Chapter 3

"I'm very sorry for my shameful behaviour."

I said to the captain while bowing my head to him. Because of how stupid I was spending my energy and time thinking many useless things because of my stupid conclusions, I ended up cussing in someone's office without realizing it.

"HAHAHAHA!!!! Don't worry about it, after all if someone found out I am level 1 as well at your age I might even do worse, like committing suicide. HAHAHAHA!!!!" (Captain)

"hahaha...."

(Thank god, he's not pissed.)

"Well, anyway, there is no problem now, so you can pass. But, since you can't pay the toll, you will need to sign a paper and pay the toll after 10 days."(Captain)

I immediately ask the captain.

"What will happened if I can't pay the toll?"

"Well, obviously, we will ask you to get out of the town if you still haven't get out within 10 days. Although, if you will resist, then we will have no choice but to put you in prison."(Captain)

"Then, how much do I need to pay?"

I decided to ask the amount instead of asking things which makes me curious like how will they find me later or how long I will be put in prison if I resist, etc since I have a feeling it will attract suspicion towards me. It makes me feel the saying of curiosity kills the cat really is true.

After the captain told me how much the amount of the toll, I also asked the captain other things like a place to sleep and also any place to work so I can get the amounf of money I need. After all, with my current condition, I really am in need of a place to sleep and money, and if I can get a good information just by asking at the cost of annoying someone, then obviously, I will take it. Though, the captain answers me without a hint of annoyed tones in his answers and also with a hearty laugh.

(This guy, is actually a really good guy, I guess.)

"So, is there anything else you need to know?"(Captain)

(Hmmm.....)

"I don' think there's anything else."

"Is that so? Good! Well, if later you have anything else you want to ask about you can just ask any guard you meet in the town."(Captain)

"Yes."

" Hugo, take care of the papers and send him off will ya?"(Captain)

"Yes, sir."(Hugo)

The guard saluted him then says to me.

"Follow me."(Hugo)

"Okay. Also, thank you very much Captain. Then, please excuse me."

After giving the captain my gratitude and excuse myself as polite as possible, I follow the guard out of the Captain's office. After walking for a while we reach another room. The guard tells me to sit on the chair the farthest from the door and I do what he said. The guard then takes out a paper from a drawer in the room and takes a seat on the chair opposite of me.

"Can you write?"(Hugo)

"I can't."

Which is a matter of course since I don't even know what language they used in this country.

(Wait, now that I think about it, how in heck do I manage to strike a conversation until now?)

While I was thinking that, suddenly the face of the guard appears really close in front of me.

"HEY!!! KID!!!!"(Hugo)

"Waaaahh!!!!"

"Finally got your attention, did you hear what I just asked you earlier?"(Hugo)

"S-sorry, can you repeat it once again?"

I asked the guard while making apologetic expression.

"Haaah~, I asked you your name since I will fill the form for you."(Hugo)

"Oh, sorry to trouble you. My name is Sawada Saito."

The guard in front of me drop his quill with his jaw opened. A moment later, he hold his quill on his hand again and this time said to me with a polite face.

"I-I see. So it is Mr. Sawada Saito. Understood, sir."(Hugo)

'Hm? What's wrong with him?'

Then the guard proceed and keep asking questions about my profile with me answering all of the questions as necessary as possible and don't talk too much while still feeling confused from seeing the guard's attitude going to 180 and keep talking with me in a polite way.

"Here is your paper sir and I am sorry for the trouble. And also, I know this is impudent of me but I have to ask you to please make sure to not lose it especially when you are outside the city or you will end up going through this whole thing again with a fine for losing the paper sir."(Hugo)

"I understand. Thank you."

"Not at all sir, the gratitude is all mine."(Hugo)

The guard stood up from his chair and suddenly bow while saying all that. I suddenly flinched back a little from how creepy things turn.

(W-what the heck? Seriously, what is wrong with him?)

Suddenly, a thought flashed in my mind.

(Wait, could it be, he thinks that I'm a noble?)

It made me remember of the light novels I used to read. There are some story where the protagonists are mistaken as a noble because he has a last name since normally commoners don't have one.

(...., well, it's not like I need to correct his misunderstanding and in the first place, he's the one who mistook things in the first place.)

I decided to stay silent. As they said, silence is golden. Especially if that silence even gives you advantages, besides, considering he might be taking it out on me if I correct his own misunderstanding, the silence became even more tempting for me. So, stay golden it is.

(Anyway, with this all the procedures should have finished. I better keep this paper safely, I don't want to go through this whole thing again. Whether it's this world or the previous world, anything government related always takes too much time.)

After that, me and the guard Hugo get out of the room and walk back to the entrance in complete silence. Then, after we reached the entrance he said to me with a smile.

"Well then sir, welcome to Braux Town! Please enjoy your stay." (Hugo)
