BRIA
I was sick of staying locked inside the room and crying my heart out. I needed to take my mind off of things and to worsen my situation, the nightmares and void of the devil's absence annoyed me to the point that I thought I would go insane if I stayed there any minute longer.
So I decided to do what could help me distract my mind. I freshened up and got ready to go for a run after changing into comfortable clothes. I left my room and walked through the hallway. My pace slowed down while passing in front of Samuel's room.
If that was the devil's room with my pictures all over it, then I would have jumped in glee, clapping my hands in joy. But the fact that it was a room of a man that I barely knew and was a distant cousin in relation to me made me feel more than just uncomfortable with the situation.
My ears perked up when I heard noises coming from inside.
"Caroline, how can I keep calm if he acts this way?" Benji's voice was full of irritation.
"Father, please. I have handled it well." Samuel tried to convince his father.
"No. You didn't, Samuel. Bria almost got to know everything last night. She is a smart girl. It will not take her long to put all the pieces in the place. We all have worked hard to keep everything away from her so don't blow it up" Benji was furious.
"It's not my fault that we are in this position. Everything was going smooth according to our plan when that bastard King fucked up everything for us." Samuel's outburst caught me by surprise.
Yes! The devil was no less than a bastard, but he was MY bastard and only I had a right to insult him that way! My jaw ticked in irritation.
"Samuel, you said that Bria asked about them last night right?"
"Yes. She was asking about those four men but I know what exactly she wanted to ask very well" Samuel gritted his teeth.
"Son. Take it easy." Benji advised.
"Yes, father. I am taking it easy. But let me tell you one thing... I love Bria! I have waited my whole life for her and I am not letting anyone take her away from me. Not even that King!"
Holy Shit!
If these three months never happened, then I might have felt thrilled at the thought of me and Samuel. I might have accepted everything easily, compared to now. If it was not for these three months, then I might have not been hurting this way.
If it was not for that stone-faced, cold-hearted, self-centred, egotistic jerk of a devil with those hypnotising eyes and his vice-like grip on my heart and soul, it might have been less complicated for me to differentiate between what I really wanted and what really I need.
Whenever I had a hard time thinking or deciding something, I always relied on Benji, but this time... I didn't even know him anymore. He was like a completely different person disguised as my loving old man. I was perplexed about what was right and what was wrong. I was torn between the truth and the lies. I was getting lost in the maze of secrets and lies.
I found Samuel walking out of the house while speaking on the phone, and I rushed toward him with a plan on my mind.
He was surprised that I was all smiling at him but was also happy to see that. I convinced him to take me with him and then we could go for dinner at his favourite place. He was nervous about his father, but when I assured him to handle Benji, he agreed.
"But... are you sure you want to spend your time with me?" I hated to lie to him when he gave me that dreamy look like a lover from Shakespeare's drama, but that was what I needed to do.
"Of course, Sam. Don't you want the same?"
I gasped in surprise when he pulled me into a hug and rested his chin on my shoulder. "non hai idea di quanto abbia aspettato questo giorno. Il giorno in cui sarai mio per sempre. (You have no idea how much I have waited for this day. The day when you will be mine forever.)" he murmured, thinking I didn't understand Italian at all.
But he was mistaken as though no expert, I could place the random words' meanings together and guess what he said.
I pulled away from him, smiling at him "What you said? Sorry I don't understand Italian."
He smiled down at me affectionately. "Nothing. Let's go!"
Samuel decided to drive himself as he wanted some privacy for us. I was as nervous as hell. If I messed up this chance, then I was not sure of getting the second one.
Samuel might act and look peace-loving, caring and gentle around me, but I have noticed some strange things about him. He was not someone who would tolerate betrayal from me. So, I had to take every step carefully.
I was careful to make light conversations with Samuel to not let him be suspicious. We were laughing and talking when his phone rang. My eyes perked up to pick on what little Italian I understood.
All he said was, "Ok. Organizza un incontro con loro e voglio anche che Mancini sia lì. Sì. Voglio anche incontrare questo nostro nuovo amico.(Ok. Arrange a meeting with them and also I want Mancini to be there. Yes. I also want to meet this new friend of us.)"
He wrapped the call immediately, probably because of me. But this call showed me my way to follow as I heard the name of Mancini.
I had a very bad feeling about this, but I had to find it out. How did Samuel know Mancini?
I carried on with my act until we reached an isolated place. The car stopped in front of an old building that looked like an old factory or a warehouse. There were no people and that only added to that creepy tranquillity of the place.
"Bria, wait here for me. I'll be right back." He removed his seat belt.
"But Sam, what work do you have here in this old building? Can I please come with you? I don't want to be alone in such a creepy place." I pouted.
He took my face in his hands, and I clutched the hem of my shirt. "Sorry, Princess but I can't take you in. There will be many men who works in my factory. Try to understand. But if you are not feeling ok to stay alone then I will send someone to look after you."
"Um... no... no. It's fine. Just come fast. I'll wait for you in the car." I assured him.
He left not before locking the car, but I was a step ahead of him. I had already opened my side of the door when he was not paying attention. I waited until I saw him disappear inside the building.
My instincts told me that something was not right. I hopped out of the car and ran towards the entrance only to find two burly men guarding it.
Damn it!
I had no weapon, no help and no backup. I was on my own with only my brain, and I decided to use just that.
I began searching for another entrance to the building and luckily, I found a broken window. I had to remove the remaining pieces of the glass to avoid getting cut while trying to sneak in.
And when I finally landed inside, the bile rose in my throat as the hair in my nostrils burned with the awful smell.
I just landed inside the men's washroom!
What an entry Bria!!
I pulled up the neckline of my shirt to cover my nose.
I waited for a minute to confirm that I was alone there. When no sound came for a minute, I slowly unlocked the door and stepped outside the washroom. It was an old building made up of bricks and many large pillars to support the roof. I hide behind a wall to analyse the situation. If I got caught, then it was over for me!
Living the life of James Bond, I peeked outside to see a large hall where three men were busy drinking and playing cards. And to my left was a staircase.
To not take any chances, I removed my shoes and checked for any accessories that would create trouble for me. Thank god, I had no phone with me, or it would have ringed at the wrong time, just like they show in the movies.
I tied my hair up in a ponytail and breathed out of my mouth before darting out of the washroom on light feet and towards the staircase. Once outside those men's eyesight, I pressed my back against the wall as I continued climbing the stairs.
On the first floor, I saw two men walking in my way, but they were so engrossed in their talk that they didn't notice me... yet. The only hideout I found was a large pillar that covered me completely behind it.
"ehi, l'hai sentito?(hey, did you feel that?)" One of them stopped walking, looking around suspiciously.
"Che cosa?(What?)"
"Ho sentito un po 'di movimento qui(I felt some movement here)" the man pointed my way.
I didn't really understand what they were talking about, but from their gesture, I figured that they were talking about me. I covered my mouth with my shaking hands to not let out any sound. My heart thudded vigorously when the other man walked straight in my way. Small beads of sweat rolled down from my forehead.
No... no... no. Please god, help me!
He was a few feet away from me when his partner called him. "Dimenticalo. Dobbiamo andare. Dobbiamo tenere compagnia a Boss's girlfriend (Forget it. We have to go. We have to keep company to Boss's girlfriend)"
Both men went down, and I released a breath of relief. Boss's GIRLFRIEND? When did I agree to such a thing? I scoffed and looked around. There was a large closed door to my opposite side.
In no time, those men would inform Samuel about my disappearance. I had to hurry. Without wasting another minute, I ran towards that door and pushed it open, only to enter a dimly lit hallway with many doors on both sides.
But I followed the noises that came from at the end of the hallway. I crouched down when I reached there only to find the way leading to another staircase that took me one floor down and into a large hall.
I squinted my eyes to try to see in the dark end of the hall from where grunted sounds came from.
"If you think that this is the worst then you are sadly mistaken. It's just a beginning." I was shocked to hear Samuel's cold and vicious voice.
A man murmured something in his ear to which he replied in satisfaction. "They are already here? Good"
It meant more people were coming here.
I broke inside the building, playing James Bond in overconfidence, but I never gave a thought to what I would do if I found my men here. Shit! How could you be so thoughtless, Bria? I facepalmed in annoyance. Before doing anything, first I had to confirm my assumptions. If only I could get a better view...
I shrieked in horror cum surprised when someone grabbed me by my hair, gripping them hard. Every eye turned in my direction, but a pair of amber-coloured ones was more shocked than others. I saw Samuel's lips move slowly, saying my name.
I turned to see the same men who went to keep watch on me, holding me tight in their painful grip. I screamed at them, telling them to let me go while they dragged me down to their boss like a ragged sack. They stood in front of Samuel whose face was void, but his eyes... they were burning inferno.
"Capo. Quando arriviamo alla tua macchina, lei non c'era. L'abbiamo trovata di nascosto qui(Boss. When we get to your car she was not there. We found her sneaking here)" the man said haughtily. I heard some movement from the dark side of the hall, followed by grunting and mumbling. But I was too focused on watching Samuel.
"Remove your hands from her." He ordered through gritted teeth.
"Boss..."
"I said get your hands off her" Samuel emphasised every word with his brows creased in the middle. His amber-coloured eyes didn't move away from my face since they first landed on me.
The men unwillingly let me free from their hold. I gasped in surprise when Samuel pulled me towards his side, hiding me behind his back protectively.
"How dare you hurt her or treat her like that?" Samuel's voice rumbled around like a thundering cloud.
Before I could understand anything, he pulled out his knife and slashed the throat of the man who dragged me down by the hair.
Samuel threw the knife away and slowly turned to face me. I was too shocked to react when he neared me and touched my shoulders.
"I-I am sorry, Princess. I didn't mean you to witness this but he hurt you. I-"
I shook off his hands from my shoulder and slapped him with all my might. His face turned sideways at the impact. Hot tears gathered in my eyes as my body trembled with anger.
"How could you be this heartless, Sam? I have never imagined this dark side of yours. Do you have any idea what Benji and aunt Caroline will feel when they get to know that their only son is a bloody fucking murderer?" I yelled.
"Bria, please. Let me explain first. I did all this because I love you, princess" I was taken aback when he hugged me trapping me in his hands. He buried his face in my neck, making me feel disgusted.
I struggled to get out of his hold. "Sam... what are you doing? Leave me. Sam" I tried to push him away from me, but he didn't budge.
"Samuel. What the hell is going on?" Benji ran down the stairs, followed by worried-looking aunt Caroline.
Samuel pulled away from me, but he never left his hold on my hand.
Benji tried to get near us, but Samuel stopped him by showing his hand. "No father. It's good that she gets to know this. I can't wait anymore... I am gonna finish everything here and now." he turned to look at me, grabbing my face in his other hand. "I am going to make you mine, princess. Because you are meant for me. You are mine."
I was too disgusted at him to say a word.
"No. She is not!"
