago."

"Why would you do something like that?" Yang asked. "Like what is wrong with you?"

"Yang. Jared didn't have a choice." Ruby said, grabbing my hand. "You said children were being taken away by soldiers."

"Yeah." I said, sitting in between Ruby and Weiss. "Worst couple days of my life actually."

"Did you lose anyone else when we were away?" Weiss asked.

"Yes. Donna Noble. She died. Not physically. But mentally. You two would have loved her. If Team RWBY hadn't broken up."

"I met her." Ruby said, happily. "She was awesome. Super temp. Right?"

"Yeah."

"One of my favourite whats? You've never seen my work before." Vincent said.

"Ah yes. One of my favourite paintings that I've ever seen, generally." Amy said.

"Then you can't have seen many paintings, then. I know it's terrible. It's the best I can do. Your hair's orange."

"Yes. So's yours."

"Yes. It was more orange, but now is, of course, less."

"So. Er, Vincent, painted any churches recently? Any churchy plans? Are churches, chapels, religiousy stuff like that, something you'd like to get into? You know, fairly soon?" The Doctor asked.

"Well, there is one church I'm thinking of painting when the weather is right." Vincent said.

"That is very good news."

An older woman runs in, screaming, "She's been murdered! Help me!"

"That, on the other hand, isn't quite such good news. Come on, Amy, Jared, Vincent, Ruby, Weiss, Yang!" The Doctor said.

(Open POV)

Street…

"She's been ripped to shreds!" A man said, nearby.

"Please, let me look. I'm a doctor." The Doctor said.

"Who is it?" Another woman asked, nearby.

"Oh no, no, no." The Doctor said.

"Is she dead?" A man asked, nearby.

"Away, all of you vultures. This is my daughter. Giselle. What monster could have done this? Get away from her!" The mother said, angrily.

Okay, okay." The Doctor said.

"Get that madman out of here!"

The crowd start throwing stones at Vincent.

"Stones?" Weiss asked.

The Doctor, Amy, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Yang get pelted, too.

"It doesn't hurt that much." Yang said, smirking.

"You bring this on us. Your madness! You!" The mother said, looking at Vincent.

"He's to blame!" Another woman said.

Alley…

"Are you okay?" Jared asked, squeezing Ruby's hand.

"Yes, I'm used to it." Vincent said.

"Has anything like this happened before?" Weiss asked.

"Only a week ago. It's a terrible time."

"As I thought. As I thought. Come on, we'd better get you home." The Doctor said.

"Where are you staying tonight?"

"Thanks for letting us stay with you!" Ruby said, happily. "You're very kind, Vincent."

Courtyard…

"It's a dark night tonight." Yang said. "Very starry. It's a starry night."

"It's not much. I live on my own. But you should be okay for one night. One night." Vincent said.

"We're going to stay with him?" Amy asked.

"Until he paints that church." The Doctor said.

"Watch out. That one's wet." Vincent said.

"What?" Ruby asked.

"One of my favorite Van Gogh's." Jared said, looking at the Bedroom in Arles. "We'll get back to Remnant after this, girls, I promise."

Vincent's home…

"Sorry about all the clutter." Vincent said.

"Some clutter." Weiss said, looking at all the paintings.

"I've come to accept the only person who's going to love my paintings is me."

"Wow. I mean, really. Wow." Amy said.

"Yeah, I know it's a mess. I'll have a proper clear out. I must, I really must." Vincent said.

"All these paintings are amazing." Weiss said.

"Tell me about it." Yang said, looking at Jared. "Why Vincent Van Gogh? We never heard about him until today."

"Yeah. Tell us." Ruby said, happily. "Why him?"

The Doctor, Amy, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Yang browse the pictures around the room as if they were in a gallery.

"Because Ozpin asked for a relaxing adventure. It was either staying at a house for a couple of days. Or this." Jared said.

"Coffee, anyone?" Vincent asked.

"Not for me, actually." The Doctor said.

"Just put in a blasphemous amount of cream and sugar for Ruby." Jared said, happily. "Two creams and two sugars for me."

"You know me so well." Ruby said, laughing a little.

"Well, Ruby does like her coffee." Weiss said. "Let me help with that."

Vincent puts the coffee pot down on a still life, "Okay. Weiss. You seem to know what your friends want. I'll let you take over."

Weiss then walked around the kitchen to find the ingredients to make the cups of coffee.

"You know, you should be careful with these paintings. They're precious." Yang said. "Precious to look at, at least."

"Precious to me. Not precious to anyone else." Vincent said.

"They're precious to me…" Amy said.

"Well, you're very kind. And kindness is most welcome."

Yang walked out of the house with Amy.

"So, how laid back is this adventure?" Weiss asked.

"As laid back as the next." Jared said, leaning against the wall. "And the next, well…"

"There's a bit of a gap." Ruby said. "I think. Am I right?"

"Yeah. There is. And I don't want to lose you three."

"Well, who will you bring with you and the Doctor?" Weiss asked. "After we help out Vincent."

Weiss passed two mugs of coffee to Ruby and Jared. She then passed one to Vincent while holding her own.

"Team Mikazuki Villa."

"Iroha, Yachiyo, Tsuruno, Felicia, and Sana?" Weiss asked.

"That's the team."

"Maybe you've had enough coffee now, Vincent. Let Ruby and Jared finish that up. How about some nice calming tea? Blake loves tea, if I recalled correctly. She's not here though. Let's get you a cup of chamomile or something, shall we? Amy. Yang. Where's Amy and Yang?" The Doctor asked, and there were screams outside. "No, no, no!"

Courtyard…

"Amy, Yang, what happened?" Jared asked.

"Don't know to be honest." Yang said. "We couldn't see what we were facing."

"And we were having a look at the paintings out here when something hit Yang from behind, making her bump into me." Amy said.

"It's okay. It's fine now." Weiss said. "We're here."

"No! No!" Vincent said.

"Take it easy. Take it easy!" The Doctor said.

Vincent is backing away from something only he can see.

"What's happening? What's he doing?" Ruby asked.

"I don't know. It could be a panic attack." Ruby said.

Vincent picks up a pitchfork.

"That's not good." Jared said, grabbing Ruby's hand.

"Run. Run!" Vincent said.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's not a bad idea. Amy, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, Yang, get back. He's having some kind of fit. I'll try to calm him down." The Doctor said, as Vincent is stabbing at the air. "Easy, Vincent, easy. Look. Look, look, look. It's me, it's me, it's me. It's the Doctor, look. No-one else is here. So, Vincent…"

"Look out!" Vincent said.

A barrel is knocked over then a large scaly tail sends the Doctor flying.

"Oh, that's gotta hurt." Yang said. "I should have taken that hit for you, Doctor."

"I can't see anything. What is it?" Amy asked.

"That is a good question. Let me help you." The Doctor said, grabbing a pole.

"You can see him, too?" Vincent asked.

"Yes. Ish. Well, no. Not really." The Doctor said, and he gets sent flying again.

"What's that?" Yang asked, when something growls.

"You couldn't see him?" Vincent asked.

"No. No. Oi!" The Doctor said, swinging wildly while Vincent plunges his pitchfork into the invisible enemy.

"I think he hurt it." Ruby said, sadly.

Wounded, it leaves.

"He did." Jared said, as Ruby grabbed his hand. "Thanks, Ruby."

The Doctor continues to fight the air.

"He's gone." Yang said, looking around. "By the looks of things. I think."

"Oh, right. Yes. Of course." The Doctor said.

Vincent's home…

"Okay, he's invisible." Ruby said. "So, what did he look like?"

"I'll show you." Vincent said, painting over a bunch of violets.

"Oh, no! Why do that?" Jared asked, looking at what Vincent is doing.

"What?"

"It's nothing. It was a good painting. Keep going, Vincent."

Vincent produces a charcoal sketch of a thing with a wicked beak, crest and claws.

"Okay. Okay. Right. Amy, Weiss, make Mister Van Gogh comfortable. Don't let any invisible monsters in through the front door." The Doctor said.

"But it could be outside, waiting." Amy said.

"Well, don't worry. I'll risk it. Come on, Ruby, Yang, and Jared. What's the worst that can happen?" The Doctor asked.

"You could get torn into pieces by a monster you can't see." Weiss said. "Jared, you did say you deflected 32 missiles once. And you messed up on a landing strategy by falling down on the floor. After breaking some glass. Which was really reckless."

"I know. I know." Jared said, rolling his eyes. "Ice Queen. You don't have to bring that up again. I promise we'll be safe."

"Don't worry, Jared can do the punching for me." Yang said, happily. "If he wants."

"We'll be back before you can say where's he got to now? Not that fast! But pretty fast. See you around, girls." The Doctor said.

Tardis…

The Doctor starts hunting through chests.

"So, what is he looking for? Ruby asked.

"A useless toy, I bet." Yang said, sitting on the stairs.

"More like it became useful today, Goldilocks." Jared said, eating some chocolate chip cookies. "Want one, Ruby?"

"Yes. Please!" Ruby said, grabbing the whole bag of chocolate chip cookies. "Homemade! Miku Kohinata?"

"Yup. She gave it last night."

"I thought you were just an embarrassing present from a dull godmother with two heads and bad breath. Twice. How wrong can a man be?" The Doctor asked, finding a gizmo with a rear view mirror fastened to the top and plugs it into the console.

"Is this like Face ID on an iPhone?" Yang asked, when the machine powers up and the Doctor stands in front of it and sticks his tongue out. "Are you doing that, Doctor?"

"Yup." The Doctor said, when the mirror lights up with Match Found Print Ready. It prints off a picture of William Hartnell, then the mirror changes to Patrick Troughton. "Good. Okay, you're working. Now, see what you make of this. Who is that?"

Ruby holds up the sketch of the monster. Ding. Match found print ready. A macaw.

"A macaw?" Ruby asked, looking at the image. "Was that it? Um, I don't think it was that bird."

"You're right, Ruby." The Doctor said. "There are thousands of them and you can see them plain as day."

"A polar bear?" Yang asked, laughing a little. "I bet Weiss would love that."

"Nope, she wouldn't." Jared said, as Yang has the chocolate chip cookies. "Don't snack on it. Me and Ruby only. And it wasn't that, either, Spaceman."

"This is the problem with the impressionists. Not accurate enough. This would never happen with Gainsborough or one of those proper painters." The Doctor said.

"Gah! We're not getting anywhere! Not enough leads. Sorry, Vincent. You will just have to draw something better." Ruby said, grabbing the cookies from Yang.

(Jared's POV)

Alleyway…

The Doctor leaves the Tardis with Ruby, Yang, and I. The Time Lord is wearing the gizmo on his chest, with the rear view mirror looking over his right shoulder. An image of the beast appears in it.

"What does it look like?" Ruby asked.

"And what species is it?" Yang asked.

"I don't remember." I said, squeezing Ruby's hand. "It's been a while since I watched this adventure."

The mirror says Krafayis. Planet of origin uncertain. Nomadic pack animals. Strict dominance hierarchy. Huge territories, several solar systems wide. Preferred habitat: Planets with oxygen and nitrogen based atmospheres.

"Aww, you poor thing." Ruby said, running towards the mirror. "You're a bit brutal. For a murderous, abandoned alien creature."

"I hope we meet again soon so I can take you home." The Doctor said.

"Doctor, it's right behind you." Yang said, walking over to the mirror.

The Doctor looks in the mirror again and realises it is right behind him, "You're right, Yang. Maybe not that soon."

Village...

We run, the creature chasing the Doctor, Ruby, Yang, and I only visible in the mirror.

"Girls, time to get destructive." I said, as Ruby, Yang, and I tried scattering benches and other objects to slow it down. "We need to slow it down."

"Take that, and that." Ruby said.

Eventually it leaves.

"It's gone." Yang said. "I didn't want to hurt that thing."

The Doctor, Ruby, Yang, and I look round the corner and see Amy and Weiss.

"Never do that! You scared the living daylights out of me." The Doctor said.

"Me too." Ruby said.

"Did you guys get bored?" Yang asked.

"Yes, we did." Any said.

"As much as you admire his command of colour and shape, it is hard to get fond of Vincent Van Gogh's snoring." Weiss said, crossing her arms. "Like, he snores really loud."

Vincent's bedroom...

"Wake, wakey, rise and shine!" The Doctor said.

"Come on, wake up, Vincent!" I said, excitedly. "Breakfast is in the courtyard."

"Whoa! What a morning. Come on. And Amy's got a little surprise for you." The Doctor said.

Courtyard...

"I thought I'd brighten things up to thank you for saving me and Yang last night." Amy said.

"It took a lot of time to find all of these sunflowers." Yang said. "But it was so worth it in the end."

Lots of sunflowers in lots of pots.

"Ah." Vincent said.

"I thought you might like, you know, possibly to perhaps paint them or something? Might be a thought." Amy said.

"Yes, well, they're not my favourite flower." Vincent said.

"You don't like sunflowers?"

"No, it's not that I don't like them. I find them complex. Always somewhere between living and dying. Half-human as they turn to the sun. A little disgusting. But, you know, they are a challenge."

"Also, you'll rise soon, too, Vincent." I said, happily. "As high and mighty as sunflowers."

"He's right. But, moving on, there's something I need to show you." The Doctor said.

Vincent's home…

"It still looks like a giant bird." Ruby said. "A huge bird."

The printout from the gizmo.

"That's him. And the eyes, without mercy." Vincent said.

"This is a creature called the Krafayis. They travel in space. They travel as a pack, scavenging across the universe. And sometimes one of them gets left behind. And because they are a brutal race, the others never come back. So, dotted all around the universe are individual, utterly merciless, utterly abandoned Krafayis. And what they do is, well, kill, until they're killed. Which they usually aren't. Because other creatures can't see them." The Doctor said.

"But you can, Vincent." Ruby said, happily.

"Yes. And that's why we are in a unique position today, my friend, to end this reign of terror. So, feeling like painting the church today?" The Doctor asked, looking at Vincent.

"What about the monster?" Vincent asked.

"All you have to do is paint it." Weiss said. "It'll come."

"Okay. I'll get my things."

"Take your time, Vincent. We'll be gone tomorrow by this time. I promise." I said, grabbing Ruby's hand.

Vincent goes into the other room.

"This is a bad idea. And really risky." Weiss said.

"It is riskier than normal?" Yang asked.

"Think about it, Goldilocks." I said, squeezing Ruby's hand. "This is the middle of Vincent Van Gogh's greatest year of painting."

"If we're not careful, the net result of our pleasant little trip will be the brutal murder of the greatest artist who ever lived. Half the pictures on the wall of the Muse D'Orsay will disappear. And it will be our fault." The Doctor said.

Vincent's bedroom…

I knocked and entered with the Doctor. Vincent is lying face down on his little bed, crying.

"Vincent, are you okay?" I asked, walking towards Vincent. "Need some help with things? Want a cup of coffee? Anything? Really."

"It's so clear that neither of you cannot help. And when you leave, and everyone always leaves, I will be left once more with an empty heart and no hope." Vincent said.

"Don't say that, Vincent. I've been with Team RNJR, Weiss, and Yang. Along with Symphogear, Magical Girls, and survivors of Sword Art Online for so long now. That there's always hope. I've known that for like, forever now. So don't give up, okay?"

"Then your experience is incomplete. I know how it will end. And it will not end well."

"Jared's right, don't give up, Vincent. Come on. Come out. Come on, let's go outside." The Doctor said.

"Get out! You get out. What are you doing here? What are you doing here?" Vincent asked.

"Very well. We'll leave. We'll leave you."

Courtyard…

"What's happening?" Ruby asked.

"We're leaving, Little Red." I said, taking out some custard filled donuts to eat them. "Ice Queen, Goldilocks. Come on!"

"Everyone knows he's a delicate man. Just months from now he'll, he'll take his own life." The Doctor said.

"Don't say that. Please." Amy said.

Vincent's home…

The Doctor looks at the picture Prisoners Exercising.

"I guess we have to do this on our own." Ruby said. "Come on, team."

"Go to the church at the right time and hope the monster still turns up." The Doctor said.

"I'm ready. Let's go." Vincent said.

(Open POV)

Road…

"So, what's the plan?" Yang asked. "You must have one."

"Making sure Vincent doesn't get killed." Jared said, happily. "And the Doctor isn't an idiot."

"You mean you'll be an idiot." Weiss said.

"Right…"

"You sure you won't need us? For the next adventure with the Doctor." Ruby said, holding Jared's hand.

"Positive."

"If you end up dying whatever comes next for you and the Doctor. I might not forgive you for that." Weiss said.

"Okay. Okay. So, now, we must have a plan. When the creature returns…" The Doctor said.

"Then we shall fight him again." Vincent said.

"Well, yes, tick. But last night we were lucky. Amy and Yang could have been killed. So this time, for a start, we have to make sure I can see him too."

"I wasn't able to see him before." Jared said, taking out the augmented reality headband. "I chatted with Yui Kirigaya, Touka Satomi, and Elfnein last night. They helped me modify this a bit. While still retaining the features of this amazing piece of 2020s tech. Now I'm able to do what I should have done last night. Ordinal Scale, activate."

The screens went on and in Jared's view, he's able to see the data of people and places, while getting brief summaries about them.

"And how are we meant to do that, suddenly?" Amy asked.

"The answer's in this box. I had an excellent, if smelly, godmother." The Doctor said.

They meet a funeral procession coming the other way.

"Oh no, it's that poor girl from the village." Vincent said.

They stand aside respectfully as the coffin is carried past, with a bouquet of sunflowers on it.

"You do have a plan, don't you?" Amy asked.

"No. It's a thing. It's like a plan, but with more greatness." The Doctor said.

Auvers Churchyard…

"And you'll be sure to tell me if you see any, you know, monsters." The Doctor said.

"Yes. While I may be mad, I'm not stupid." Vincent said.

"No. Quite. And, to be honest, I'm not sure about mad either. It seems to me depression is a very complex…"

"Shush. I'm working."

"Well, yes. Paint. Do painting! I remember watching Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel. Wow! What a whinger. I kept saying to him, look, if you're scared of heights, you shouldn't have taken the job then."

"Shut up, Doctor." Weiss said, angrily. "Let Vincent work."

"And Picasso. What a ghastly old goat. I kept telling him, concentrate, Pablo. It's one eye, either side of the face." The Doctor said.

"Be quiet." Yang said.

"How's Kamihama City?" Weiss asked. "And Mitakihara and Kazamino."

"Iroha said that Kamihama was a wreck." Jared said. "The Wings of Magius, well, they're having a trial."

"A trial?" Ruby asked. "Why?"

"Isn't that a bit…" Yang said. "Extreme?"

"Even though they were the cause of it." Jared said, sadly. "Putting Iroha and the others in pain. The Magius as a whole. To all the Magical Girls in Kamihama. I get their intentions. I do."

"But you don't agree with it." Weiss said. "Since they caused pain and suffering to all."

"Yeah...I hope Touka and Nemu are proved innocent. It's been about a year. I think. Since Walpurgisnacht. And everything is mostly normal over there."

"That's good." Ruby said. "So, what are we gonna do about Salem? And Oscar? Got any ideas? With your foreknowledge."

"No, I'm pretty stumped, girls. All I know is that something bad will happen. I can feel it." Jared said.

"Whatever is coming." Weiss said. "We're here to support you."

"Whether it is the Master, Salem, or Davros." Yang said. "We can beat them down."

"The problem is, we don't know what Salem looks like." Ruby said.

"I sorta forgot what she looked like." Jared said, letting out a sigh. "Sorry. And my foreknowledge for Remnant. For our adventures together. It's running out. We're reaching the point where I won't know anything soon."

Later, an owl hoots. The picture is almost finished.

"Is this how time normally passes? Really slowly. In the right order. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's an unpunctual alien attack." The Doctor said.

"Are you okay? You seem a bit, if I didn't know you better, I'd say nervous." Amy said.

"Yes, there's something not right and I can't quite put my finger on it."

"There. He's at the window." Vincent said.

"Where?" Ruby asked.

"There, on the right." Vincent said.

"Awesome. Come on, Raggedy Man, Little Red, Ice Queen, and Goldilocks!" Jared said, excitedly. "We're heading in."

"Well I'm coming too." Vincent said.

"No! You're Vincent Van Gogh. No." The Doctor said.

"But Doctor, you're not armed." Vincent said.

"I am."

"What with?"

"Overconfidence, this, and a small screwdriver. I'm absolutely sorted. Just have to find the right crosactic setting and stun him with it. Sonic never fails." The Doctor said.

"I have Ebb and Flow." Jared said, and his dual swords appeared in his hands.

"I have Crescent Rose!" Ruby said, releasing her scythe. "I love it so much!"

"I have my Myrtenaster." Weiss said, taking out her rapier.

"And I have Ember Celica." Yang said. "Or one half of it. I'm armed and ready though."

"Anyway, Amy, only one thought, one simple instruction. Don't follow us under any circumstances." The Doctor said.

"I won't." Amy said.

The Doctor ran off with Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Yang.

"Will you follow them?" Vincent asked.

"Of course." Amy said.

"I love you."

The church porch is decorated with St Michael slaying the dragon. The Doctor gets out the gizmo and puts it on, then goes inside with the three huntresses and the defender of Earth.

Church...

"Let's do this, guys." Jared said, smiling. "If all comes to worse, we'll use team attacks."

"Which ones?" Weiss asked.

The Krafayis can be heard but not seen.

"Crimson Archer, Frostbite, and Burn a Gundam?" Jared asked.

The Doctor scans with the sonic screwdriver.

"Ice Flower and Freezerburn could work too." Ruby said.

Road...

"Has he moved?" Amy asked.

"No. Just shifted to the next window. But, wait! He's turning now." Vincent said.

Church…

"Damn, he moved." Yang said.

The Krafayis smashes the mirror on the Doctor's gizmo.

"This is just great." Weiss said, holding her Myrtenaster.

Auvers Churchyard…

"Doctor? Jared?" Amy asked.

"Amy!" Vincent said.

Church…

"Guys, let's get out of here!" Jared said, running for the door with Ruby, Weiss, and Yang. "I'm able to see it. But I don't want to lose the Augma."

The Doctor runs for the door.

"Doctor! Jared! Team RWY." Amy said, looking at the five. "Okay, that last one sounded so weird. You're right, Team RWBY is better sounding. Even if it's confusing. Because Ruby and RWBY."

"Argh! I thought I told you. Never mind. We'll talk about it later. Quick, in here." The Doctor said, getting into a confessional with Amy. "Absolutely quiet. Can you breath a little quieter, please?"

"Where?" Ruby asked, and Jared pointed towards Amy's side of the confessional. "Freezerburn!"

Weiss freezes the ground with her Myrtenaster as Yang jumps into the air and she proceeded to punch the ground while firing Ember Celica.

The evaporation created a mist which can be utilized for cover and creates opportunities for sneak attacks.

Jared looked down at Ebb and Flow and he turned it into its bow form, "Crimson Archer!"

Ruby used her semblance to wrap around Jared, and the fanboy launched slow down arrows at the Krafayis.

The silver eyed girl then landed her and Jared back onto the floor, "Now what?"

"Ice Flower!" Jared said, happily.

Weiss uses her glyphs to encase Ruby's sniper bullets in ice.

The ice enhances Ruby's attack, and the area where the bullet hits is frozen on impact.

"I have to admit, that was nice planning." Weiss said, when Vincent entered.

The Krafayis broke free from the ice and it got its speed and momentum back.

"Hey! Are you looking for me, sonny? Come on, over here. Because I'm right here waiting for you." Vincent said, and he fends off the Krafayis with a chair. "Come on. Quickly. Get behind me."

The Doctor and Amy exited the confessional.

The Doctor tries his sonic screwdriver, "Doing anything?"

"Uh uh." Vincent said.

Outside the Church…

"Where is he?" Ruby asked.

"Where do you think he is, you dunce? Use your head." Weiss said. "He's invisible and only Vincent can see it. Jared too, if his Augma doesn't break."

"Got anything?" Yang asked.

"Nothing. In fact, he seemed to rather enjoy it." Vincent said.

"Okay, I love this." Jared said, happily. "Way too much."

"Duck! Left." Vincent said, while the Doctor gets thrown against a wall. "Right, sorry. Your right, my left."

"This is no good at all. Run like crazy and regroup." The Doctor said.

"Oh, come on, in here." Amy said.

Crypt…

The Krafayis jams its foot in the door to stop them closing it, so Vincent stamps on it. The door closes.

"Right. Okay. Here's the plan. Jared, Ruby, Weiss, Yang, Amy, Rory." The Doctor said.

"Who?" Amy asked.

"Who's Rory?" Jared asked. "I don't know anyone called that."

"Sorry. Er, Vincent." The Doctor said.

"What's the plan?" Weiss asked. "Jared kept saying he had a plan. I guess he meant yours."

"I don't know, actually. My only definite plan is that in future I'm definitely just using this screwdriver for screwing in screws." The Doctor said.

"Give me a second. I'll be back." Vincent said.

"Oh, maybe we can talk to him." Ruby said. "It usually works. I think."

"Talk to him?" Yang asked. "You sure?"

"Positive. We need to know his side of the story."

"I think that's a bad idea, he's not in the mood for it." Jared said, when the beast hammers on the door.

"I think there's no harm trying." Weiss said. "Do it, Doctor. Just do it."

"Listen. Listen! I know you can understand me, even though I know you won't understand why you can understand me. I also know that no one's talked to you for a pretty long stretch, but please, listen. I also don't belong on this planet. I also am alone. If you trust me, I'm sure we can come to some kind of, you know, understanding. And then, and then, who knows?" The Doctor asked.

"The window." Weiss said, and a window is broken in.

"It's here." Yang said, as the invisible beast enters.

"Over here, mate!" Vincent said, as they hide behind a stone monument.

Vincent has fetched his easel and is brandishing it with its three pointed feet forwards.

"Wood gives off splinters." Ruby said. "It's gonna hurt. What's it doing?"

"It's moving round the room. Feeling its way around." Vincent said.

"What?" Weiss asked. "Why is it doing that?"

"It's trapped. I think it's moving around the corners of the room." Jared said, using the Augma to see the Krafayis. "Like when you're doing a boxing match."

"I can't see anything." Yang said, squinting.

"I am really stupid." The Doctor said.

"Oh, get a grip! This is not a moment to re-evaluate your self-esteem." Amy said, angrily.

"No, I am really stupid, and I'm growing old. Why does it attack but never eat its victims? And why was it abandoned by its pack and left here to die? And why is it feeling its way helplessly around the walls of the room? It can't see. It's blind. Yes, and that explains why it has such perfect hearing!"

"Like Tyrian!" Ruby said. "He's a scorpion Faunus!"

"He is blind. From what you told us, Jared." Weiss said.

"That explains why you had trouble with him." Yang said. "If only he was an Earthbender."

"Did you really compare Tyrian to Toph?" Jared asked. "I shouldn't have made you watch Avatar. Toph is the greatest Earthbender in the world of Avatar. And it's turning around and heading straight for us!"

Jared looking at Ruby, Weiss, Yang, the Doctor, Amy, and Vincent.

"Vincent. Jared. Vincent, Jared, what's happening?" The Doctor asked.

"It's charging now. Get back. Get back!" Vincent said, while the Krafayis skewers itself on the easel and lifts Vincent into the air. Then it falls to the floor, mortally wounded. "He wasn't without mercy at all. He was without sight. I didn't mean that to happen. I only meant to wound it, I never meant to…"

"He's trying to say something."

"What is it?" Weiss asked.

"I'm having trouble making it out, but I think he's saying, I'm afraid. I'm afraid. There, there. Shush, shush. It's okay, it's okay. You'll be fine. Shush." The Doctor said.

"He was frightened, and he lashed out. Like humans who lash out when they're frightened. Like the villagers who scream at me. Like the children who throw stones at me." Vincent said.

"Sometimes winning, winning is no fun at all." Ruby said, sadly.

Field…

The Doctor, Amy, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, Yang, and Vincent van Gogh lie on the ground and look up at the night sky.

"Hold my hand, Doctor, Jared. Try to see what I see. We are so lucky we are still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky. It's not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue. And over there, lighter blue. And blowing through the blueness and the blackness, the wind swirling through the air and then, shining, burning, bursting through, the stars. Can you see how they roar their light? Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes." Vincent said.

"Ruby, Weiss, Yang, meet the Starry Night!" Jared said, excitedly.

"Now that's cool." Yang said, smiling.

"Cool enough to not have me mad at you later, Jared." Weiss said. "Don't mess up again."

"It's super awesome!" Ruby said. "And Jared, don't get yourself killed. After resting with us."

"I've seen many things, my friend. But you're right. Nothing quite as wonderful as the things you see." The Doctor said, looking at Vincent.

"I will miss you terribly." Vincent said.

(Jared's POV)

Vincent's home…

"I only wish I had something of real value to give you." Vincent said, giving his self-portrait in a Straw Hat.

"Oh, no, no, no. I could never accept such an extraordinary gift." The Doctor said.

"Very well. You're not the first to decline the offer. Amy, the blessed, the wonderful." Vincent said.

"This adventure was laid back." Weiss said.

"When was Jared ever wrong?" Yang asked.

"There were a lot of adventures to count." Weiss said.

"I will, I will. And if you tire of this Doctor and Jared of yours, return, and we will have children by the dozen." Vincent said.

"Eek." Amy said.

"Doctor, Jared, my friends. We have fought monsters together and we have won. On my own, I fear I may not do as well."

Courtyard…

"Amy, Little Red, Ice Queen, Goldilocks." I said, holding Ruby's hand. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking? As well as what the Doctor was thinking."

"I was thinking I may need some food or something before we leave." Amy said.

I could rest." Weiss said. "It's been a long few days."

"Tell me about it. We need to sleep." Yang said.

"No, you're not thinking the same thing they were!" Ruby said, annoyed.

"Vincent! We've got something we'd like to show you." The Doctor said.

"Maybe fix yourself up first, Vincent." I said, squeezing Ruby's hand. "You look a bit awful. Sorry to say it, but you look really tired."

Alleyway…

"Talk about a mess." Weiss said.

The Tardis has been covered in advertising posters.

"Yup." I said, laughing a lot. "That's what we get for leaving it alone for a few days."

"Now, you know we've had quite a few chats about the possibility there might be more to life than normal people imagine?" The Doctor asked.

"Yes." Vincent said.

"Well, brace yourself, Vinny." The Doctor said.

"Because besides me defeating monsters with Ruby, Weiss, and Yang. I do this with the Doctor and Amy." I said, as we have the usual performance of inside, outside, walk around and go in again. "This is basically every other day for me. Being a part of all that."

"How come I'm the crazy one, and you six have stayed sane?" Vincent asked, inside the TARDIS.

Tardis…

"What do these things all do?" Vincent asked.

"A lot of things, actually." Yang said, smirking.

"This one plays soothing music." Weiss said, pressing a button to her voice singing Mirror Mirror. "How did that…"

"You said soothing music." I said, leaning against the TARDIS console.

"So, you find all of my performances soothing?"

"Well, yeah. I do. It helps me fight on, Weiss."

"Oh, this one makes a lot of noise." Ruby said, pressing a button on the TARDIS console for some Noise plushies to land on the floor. "That's not what I meant!"

"And this one makes everything go absolutely tonto." The Doctor said, as the Tardis jerks into flight.

"And this one?" Vincent asked.

"That's a friction contrafibulator!" The Doctor said.

"And this?"

"That's ketchup. And that one's mustard." I said, running around the TARDIS console room. "Or as I would like to call them. One of them is Chris Yukine. And the other is Hibiki Tachibana!"

"Mmm, nice. Come on, back to the cafe and the both of you can tell me about all the wonders of the universe." Vincent said.

"Good idea. Although, actually, there's a little something Jared and I would like to show you first." The Doctor said.

Outside the Muse…

"Where are we?" Vincent asked.

"Somewhere cool." Ruby said, happily.

The time flight is burning the posters off the Tardis.

"Welcome to Paris, France." I said, holding Ruby's hand. "It is the year 2010 AD. 120 years into your future, Vincent."

"And this is the mighty Muse D'Orsay, home to many of the greatest paintings in history." The Doctor said.

"Oh, that's wonderful." Vincent said.

Two lads walk past listening to a radio.

"Yeah, that's not wonderful." Weiss said.

"It's just a radio." Yang said. "A portable music player. Probably ignore that."

"They're right. Jared and I have got something more important to show you." The Doctor said.

Muse d'Orsay…

Background music is Chances by Athlete as they enter the Muse.

"Take all your chances while you can. You never know when they'll pass you by. Like the sum the mathematician cannot solve. Like me trying my hardest to explain." The singer said, while we're walking into the van Gogh exhibition. "It's all about your cries and kisses, and those first steps that I can't calculate."

"Doctor Black, we met a few days ago. I asked you about the church at Auvers." The Doctor said.

"Oh, yes. Glad to be of help. You were nice about my tie." Black said.

"Yes. And today is another cracker if I may say so. But I just wondered, between you and me, in a hundred words, where do you think Van Gogh rates in the history of art?"

"Well, big question, but to me, Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly, the most popular great painter of all time. The most beloved. His command of colour, the most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world. No one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world's greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived." Black said.

"That's an awesome speech." Ruby said, looking at me. "Neither of us could have said something like that."

"Nope." I said, laughing a little.

Vincent bursts into tears.

"That was really wholesome." Weiss said.

"Now I see why you wanted to bring us here." Yang said. "After everything we had to deal with recently. Us being separated for too long."

"Yup." I said, smirking. "It's been a long time. I wanted something easy."

"Vincent. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Is it too much?" The Doctor asked.

"No. They are tears of joy. Thank you, sir. Thank you." Vincent said, kissing Doctor Black on both cheeks and hugs him.

"You're welcome. You're welcome." Black said.

"Sorry about the beard."

Black takes a few steps, stops, turn then mouths No.

(Open POV)

Olive grove…

"This changes everything. I'll step out tomorrow with my easel on my back a different man. I still can't believe that one of the haystacks was in the museum. How embarrassing." Vincent said, happily.

"It's been a great adventure and a great honour." The Doctor said.

"You've turned out to be the first doctor ever actually to make a difference to my life." Vincent said.

"I'm delighted. I won't ever forget you."

"It was nice meeting you, Vincent." I said, holding Ruby's hand. "The three of us had a rough few years. We didn't see each other for a long time."

"We needed this." Yang said.

"So thank you." Weiss said.

"Thanks!" Ruby said, excitedly.

"You're very welcome." Vincent said. "And Amy, you are sure marriage is out of the question?"

"This time. I'm not really the marrying kind. Come on. Let's go back to the gallery right now." Amy said.

Outside the Muse…

"Time can be re-written. I know it can. Come on! Oh, the long life of Vincent Van Gogh. There'll be hundreds of new paintings." Amy said.

"I'm not sure there will be any." Weiss said, sadly. "Don't get your hopes up, Amy. Vincent was more delicate than me and Jared."

Muse d'Orsay…

"Come on!" Amy said, annoyed.

"We have here the last work of Vincent Van Gogh, who committed suicide at only thirty seven. He is now acknowledged to be one of the foremost artists of all time. If you follow me now." Black said, as I looked over at him.

"So you were right. Ice Queen. No new paintings. We didn't make a difference at all." Amy said.

"I wouldn't say that. The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Hey. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things." The Doctor said, hugging Amy.

"Oh, we made a couple of little changes, Amy." Ruby said, running over to the painting of the church, dragging me with her. "Look."

"Wow." Yang said, shocked. "It was like it was never there."

"No Krafayis." Amy said.

"No Krafayis." The Doctor said.

"The painting now looks better than it did then." Weiss said.

"Yeah." I said, letting go of Ruby's hand. "I prefer it like this."

Amy goes over to the Still Life with Twelve Sunflowers. It has For Amy, Vincent written on the vase.

"If we had got married, our kids would have had very, very red hair." Amy said.

"The ultimate ginger." The Doctor said.

"The ultimate ginge. Brighter than sunflowers."
