The Songs Only I Hear

!!ANNOUNCEMENT!! - I will have slightly worse upload schedule during the summer, due to a lot of vacations my family and I have planed. I'm only human, I need my breaks too! Thank you for understanding, and to those who are following this series, please don't be alarmed when I miss a few upload dates. My approximate timing will probably slow, to every 4 - 7 days. I know. It's bad. This however, is the only way I can post, while spending time with my family. I will go back to regular uploads by the end of the summer. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Being blind is just how Lucus sees the world. Nothing seems to be wrong with this. After growing up in an orphanage, he takes his first steps into a real school when he enters high school. Making friends, and changing the world. They both seem to be equally hard. While he might not be able to see, the world feels more blind to him, than he is to them. Gonna be really honest here. I don't have a great upload schedule. I'm a bit too lazy for that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Uploads every 2 - 3 days. Sometimes I might do 2 at a time if I'm feeling productive. I wish I could say I'm going to make this the best book you'll ever read, but I'm still very amateur. Give me a chance, however, and I promise to surprise you. This is a tale of friendship, a bit of romance, overcoming life's obstacles, and working hard to surpass them. Join Lucus, Ben, and Allicia in their quest to find, or make, a life of their own. Thank you for reading, hope you enjoy. ; )

Just a Bone

"WHAT?!? You were in jail? What the heck were you thinking? What did you do? Four years too. It must have been bad." Lucus yelled, lurching forward. Ben caught him by the shirt and pulled him back, as if he hadn't come close to doing the same thing not a minute earlier.

"Calm down buddy." he whispered in Lucus's ear.

"Relax, it wasn't anything big. Just stole something." The boy rolled his eyes as if the recent question hadn't implied he had murdered someone or burned down their house.

"Must have been one pricey item you stole." Ben said. He grabbed Lucus's shirt once more as he jumped forward. "Like some huge diamond or something."

"Nope, not at all. 'Stole a dinosaur." This kid didn't miss a beat. He showed no guilt of any sort. Instead, he actually looked like he was suppressing a proud grin. "Some dude offered me a bunch of cash for it. It was really easy too. All I needed was, like, a glass cutter and a bag." the smile seeped out of the corners of the boy's mouth. He was lucky Lucus was blind, because he really would have been strangled if Lucus saw that small.

"So you went away for theft? Don't you have a bunch of money anyways? Why did you need the suspicious man's money?" Lucus still didn't talk. He was too focussed on being mad. So Ben said this for him.

"In the bank. Remember? It won't be mine 'till I turn eighteen. I didn't think I would be going away for so long though." he paused and sat on the bed he was shoving into the wall. He looked up thoughtfully as if trying to remember something. The boy grinned when he saw Ben's impatient face. "Apparently the museum and fossil belonged to some snobby rich corporation. Really came down on me. Man, they just kept going. Just when I thought my sentence couldn't get longer, they made up a bunch of random stuff that was only, like, half true. Before I knew it, I was being sent away for four years and lost a few thousand dollars from my inheritance. Man still paid me. Never recovered that bone I stole." He looked very proud now, as if this was an accomplishment, rather than something extremely worrying. "Think their name was, uuuuuuh, meh. I forgot. Too long ago." He picked something out of his finger nail and flicked it away. The boy hopped back up and began to move furniture around and put up some posters on his side of the room. Lucus grit his teeth rather loudly. "What?" The boy stopped and threw his hands up in the air dramatically.

"I can't walk around my own room anymore. Move it back." He growled this in a sort of gruff, angry, you'd better listen to me kind of way.

"What do you mean? Not to brag, but I made it supper easy to move around. Just look at my interior decorating skills!" he waved his arm around the room as if presenting it for the first time. "Besides, your old design sucked @%4." Ben grabbed onto Lucus's shirt again, just to be safe.

"That's just the problem. You seem smart. Smart enough to break into a museum at least. I'll let you figure it out." Lucus put up his hand and waved it up and down in front of his face, holding up his bangs so you could see his eyes. The boy's eyes widened in shock.

"Aww &*%$ man! My bad. But I wasn't joking. This place really sucked. I guess we can make it wheelchair accessible-" Lucus cut him off.

"I'M BLIND DUDE!" The boy doubled over laughing. He clutched his stomach and pounded his fist, making a big show of it.

"Sorry, I couldn't resist." He continued laughing until he couldn't breathe. Ben did too, but Lucus punched him in the ribs before he could continue. The boy suddenly got up and checked his watch. "Oh shoot, sorry. Gimme a sec." he tapped a few buttons on the screen of his pear watch. He flopped back into his bed. He sprawled out his arms and legs and let out a sigh.

"What's wrong?"

'Nah, not much. I just gotta go to some weird party. Apparently, my probation officer wants me to apologize to the guys who threw me in the slammer." he opened his eyes into a cute puppy dog face and mocked an innocent child. "Oh pweez! I'm so sowwy fow my pow behaviow." he got down on his knees and bowed a few times. "Pweez! Let me kiss yow shoes! I don't desewve yow mewcy!" He snapped back up and sat back down. "Please. Over my dead body. She'll have to drag me by the feet. Not that I would mind too much." he grinned devilishly. "I would personally rate her a seven. Too bad I only date nines or higher." Ben and Lucus recoiled in disgust.

"Oh wait, is that the party you're going to a gala on saturday?" Asked Lucus, who seemed to have regained his composure.

"Yep. Why?"

"Ben and I are going there too. I have a speech." Something in common. Cool.

"There's a speech? Darn. I thought it would just be some cool party I could mooch a bunch of food from and steal a couple wallets. At least you know the women there will be hot and rich." He shrugged nonchalantly and began kicking his legs. Ben and Lucus sat down on his bed. That side of the room was like another world. It was so bland compared to the boy's side, full of color and posters. It had no decoration, and not many possessions. For someone who just got out of jail, the boy had a plethora of knick knacks to choose from. He selected a purple yo-yo.

A ping came from the boy's pear watch and he checked it. "Oh shoot. I gotta go now. Officer mam' lady wants me at her office. It's been fun roomie and person two."

"Our names are Ben and Lucus."

"Cool, I'm Nick. I really gotta go now though. Last time I was late, she didn't buy me lunch." with that, gone.

I like nick
